Episode 600: We're Doing a Podcast, You Idiot!
« on: December 02, 2018, 09:03:29 AM »

Go ahead and tell me all my character flaws.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/49047/episode-600-were-doing-a-podcast-you-idiot

We finally made it, Episode 600 and it's a packed show. Recorded live, and spanning almost four hours, we had a long RetroActive on Punch-Out!!, read some email about us, and squeezed in three rounds of 20 Questions. We even found the time to wrap-up our 600th episode with a couple of guests.

On a personal note, it is an absolute pleasure to work with these guys for all these years and a delight to record the show with you, our audience. A huge thanks to everyone involved.

I don't know if I can express my gratitude properly, but I think Guillaume said it best: "It's a podcast, you idiot. You have to talk!"

Now in true online media form, I'm going to create an article full of people's tweets.

I'm deeply upset that Jon didn't talk about getting his PHD in Thuganomics.

Okay, WOW, I thought I needed a break from RFN because I was getting nihilistic in the comments. wtf was the ending to this show?!?

We love this show. We know it's a sometimes-train wreck but it's our sometimes-train wreck. I think we like to have fun with it.

If you asked me if I thought RFN was a good podcast, of course I do - or I would have resigned as host. However, I know it often finds itself one wobbly wheel from a mine cart disaster. I think our sense of humor suits well to self-deprecation, and lord knows we give ourselves plenty to deprecate.

On the whole, it's still overall good work, how many shows do you think can count The President of Ninjogi among their listeners?

Congratulations on reaching Episode 600! I started listening in the lead-up to Episode 400. I'm a long-distance runner, and I always save your show to keep me company on the longest runs.

Y'all put on an excellent podcast every week with great insight on your news & listener mail segments.

Keep up the great work!

Is the show different than the Metts dynasty?  Sure.  Is it worse?  Absolutely not.  Where the good Dr. presumably was very regimented in the structure of the show and keeping things moving, RFN has evolved under your tenure to be a bit more conversational, a healthy dose more self deprecating, and it's still a fun listen for it.  Each of your personalities show (whether they're ginned up or not), and I appreciate it.

Thanks to you and the rest of the podcast people for putting the time in.  I know you said it's fun, but I know it's also work, and listening to you guys chat about Nintendo each week is a great way to make going through my chores at home much more tolerable.

I almost had 439 as my first episode too. My first one was 441.
I love RFN, its impressive that it has been going on for so long. I (and I assume all regular listeners) appreciate your dedication to the show, James, Jon, Gui and Greg.

For years I would tell anyone who would listen that I play it up for the show.

Someone who I've known much of my life somewhat recently told me that I'm probably worse in real life. This was devastating.

I like how old episodes are time capsules. Hearing the good doctor in one of the first episodes talking about how Zelda will never go open world or listening to the Day the music died episodes is really fascinating.

It makes you wonder where Nintendo will be in episode 1200.

Im sure it was brought up at the last episode milestone, but The Day the Music Died is my favourite episode. Not only for the time capsule point, but also just how sad Jonny is.

Yeah, James. I fully love what Radio Free Nintendo has evolved into. I know I took a long break, but I can totally deal with your collective kayfabe depression because I know that this is an anchor in your lives and in the lives of so many other people.

I still think one of my best forum posts ever was the one I made on "The Day the Music Died".

I think I've said it before, but I started listening to RFN in about January or Febuary of 2011. A couple of episodes before James' dissertation on Ogre Battle 64. 227, I believe is the episode number. I've had you guys in my ears for a LONG time.

seriously, here's to episode 1200, which will probably be closer to actually being 1400! Remember, guys! part of the ship, part of the crew!

YEEAAHHHH!! *Gui adjusts levels*

As for going off the rails, that's usually when RFN is at it's best. It doesn't really matter if RFN is on or off the tracks. As long as the train keeps running, that's what matters. Run it on coal, diesel, banana peels, it doesn't matter. The show is kind of like the DeLorean in that way. "Where we're going, we don't need roads."

Syrenne talked about being a regular on the show. I like her as a guest, but I just can't see it. There's a difference between you guys who lob an occasional grenade to see what happens versus someone who purposely has an armful of grenades ready every episode. :p Though perhaps that's because she saves them up for her guest spots.

I guess it would be the same if Daan were a regular. But he only seems to do the crazy stuff for RFN. He's more reserved on other shows. I guess Gui just brings the animal out in him. ;)

- Punch-Out!! (Arcade)
- Super Punch-Out!! (Arcade)
- Punch-Out!! (NES)
- Super Punch-Out!! (SNES)
- Punch-Out!! (Wii)
- Super Punch-Out!! (Switch??)

Thanks for an awesome 600 episodes RFN crew!

I'm all in for this Punch Out Warriors but have one question: How many copies of the limited edition with the boxing robe are you looking at printing?

"I've got lots of physical games; it's just, I play them..."

Yeah... still own over 200 (physical) Wii games, and have only beaten about 20% of that collection.
The saving grace for my hording is no longer owning any current-gen console (except 3DS, which is on the edge).

Follow-up comment after finishing the podcast:

3:29 mark: "... no one's editing this, so it's fine..."
Fine for who, you heartless bastard?

Thanks for being such a great puppetmaster, pulling those socks behind the scenes.
(Socks? Strings?  No, pretty sure you're pulling sock puppets.  That would be a great Punch-Out!! character.)

I would listen to a James and Jon wrestling podcast.
TVman is dead. I killed him and took his posts.
