3DS Sound ap is limited to 100 items
« on: July 08, 2011, 10:39:05 PM »
My iPod is getting fixed so I have placed more songs and podcasts on my 3DS to listen to via the sound ap. Anyway I found an odd limitation. After you reach 100 songs it will stop displaying them. It does not matter if it is the correct format, it won't show it. Its sort of annoying because you can hold allot more than 100 songs on 2gig sd card.
It also takes about a minute to start loading the songs in the folder, so more songs equals more time to display them. My SD card still has plenty of space so it is a limitation on the 3DS hardware itself.

Just thought it was interesting to post

I just tested with mine and loaded up 110 songs on the SD card.  The 3DS Sound app took about 1 minute to "check the SD Card..." and sure enough only shows 100 songs.  That's pretty disappointing as it's actually a pretty cool music player.  I like the visualizers.

another thing is the music output is low. I think this is nintendo trying to not to have 'the sound is too loud' my kid is deaf lawsuits. My ipod with the same headphones can become really loud and drown out the rest of the world.

Well, I haven't noticed any output issues with headphones.  I plug in my standard ipod earbuds and set the volume to just above half and it's perfect for me.

The title to this thread is misleading. It is NOT limited to 100 items. In fact, if you read the manual, you'd know that it's 100 items per FOLDER. So if you split up your 500 songs into a few folders. Simple as that. Or you can organize them by album or artist and make it easier to go through them.

So...this is simply a case of something not doing their research, eh? Though it is unfortunate that the DSi can load music files 10 times faster though.

Meh, I tried it out when I first got my 3DS and haven't touched it since.

Yeah, the sound seems really low to me too. I have to crank it all the way up just to hear it, and it's still a lot lower than everything else, including the sound effects of the program. I hooked it up to my stereo speakers and had to turn up its volume to about 70% for a good listening volume, which would be floor-shaking normally.
