Big Brain Academy
« on: June 07, 2006, 09:49:12 AM »
I grabbed Big Brain Academy last night and it is pretty cool so far after only around an hour of usage.

It seems to have a lot more activities to "play" when compared to Brain Age. Instead of using brain age as a measurement, it uses brain weight. My initial test scored me at 900 grams.

I like the 3 different skill levels (easy, normal, hard) each with gold/silver/bronze medal awards and the multiple "tests" per each of the 5 areas gives a lot of variety. The countdown timer as you do each test makes it more video-gamey in that the faster you are, the farther you get, but correctness seems to be the heavier factor in calculations. Graphics and sound are average -- similar to Brain Age I guess.

Seems like another solid title for the DS.

So is it worth paying full price? I was thinking about it, but I have a lot of good games already, and it seems like the mini-games would get more and more repetitive with time.

Brain Age + Wario Ware: Touched! = Big Brain Academy. If you enjoyed either, you'll like BBA. For $20, you can't go wrong. The only thing the game lacks is tracking your grade from day to day like Brain Age does.

Played it for another hour last night... raised the brain weight from 900 to 1200+. Would've enjoyed some date tracking like Brain Age, but the medals awarded are an OK alternative.

If Brain Age was worth $20 Cdn - BBA was $25 Cdn BTW - then I'd have to say it is worth it.

I picked this up with my new DS and it's really fun. My wife even seems to like it which is weird because she's pretty anti-gaming.  Although BBA is different than most games.  I only did the "test" 2 times and got 630 and 660. Does that mean i'm retarded?  Or I probably just need more practice.  The teacher dude says that the average is 1400 which seems a little steep to me.  My IQ is above average and I would expect my brain weight to reflect that. Oh well, i'll just have to excersize my brain more!

Don't look too far into the brain weight ryancoke. It's essentially just a highscore as meaningless as any other. By calling it brain weight, it's just more tangible.

I hear you; Brain Age and Nintendogs are huge hits with the people in my family who generally don't touch games. Well, for my dad, the minigames in Super Mario 64 DS hooked him. He even liked Kirby: Canvas Curse! The DS as a whole is great this way..

18 days, that's a sweet avatar! I remember finding that dude in Z2 back in the day and being very confused.  I can't wait for that game on the VC. I managed to get my score up to 1150 which is like 500 points higher than my previous best.  I really tried for accuracy rather than speed and I only got 2 puzzles wrong in all 5 catagories.  I got up this morning to come to work and I found my DS on standby mode with brain age running. I guess my wife didn't stay up late to watch the gilmore girls afterall
