And of course, thank you to all of you that stuck with us despite all the problems.  We know it's been a tough summer, and we're just happy to have this resolved.  We've actually got some neat stuff planned that we've been holding off on until things get sorted out, so we hope it was worth the effort.

Thanks again!

Yay, it's working!  The last few weeks have been tough and frustrating.  Thanks for posting so we'd know this should be it.

I'm having exactly the same issues as before. Maybe it's just my computer setup?
It loads, then blank screen, then a moment later it throws up the page, but never "completes" it.

At "peak times" i had (not sure about now) to click a link repeatedly until it loads. I'll check later.

I'm glad anyway that it's sorted for the most part

Well, it's working much better now.  But the server still seems to be taking a long time to load pages for me.  I have to wait about 60 seconds for some pages at times.  But it's not that bad I suppose.  I can definately live with this, if it's the new status quo.  Hell, I have to wait 5 seconds between every screen in Xenosaga, and I could live with that.

Anyways, welcomd back PGC.  I have really missed you guys.

It's better now, but still not as good as it has been before- I still have to constantly reload a lot of pages. Still, though, it's a huge improvement- thanks guys.

Odd- I just upgraded to the latest version of Opera (7.2) and I'm barely having any of the problems I just talked about in my last post. I guess I can't complain.

Wait, scratch that- today the forums (and the main site) were worse than they've been in a very long time. I ccan barely get anywhere, let alone actually enjoy posting messages.

I've noticed that this site works absolutely perfectly... until I try to post anything.  It's like I break it.

Anyway it's working great right now but I'll have to give it the work test.  No matter what it seems to totally crawl whenever I'm at work.

This is so weird- this morning the forums were the worst they've ever been. It took me over an hour just to get into one thread. And then suddenly they start working faster than they ever have since the problems first started! I've never been so overjoyed to encounter the 1 minute posting limit in my life.

while the site/forums are working better then they have been for the last few days, they are still horribly slow. the pages still dont load ocassionaly either, forcing you to hit the refresh button like before.

edit: well, after browsing through the forums a bit, they are moving along pretty nicely now. i still have to hit the links 4-5 times to get the page to start loading, but once it does it loads quite quickly.

Even if he did, then he would simply replace the engine. It may cost more but it would work again.

I really like this site as I find it to be one of the best for news, but this problem has been going on for months now, there is no reason for it not to be fixed by now other than an unwillingness to spend the nessasary money. ISnt that the reason we have so many pop ups? to pay to fix probems and so on?

I agree with you to a point there thecubedcanuck. But some one by my reconking is using PGC for target pratice. But even then some kevlar would have did the job.

Yes I know this site is free, I know the ads pay for the web space etc, I know you guys work for free, but why for so long? I know Rick has came through for everybody before. What happened to the magic? Would you guys like to issue some sort of press release of your own into this forum?

I fear the worse...

As you guys already know, the problem is not as fixed as I thought it was when I posted this thread.  That magical hardware turned out to be not as magical as I was told it would be, although it does work reasonably well when it's installed.  The problem is that the hackers are figuring out ways to circumvent it, so pretty much every day we have to take the thing back out, upgrade it, and then reinstall it.  While it's out of the system, PGC is completely vulnerable and tends to be totally unresponsive.  After the reinstallation, it works great for several hours until the hackers trick it again.

I don't know whether this cycle will close up, i.e. we only have to upgrade once per week or something.  If it doesn't, and this business of the site being up and down, up and down, up and down continues, we are prepared to take drastic measures.  You are all very correct in saying that the ads and pop-ups are supposed to pay for good hosting and technical support, and it's not right for us to make you deal with all that junk unless we can provide an excellent site in good working condition.  Again, please be patient and know that we are working very hard on the issue.  We are extremely concerned about losing readers and advertisers because of this, but there is no way in hell that I'm going to let PGC die to some hacker punk kid.

why on gods green earth would someone be messing with PGC for this long already? This just doesnt seen realistic to me, I honestly find this hard to believe.
Has the law been called in to deal with it as it would clearly be considered criminal conduct by now?
Has the "HACKER" been indentified?
Why is he/she doing this?

It all seems a little odd to me.

How this pertains to PGC, I don't know.  But odd is still good.

i agree cubedcanuck, it doesn't seem right that PGC would be under fire from some peonic h4x00r(s) for this long, they must REALLY have a great hate for nintendo/pgc that and an assload of time on their hands.

How about going for a Linux server next time? From what I got of Netcraft you're using a Microsoft server. If you change the server's OS the attackers would have to rewrite their scripts (or, more likely, can't attack you anymore).
