What is your dream?
« on: March 05, 2008, 05:52:49 PM »
After reading through the "what do you do for a living" thread, I got to wondering, what is your greatest ambition? your dream?

And not just that, do you think you have what it takes to reach that goal? Have you already accepted defeat, or have you accomplished what you wanted and now are living with great piece of mind?

I watch allot of One Piece so I ask this question to allot of my friends.

I have a lot of dreams but one I truly like is to make a Gaming Park.  It would be fully enclosed while feasible.  There be a general arena area that would be good for tournaments of all the gaming persuasions.  There be different zones throughout for the different game rankings.  The inside be a large Garden with trees, butterflies, and just nature in general without dealing with natures randomness.  I have vending machines that would sell the different games and games paraphaniala(sp?).  There be tables throughout to play at; some hidden needing found.  I probably have seperated out a Large Museum of Gaming.  It be really cool.

I also would like to make a sample themepark where you could go in and sample new products and the worlds cuisine.  Plus non-nauseating rides.

If this thread gets big I'll past more.

I thought the American dream was to have someone do wrong to you and then sue them.

NWR official webcomic confirmed

Shhh, don't spoil it for everybody!  Hmm... now that you mention it, I'm sure the goings about on the forum are a gold-mine of comedy.  However I imagine most comics would end with Pro666 popping into the final panel and shouting a non-sequiter.  ;)

DAaaMan, I'm mostly in need of an artist.  ANY artist (As I cannot draw worth a ****.), I already have the website and all that, it is just sadly lacking any content.  However, my web designer decided that he wanted to drop off the face of the interwebs, so I am currently denied from expanding on the website with new pages as I have no idea how do anything regarding web-design.  Any help is always appreciated, so shoot me an e-mail if you have some spare time on your hands.

EDIT:  I just realized I am basically the equivalent of a general manager at a failing small business who does not actually have the skills necessary to run the place.  I'm going to go cry into a web-corner now.

My dream is basic.  It has nothing to do with games and stuff.

I'd love a wife who loves me and tolerates me.  And to have kids that I can tolerate.

I'd love to finally get this novel published.

im on the same page(s) as Insanolord, Deguello, and Dasmos

Realistically i want a stabile job making decent income to get by without worrying about finances and have enough free time to enjoy all my hobies, one of which is creating music. I'd also like to share my time with someoen special whom I could spend all my time with. Basically, I don't want to be with someone and worry if they're "the one" ya know?

My BIG dream is to be a proffesional, touring, musician so i can see the world while having fun with my music.

As for the other part of the question: Although I'm usually pretty confident with my creative skills when it comes to music, lately life has just beaten me into a depression that i can't seem to get out of. It's not a severe depression or anything, but for the past few years any time i pick up my guitar and try to play something new, something to distract me from everything around me, I hit a wall and don't like what's coming out. I'll try to play all the songs I first learned back when i was 16 to try to get back into that state of mind when i was a kid, and i just can't. Now I just look at my guitar, wanting to play.

I think the other thing that gets me down about playing music is i've been in a few bands already and none of them really worked. No one's ever on the same page when it came to what to play and it pissed me off. Sometimes I think I'd be better off creating music on my own but I don't have/cant afford the proper equipment for that nor do I have the space for it in my current living situation. Besides, I don't want to be that person. I don't want to look for musicians to play MY tunes, I want to collaberate with a band. I want the music to come from each and every member, not just one person.

I still have hope that one day i'll be able to create again, even if its just for myself.

DOODY! sorry that post felt too serious

Mostly I just want the freedom to do whatever I want.  I'd like to be financially secure enough to, at any moment, walk away from my job with no worries at all.  I should really start working on that.

I'd like to write a novel or two, too, but I don't have the kind of life experiences that I'd need to write The Great American Novel.  I wouldn't mind writing a pulp science fiction or fantasy adventure, though.

And, probably like most people here, I'd like to make games.  I've been kicking around ideas for a DS RTS game for a while, but I've never attempted either homebrew development or game programming before and don't even know where to start.

I'd just generally like to do something creative, I guess, but all such dreams are reliant on that first one, and I'm nowhere near achieving it.

Don't you already have this? I mean you said you have a girlfriend, one who you would think of giving your video games to if you died. That has got to be someone special, correct? hehe.

As for me, my dream is to become a famous actress. I have been interested in this field since I was about five. I have taken it up in school(and still do), been in acting classes all my life, and have played a couple of small parts here and there. Hmmm very interesting. So far EasyCure is the only one who has answered the other half of the question. What about the rest of you? Do you think you can achieve your goal? or are you willing to settle for less?

You know EasyCure, maybe its just a matter of becoming inspired to gain that mind set you used to have. On any given day your big break could be right around the corner. You never know who you'll meet, and befor you know it, you could have an amazing crew of musicians that take the music scene by storm. Or not, depends on you.

Partybear just get to it! Write that novel! Maybe you don't have enough life experiences, but maybe you can appeal to the people just like you! Also im sure video games have warped your mind enough that you could make a killer fantasy or adventure story. But you won't know unless you just do it right?

I was taught that "If you always do what you did, you'll always get what you got." So unless any of us are actively consistantly trying to realize these dreams, its not gonna just fall into our laps. Well there always is the possibilty but thats the boring easy way out.

To answer the second part of the question: I'm sure I could do it. After all, what's it take to publish a book nowadays thanks to personal computers and the Internet? Making a living doing that is another question though. I wouldn't mind the steady pay working for DC or Marvel would bring in, but its very difficult to be yourself at those places. There are expectations of a particular look on their books and only if you work hard as an independent to develop a style that is iconic do you really get to keep your independence (Ted McKeever is a great example).

I may be over reacting to stories I've heard too. My style isn't too far off from the norm anyway. But I have been published by a small Independent Publisher. My book was called 'Alien Force' by Illusion Studios out of Fort Wayne, IN. That was almost 10 years ago now. And out of high school I was accepted to attend the Joe Kubert School of Art in New Jersey, but I couldn't afford the $12,000 a year.

I haven't accepted it as a defeat. Just a 'on the back burner' until I can dedicate some time and have a project that is worth the effort.

You're right I do have someone, and they're very special to me but with the way my life is now, I just sort of doubt myself and start to think it won't work out because of me. I love her to death but I don't think I could ever be what she deserves. Its complicated and I won't get into it in detail.

As for your dream its just picking on you at this point, I'm mean; i know :( its very cliche for a "girl"

lol

caterkiller, thanks for the kind words. I know i need some sort of inspiration but what used to inspire me back when i was 16 was my dream of making great music and "hitting it big" so to speak. Now i'm older and just see it as less likely to really happen. I'm not giving up on music, or the dream for that matter, im just being more realistic about it i suppose. Even if it happened tomorrow; i get a huge record deal or whatever and embark on a tour.. i dont know if that would make me happy. I know I said i'd love to see the world but I'd really much rather see it on my own time. Touring life seems hard, plus i get sick really easy lol Why would i want that? Zero Confidence over here HA!

I guess mind would be to become a writer.  I enjoyed writing a lot when I was younger.  As I got older I stopped writing as much and when I reached college never took classes for it, at the time it did not seem like a feasible career.  But being a teacher and working ridiculously long hours was not in the cards either and look at me now.  A smaller dream would be to see the entire world.  I love to travel but who the hell has the time and the money to do it?

Mace, there are ways to go about and do it. I don't have a specific answer at the moment, but think out side the box.

Though not my dream, I to want to go out and see the world. Though the way I get to do it is by being hired as a stunt guy or actor for some commercial, TV show or lame independent low budget movie. That way I still get to go around and see all kinds of things without paying for it. It's just that needs to happen more often for me.

Try to find ways where people would pay for you to go there, for what ever reason. That's my best solution. Maybe you will become some type of National Geographic journalist, I da know, but hey it could happen. Imagine they send you out on an assignment to the earths core or something? wouldn't that be great!?

1. To work in the gaming industry, especially from a managers position
2. On the side I want to be a published author
3. I want to see Egypt, Israel, Australia, and Greece! Maybe even see the rain forests

How to achieve my dream?  You tell me!  I think first I have to get in touch with a literary agent and there's like... a million of them.  And I question as to whether I need one and further wonder why there is this interim step involved in the publishing process.

I have three dreams.

1. Marry a woman I love who loves me and have a family.  This is not a particularly ambitious dream but there's a lot of luck involved in it which makes it more of a dream than a specific goal.  While you can work towards a career a relationship has a lot of flukey stuff beyond anyone's control.  I do okay on the dating scene so I'll just keep at it and see where things go.

2. Record some sort of professional album and have it released publicly.  I don't care if I'm never rich or famous.  Just having some sort of work of music I can point to and say "I did that" is good enough.  Songwriting is one of the few things I do consider myself to be talented at and have a lot of confidence in.  I record songs with my friends every once in a while but I'll admit I've never given things a full shot.  I think it's because of the risk.  With my job I don't really have time to commit to a music career.  But I'm quite responsible with money.  To risk being a starving artist for a career that is insanely hard to get regardless of talent is something that is very not me.  I think I'd do better if I had a solid band leader to handle the business side of things.  I like writing songs but don't like being the leader so much.

3. Make a full length film.  I've made half hour films with my friends and brothers and they're a blast.  And these are just filmed in my backyard but they're good and I'm proud of them.  I want to make a 90 minute film and I've been working on-and-off on a script for about a year.  I'd like to film it and enter it in some sort of indy film festival.  The film's a comedy and it's a mockumentary so that if the quality of the footage isn't all that great it can be passed off as a stylistic choice.  Think a Blair Witch Project style applied to a comedy.

Right now my biggest dream is to find a job so I can help my family out and finance my future endeavors. Its been so hard to find one that its almost like an impossible dream for me :( .

My other dream is to publish my stories. I have many of them in the works, once that is a collection of short stories. But again, I need to save up before I can get anywhere.

Are they stories about cute yellow monkies?

As quirky as I tend to be, my dream is fairly straight-forward and average...Just to get through medical school without having a nervous breakdown, raise a family, have a successful career that gives me plenty of family and hobby time (and like pap, I'd especially like to eventually write these stories I've had churning around in my head for a while), make sure my kids grow up right, etc...I sure hope I can achieve this, as average as it is! ='D

Some of my dreams/goals:

Help bring about world peace.

Get to a point where all of my clothing is hand-made by me.

Become a brickmason.

Become a neuroscientist.

Have 100 children.

Learn to shave with a straight-razor.

Fall in love.

Gain an understanding of the theory of relativity.

Become a magician.

Raise a family.

Create some good art.

Get back to a healthy weight.

Become a truck driver.

Become a caver.

Become an urban explorer.

Find a good religion.

Write a book or two.

Do I think I have what it takes to accomplish the above things? Yes.

i I'd also like to share my time with someoen special whom I could spend all my time with. Basically, I don't want to be with someone and worry if they're "the one" ya know?

Don't you already have this? I mean you said you have a girlfriend, one who you would think of giving your video games to if you died. That has got to be someone special, correct? hehe.

As for me, my dream is to become a famous actress. I have been interested in this field since I was about five. I have taken it up in school(and still do), been in acting classes all my life, and have played a couple of small parts here and there. So yes hopefully someday you will hear my name on "the big screen". =]

Haha. Now I'm intrigued. You cannot start a story and then stop in the middle(not that it was a story exactly). Besides I love all of those drama filled stories about relationships and whatever else. Why don't you think  you can be what she deserves? I'm sure she is with you because she loves you or is at least interested in you. What else matters? Unless of course she is one of those real b*tchy girls who tries to change you even though she tells you that she loves you for you. If that is the situation, get out fast! hehe. If not, then what's wrong? I'm usually great at helping people with their problems(also studied psychology), and I'm addicted to helping strangers. I know im odd, I can't help it. Of course you weren't asking for help or anything, hehe, so at least tell me the rest of your "story". Sigh I need a life. OK I'm done.

Oh and as for my dreams being cliche, for a "girl". I don't care. HA

she's not the b*tchy type, you're right I wasn't asking for any help, and you sure do need a life ;-)

It's friday and im looking towards the weekend, and all this talk about dreams and goals for the future made me think to myself "Screw the realistic dreams!" So now, I'm going to list off some of my new dreams i hope to achieve (but never will.. not without a lot of drugs anyway)

1. Find the triforce and make the next few dreams possible (unlimited wishes FTW)

2. get a summer home in Santa Destroy and pwn hordes of henchman

3. Help Bowser kidnap the princess (peach, not the forum user) then fight along side mario to win her back, up until the end where i reveal to him it was all a game!

4. play strip poker with Samus Aran and win

5. start a rock band with Dixie Kong on lead guitar

6. Visit Spain and travel to El Pueblo de los Illuminados... and get some target practice in

7. Defeat the 8 robot masters

8. Join the StarFox team (no Krystal jokes, please)

9. Run a succesful farm I inherit and marry one of the locals

10. Retire from the farming life and move to the desert, wandering it as a Dungeon man (letting tourist take a look at my collection of junk free of charge of course)

I wanted to start a new thread about this but i'd rather not, too lazy

Along the same lines, I'd like to travel back in time to feudal Japan and crush many young soldiers with a giant ball.

I'd also like a Pichu to keep as a pet.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I have had three dreams in my life that I would like to see come true.

1. Star a recording studio and publish my own music

2. Meet the perfect woman.

3. Have my own video game store.

I already did 1 and 2 and am working on 3. Except I lost the girl... so I am back to working on that also.
