The best anti-zombie weapon?
« on: August 05, 2007, 01:28:56 PM »
Oh noes! There's a zombie in your house! What should you do?

Sadly, a lot of people have seen so many zombie movies the first thing they'd do is go to their shed/garage and get out the chainsaw. Yes it looks cool, but is it really the best zombie-hunting weapon? Think about it. It's heavy, runs on gas and makes a lot of noise. Plus the signature mess might be a curse. After all, if infections spread through the blood, the splatter might be your undoing if you have a single cut on you.

The ace card of any zombie-hunter, then, is the shotgun. Remember, you're trying to remove the head or destroy the brain, and a shotgun is the best for that. Just aim at the head and shoot. Unlike what some video games make you think, the spread on shotguns (unless they have seriously short barrels) isn't that huge. It's perfectly acceptable to use it at medium range.

Anyone have any opinions? A car might be a better weapon. It can be used to take out a large number at once and to provide transport and shelter.

Flame-torch.

I'm talking about the onces that explode with fiery fury. The type that can bust through windows and not back enemies.

Then again, you can't really be cautious when using one of those. It'd be good if you had to go outside and protect your vehicle/self. Other than that though, good luck using it discretely in whatever base you've set-up for yourself.

A shotgun is decent, but it'd definitely have to be an automatic shotgun. Still, I'd much rather have an assault rifle/ak-47.

True, and a Molotov Cocktail would be a cheap alternative that's just as effective.

I chose a shotgun as ammunition for AK-47s and other assault rifles can be hard to come by, where as shotgun shells are much easier to find. Still, a burst of full-auto will down anything in your path and would be much more effective then a double-barreled or pump shotgun when the crap hits the fan.

Unless the flame ignites the fuel faster then it's coming out. The second it hits the tank - BOOM!

Just use short, controlled bursts and you should be fine. But I'd recommend using the gas in a car instead.

Who's to say you can't choose an AK-47, and then pick-up a shotgun later and use both? Hell, I'd be strapped to the teeth with guns and ammunition, especially if I came across a gun store. I would carry as much as I could and still run decently fast (since zombies generally don't run).

Also finding shotgun shells are much easier to find later, true, but so should finding a shotgun.

Good point. Don't know why I forgot someone can carry more then one weapon... The shotgun would be best for taking out the odd zombie here or there, the rifle for when you really need to put bullets in the air.

Yes, but most civilians don't have access to that much incendiary substances.

I kinda think a MOAB bomb would be more suited to wiping everything out, or even better: A neutron bomb. It would kill all life (and un-life) in the area while not totally obliterating the city. Of course, it's still a nuke and fallout is a problem.

Nuke the site from orbit. It is the only way to be sure.

A shotgun would be nice, but the ammo is relatively bulky. The AK is good, but only if loaded with hollow point rounds, else the shot will just fly right through.

I rather have a 9MM with a full auto function, but would settle for a Glock with an extended clip. Plenty of ammo can be carried and can be found on any dead cops. I would use the 9MM as my primary unless something big came along. I would also like to get my hands on a functional katana or a machete.

First off, Shotgun good because it will completely severe the head from the body with a shot.  Any other style of gun will pretty much just riddle them with holes.  Which would be useless.
Second, flamethrowers are good because after you fully incinerate something even if it somehow survives the chances of it being a threat to you is minimal.
Third, I truly believe that if it gets to the point that they are only an arm length away that a sword type weapon would be your best bet.  They are already decomposing flesh.  Meaning they be easier to liberate limbs and heads from.

Just my take.

In No One Lives Forever, there's a spear gun that can do that.  In the big underwater level, I swam around a corner to face a long, dark corridor.  The only way I knew an enemy was lurking down the corridor was the rising of the telltale bubbles from his SCUBA gear.  I aimed just below the bubbles, fired, and was rewarded with a gurgling scream.  When I got to the end of the corridor, I saw that I had pinned him to the wall through the nuts.

a cast iron pole with a spike on the end

or the samurai weapon set

crossbow for long distance
spear for mid distance
sword for closer range
knife if you absolutely need it

add riffle for super log distance

high calibur weapons if you just want to rip them in half
of course your going to have to run around and kill the brains with the spike

if you cant find a long cst iron spike there re two suggestions.....fire poker, broom or mop with a knife on the end....or fire poker on the end.....

there are no perfect wepons for killing zombies, different weapons have different applications and uses depending on the situations

well blacknmild that really depends on which source of zombie informtion your going from

on the Romero Series the dead are either actual walking corpses for which the cause is neither explined, or those tht were bitten or attacked by zombie which then become zombies. No one kn ows the source, but the back of the cover reads a radioactive sattelite, but the remake sys nothing of the sort

in the return of the living dead series there is a chemical called Trioxin which reanimtes corpses and can turn the living into zombies withtoo much exposure, bites from Trioxin Zombies also cause Zombie-ism

in Resident Evil there are a number of biological agents tht cause Zombies, the T-Virus, the G-Virus, those leaches, Los Plagas which is a Psuedo-Zombieness

in Night of the Comet it was cused by the dust left by the Comet

In Night of the Creeps, Slither, and the Faculty it is caused by some Biological agent from outerspace

in the Zombie Survival Guide bd World War Z(im assuming i havent red world war z yet) its caused by a Virus called Solenum

in 28 days later it is caused by a virus called Rage

in the Walking Dead comic and graphic novel series(great read) the cause is unknown, however Regrdless how you die you will become a Zombie, that is unless brain function has been terminated. There is a chapter where  character is bitten but his leg is removed to see if it willprevent the turn, however this is inconclusive because he died of bloodloss.

In the Re-animator seires Herbert Walker's reanimtion serum recreates Zombies

In Evil dead 1, 2 and Army of Darkness they are caused by the side of Evil

In Shaun of the Dead they pretty much follow Romero rules, once again they aren't explined, various jokes and references to different Zombie media
including Rage infected monkeys

In Eternl Darkness they are the minions of Cosmic dieties

there are other movies where Zombies are caused by any sort of magic, necromancy, Voodoo

thats all i can think of for now

also, there is a difference between undead and zombies, but this line can be hazy and is crossed several times

in most media, your screwed if your bitten, but like any infection it might be curable through thurough sanitation or amputation, in 28 weeks later your defintely screwed unless you have genetic immunity.

the difference between undead and zombies

zombies are undead, but not all undead are zombies

vampires are undead
so are ghouls, ghouls however have reason
frankenstein is technically undead
revenants are undead

zombies are either undead or infected
either way, their vicious, they usually are mindless, and when someone is killed they become one of them, they also know the difference between them and us.

also, movies where zombies talk are just plain stupid

the borg from star trek draws some paralells to zombies
