Mafia V: Day Two
« on: June 01, 2006, 03:46:19 AM »
The gathering of the elected representatives produced the name Uncle Bob.

Uncle Bob, one of the Citizens who pioneered the new laws, understood the the gravity of his sacrifice.

"Very well," he said.  He stood and was escorted out of the meeting room with two security guards.  The fatal shot was fired in the antechamber and each of the voters felt the implications.  Uncle Bob was picked simply at random, but tonight the plan would truly enter into effect.

The young man remembered this as he lay in his bed trying to fall asleep.  He'd been resorting to medicinal help.  The old farmer had provided him tea, alcohol, pain killers.  Whatever it took to allow the man a restful night.  Still, the prospect of falling asleep was simply too frightening.  As vivid now as his memories were, the young mens nightmares were a terrifying manifestation that he simply could not escape.

He had few good memories of the time.  But there was the one day everyone had a moment of reprieve.  It was the day that Garnee, aka KURT was found dead.  He'd apparently been testing a new motion sensing weapons technology that he'd reverse engineered from the Confederation plant when one of the Confederation operatives snuck behind him and slit his throat.

There was always the hope, that they could kill each other off. . .

May the votes begin

Getting a post in right now because i'm about to go to sleep and might not be online again in time for the day closing.

I want to vote Stabby cause he looks suspicious, and he started the Unclebob bandwagon without a care in the world, but I think that every game and he always turns out innocent. :P

Remember, Stabby does suspicious things every game--thus far it's always just been that he doesn't care.  (Anyone remember the first game where he used to walk around the thread with a shotgun?) Also, I better take this opportunity to stress that I'm not defending Stabby--I have no idea if he's mafia or not.  So don't think we're in cahoots.

well, if anyone could tell me how to vote better on day 1 please let me know, but from what i can tell its all random.
For the first couple of days it pretty much is random.  (This is why I typically don't vote for the first couple days.)  You don't have much to go by, so you're left reading too far into people's posts and guessing at random.

After a couple days have passed, it gets easier to spot who's mafia.  If you notice patterns of people voting the same way then either (a) they're townies who had a MSN conversation and decided there who they thought was mafia or (b) they're mafia and are trying to vote out a townie (or a member of the other mafia).  It's even easier once a member of one of the mobs is dead.  Unfortunately for us, Garnee died before he voted, so his death isn't really helpful to us in finding out who else is siding with him.  However, if he had voted a couple times before he died, you could look back and see who voted with him.  It's not a perfect system, but it will generally at least give you a vague idea of who has a better chance of being mafia than someone else.

Depending on how much time you're willing to put into the game, you might benefit from going through old mafia threads and comparing how people post from one game to the next.  If in Mafia II someone was a townie and posted a lot and in Mafia III they were mafia and didn't post very much, it could give you insight to their role this game based on their current posting habits.  Obviously, this method isn't fool-proof because it could just be that the person was busy with outside activities during the second game or just wasn't as interested that time around.

When in doubt, take cues from the more experienced players (BlackNMild, Dasmos, IceCold, KnowsNothing, MysticGohan, Pale, ShyGuy, Stabby, SUPER, TVMan, TYP), keeping in mind that at least some of them are going to be mafia.

EDIT:  Hey Pryo, question: If the Emissary investigates a mafia leader, does he come up as a regular townie like in previous games or does he appear as mafia?

Don't forget that Stabby was mafia in the first game.

But anyway, something will come up eventually, this thing is gonna get blown wiide open.

Also, I've learned from experience that neither Vudu nor BnM can be trusted.

MysticGohan either.  I wouldn't trust him as far as I can throw him.  Same goes for Wandering (who missed sign-ups).

But then again, isn't that the point of this game?  Anyone who's mafia is clearly going to lie about it and do everything they can to get the townies to vote themselves off.  So it's not like you pinpoint any of this crap on me.  I'm sure you'd lie if you were mafia.  Wait, are you mafia?  Are you lying right now?

I just remembered about the Defenders of the Keep--any three people who are voting together could also possibly be part of the Defendors of the Keep (Emissary & Deputy, also), so this system doesn't even really work very well in this game--just because certain people always vote together doesn't mean they're mafia.  This is going to be harder than I had originally thought.

Crikey, these votes are all over the place.

ViewtifulGamer seems to be protecting ShyGuy, by kicking off another bandwagon on Stevey after ShyGuy had 3 votes. Voting for ViewtifulGamer would be a waste since he has no votes (which makes me question the purpose of the other people who voted for someone out of the blue, trying to avoid mafia patterns?) so i'll vote ShyGuy.

EDIT: Actually, reading ShyGuys posts he seems innocent, which would destroy that theory and clear VG as well, but I honestly have no-one better to vote for so i'll keep this for now.

I guess that's good.. but I thought he was one of the mafias, only since ViewtifulGamer and Mystic both voted with him for no reason at all other than to try and switch the bandwagon to someone else.

May I ask what reasons you guys had for voting stevey now, if any? I honestly don't know who to vote for now. I just have Vudu on my list because he voted for me.

Hey hey hey! I've stated my reasons :P last time stevey got an innocent killed and was protecting a mafia member, who knows what foul role he's been laid with this time.

How's that?

Damn, I was busy today and I missed - I probably won't be home tomorrow as well, so can you do me a favour Pryo? Can I vote now for tomorrow? Here's my reasoning..

Excerpts from Mafia: Day 1

Crash: For lack of any knowledge what so ever

Vote Zach

Zach: grr... D@mn the lateness of my name alphabetically. Vote Crash for being uninformed and simply voting for the last person on the list.

Crash: haha zach you got me  nothing personal... just easy to copy and paste the last name
(...)
well, if anyone could tell me how to vote better on day 1 please let me know, but from what i can tell its all random.
-----

Suspicious, eh? It is my belief that Crash feigned naivete, and is actually part of the mafia with Zach. Using the guise of an innocent first-time player, they probably decided that he should vote for Zach, saying that his reason was that Zach was the last on the list alphabetically. The intent would be to make it seem like they are not related, and also paint a picture of Crash being an innocent bystander. Note the quote "for lack of any knowledge whatsoever"..

But what really makes me believe in this is Zach's response. How on earth would you be able to guess that someone voted for you since your name was last on the alphabetical list? And he made it seem like it was a fact that Crash was uninformed, saying, "Vote Crash for being uninformed and simply voting for the last person on the list." How would he know that Crash did that, and be able to say it like it was the definitive truth? Unless Crash had explicitly stated that he voted for Zach because [Zach] was the last name on the list, I would never have inferred what Zach did. That wouldn't have even crossed my mind if I were Zach.

Crash responded by saying that Zach got him, and it was easy to copy/paste the last name. But why would you copy the last name, and not the first?

This is by no means damning evidence, but by reading between the lines you will be able to infer what I did. There are just too many plotholes, and it seems forced. So..

VOTE CRASH!

Wow, that is very far fetched.  Thanks for the LOL though.

Now this is what happened, I saw Crash vote for me "For lack of any knowledge what so ever," and I tried to figure out why he voted for me over anyone else, and I saw two possible reasons.

1) He voted completely randomly, so it was just a coincidence (sp?)
2) The only reason I stand out over anyone else is because I am the last one on the list, so he picked me for that reason.

I assumed number 2, it was just a guess, but it was an informed guess, and I turned out to be right.

Interesting theory though, but I can assure you that there is no conspiracy here.  I would imagine that if you dont believe me, you will vote for me after you vote for crash.

You IceCold seem awfully desparate to place blame without any good proof (I wonder why?) so once the day 3 thread starts, I plan to vote for you, unless you killed me during the night.

Don't forget this thread is still for yesterday everyone.  Pryo hasn't started day 3 yet.  I don't want any voting confusion.

No, I claimed IceCold's suggestion is far fetched.  You suggested that Crash is the CE, and for all I know, that could be true.
