Ahh, eternal darkness..  I ran a game store a few years back, they never could sell that game, I got in, and had to pull in every copy from all the other stores.. sold out ever since.   love that game..   play it at Halloween i do, and Killer Inst. on new years eve too..    somehow they ended up being holiday playing titles for me.. odd.. ohz well.   May the conduit have legs..   long enough to sell that engine!

Its funny, I keep seeing reviews where the games are being compared to coutnerparts on other systems.   The Conduit (see on topic) is no stranger to this either.  Every review I see, I have always seen comparisons to other systems.  It is a shame too, but at least we all know the real dirt is in the experience and not the reviews, but still it would be nice to see a review given on the games merits rather than saying something like "theres not much new here if you have played (insert game here and system) a game in your life"   and so on .. ohz wellz.

so tell, those of you who get to play this at the moment...   what are the multiplayer character selects like?

Bill is both an actor and an artist.   He has never ever wanted to do sequels as they tend to tarnish the original works.  Most often than not, its the other actors talking about his opinion on the matter, rarely himself.   How many sequels does he have in his career where he appeared twice?  Ghostbusters and Garfield.. and those two are linked!   besides that, not a single one.

I for one admire that, its his choice and he has stuck by it, except for the Ghostbusters, where everyone are friends.   http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000195/  looks like he is signed on for 3 too.

And if you didnt know, Garfields link is this, When the Real Ghostbusters cartoon came on the air (best ever by the way, love the werewolf / vampire war) The garfield Voice Actor played Peter, then, when Garfield CG came out, Bill did Garfields voice.   Its kind of a circle.   But related none the less!

Length stopped being an issue with me once Conkers Bad Fur Day set the bar.  Back then, I used to think 15 hour romps were short.. Then conquer came along and smashed it in half..   Since then, we have seen quite a bit more quality in a shorter hour experience.   I'm guessing that the game will hit right in that 7 hour time frame.    (keep in mind im a searcher)

Hey, for the one on the ps3, how is multiplayer handled?  is it split screen or do you have to go online?

Well, in the wii version, you capture quite a few ghost, and destroy ones too.   But nothing that I would say dominate the scene, there are at least 3 stages of ghostly happenings..

1) Trap Ghost (ones that you wrangle and enough of them too, most likely becuase its the wii mote style game?)
2) spawning mounds (the ones you destroy, marshmellow dogs on fire, book formed ghost, paper formed ghost) not too much, but enough to keep you busy while you go down the hallways.
3) final confrontation ghost

to me it seems rather balanced and there are plenty of ghost fights, I think while chasing slimer I ran into at least 5 other seperate ghost to deal with (if i choose to).  and of course his mission evolved to the ghost chef who also came with a a lot of between ghost caputres too.

Perhaps thats the benefit from a seperate build maker, its designed for the wiimote interface and as such, we get more wrangling to do.

Nintendo Gaming / Ghostbuster Wii Edition
« on: June 16, 2009, 11:43:26 AM »
I've had my hands on the game now for a few days..  and I would like to give everyone my opinion on what I have witnessed so far.

This is by far the best movie game I have played to date.   Keep in mind I am not referring to a game based on a movie, no.. not that, instead I am talking about how the game was made.  From the ground up you are drenched in the Ghostbusters lore and mechanics.  With the original writers scripting this game, the presentation comes across full and bountiful.   This really does have a great flow of a movie feel in the game.  The story unfolds as the characters traits and witticisms bring the entire experience to life.   Using Hollywood proven methods, Ghostbusters comes out feeling original, captivating a fun experience.

One of the biggest things I noticed was the cinematic camera that is present throughout all the cut scenes and throughout the game.  This lends to a very well told story and feel.   I enjoy the characteristic look of the characters and it helps identify into this world.  The design I believe was a good choice and overall it works very well.   Of course, the one thing that caught me off guard was the camera system until I left the GB HQ.

While in the ghost house for the first time, the controls are a bit cramped and its a little disorienting at first, but once you strut your packs in the hotel environment  (the first mission) you really will come into control.  See, the camera is mapped to the on screen reticule and so strafing is mapped to the nun-chuk.  For ghostbusting, this ends up being the preferred method as when you need to catch a ghost, you have the controls needed to navigate the fight.

The fights, now that's something that is really fun with the wii-mote (unless you have nunchuk connection issues like I have, but that's another Nintendo story) and nunchuk.   When battling a ghost, first you just have to really sweep them until they are weak enough. Once weakened though, the beam will automatically change into a capture beam, in this state you wrangle the ghost by slamming them about the environment (think force unleashed boss battles) and then tossing out a trap via the nunchuk and z button.  After a good run through the hotel, I was becoming an expert at this, wrangle, slam, dazed state sliding capture all in nice motions (oh and the quotes from the GB team to you seem to change with your performance, a little extra kudos.)

While I haven't fought a "boss" character yet, I am working through the level fending off marshmallow anger puppies and big hands, but once again, the story is drenched throughout the game, so while running around blasting and wrangling, those classic moments of character interaction both with NPc's and team mates makes the experience meld rather well.

Speaking of your team, you also have the option to bring a friend with you (I have played to the same point with both single and multiplayer) to take on all the badness.   Multiplayer may in fact have different ghost and patterns set up as going in multiplayer first (harder experience) to single player second, and the events were definitely different.  With multiplayer, the wrangling can be split into who ever has the beams on the ghost, so stay alert!  or branch off in a differnt direction (equally fun) and blast other ghost by yourself.

All in all, here it is on the line for you.

Ghostbusters visual quality is great.
Sound is dead on, with all the foley and voice tracks.
Control, shaky at first, but comes into its own as play progresses.
$40.00 dollars at gamestop, right on!

If your a ghostbusters fan, check it out, its definitely worth it.  If you are looking for a good adventure and good story with multiplayer, once again check it out.   It's not to often when the Wii gets solid 3rd party games, and this one delivers.

The only irk I have on this game, is the beginning of Peters voice acting, at first it sounds like a 3rd rate i dont care I will read my lines, but after seeing the story unfold, the character needs to be "woken up" by interation with the ladies and story.  as it grows so does he.  So if its a choice, good job, if its I dont care yet until later.. well it fades away at least in the hotel.

Thanks for reading!  Hope this helps.

Jim

Wii's E3 life pretty much parallels GameCube's E3 life.  So at this time in GameCube's E3 life, both Reggie and Zelda debuted (2004).  2008's E3 was a downer, just as 2003 was (Pac Man VS).

If this E3 cycle is supposed to parallel the previous one properly, not only will the New Zelda be shown, but Reggie will announce Mini-Reggie(TM) or maybe his Ass-Taking Name-Kicking Reggie Twin Brother.

bout time someone else noticed what was going on this time around.    It can be actually easy at this point to figure out whats going on in nintendos brain, i mean marketing formula.

Aside from the above,   I would like to see the elder scrolls make a spash!
Considering Wind Waker came out in 2003 with a new Zelda shown in 2004, this cycle's 2nd Zelda is actually overdue.

And since Metroid Prime and Prime 3 came out in similar time frames, Retro's next project is also due this E3.  If there was a brand new Metroid in the works based on MP3's engine, it would come out this November...

lets not forget that they need to nurture this new market too.  Otherwise when a system jump happens, they wont.   One thing is for sure though, even if Nintendo labled Animal Crossing core at one point, they will always end up taking care of everyone.  Meaning E for everyone style content.  and right now, sadly that is a mini game death hole for me.   I took until this point for me to just get sick of it. (like the first year of the ds, nothing but tech demos).  But now 3rd parties are creating the content that is rich and happy..  so i am expecting in the next 3 years of this cycle, we should be getting a lot more flavor in the market..

No it wouldn't not that much anyways.   As a developer myself and work in 3d all the time.  The characters are "instanced" and then loaded and modded independently.   this is a massive memory save and I am surprised that this wouldn't be standard practice.   Instanced is kind of like a visual empty object that can be manipulated.  It may do a performance hit in the software to make it, but when playing, with how he said they are loading them, they shouldn't really have problems.

Remember, Conduit, grinder and so on are all about selling an engine, so if they can push it, they will.  There are a lot of sweet dirty tricks you can do in the 3d department, it just matters if the developers can figure out how to make it work correctly in their own engines.

Its all good though, The Grinder is showing off how the engine was modified from the conduit (play and quality) for FPS to a Left 4 dead style game.  And of course the engine was also modified to fit their gladiator game (also FPS, in 3rd person).   So while the engine can do all sorts of FPS style games, I wonder how if it can be "modified" to a complete different genre well?  im sure it can, but i wonder if they have put in the fuctionality yet?

So what other games on the 360 or ps3 (hehe just kidding bout that ps3) that are in the FPS genre that people thought couldnt be tackled on the wii and I am sure we may see what the 4th project will be. (unless said modification comes out).

Just for comparison reasons.

The Conduit = Halo = High quality FPS
The Grinder = l4d and dead rising = Massive amounts of enemies on screen
Gladiator A.D. = MK = blood and gore is possible with HVS, not everything is clean.

Looking at Gladiator (from the first fuzzy screen i thought weapon lord (anyone else?) it has to be  (for me anyways) the most generic title they have announced.   But, I think this title is more designed to show off the graphics of the engine.   In such a contained environment, HVS should be able to do all sorts of wonderful engine trickery.

Ahh, im babbling about.

Get the engine where you want it HVS and then release it so that other companies can utilized what you have put so much time into.

I am sooooo happy that werewolfs are underdone in games.       It leaves room for crafty developers to make them in all thier awesomeness.   I dont know what it is about werewolves and videogames..  but it equals win win.

edit::  They sat back, made an engine.. didnt rush, started making the conduit to get a feel for the flow.  then they start the rest of their diabolical marketing strategy and start to pump out high quality assetts (maybe) showing off and touting how easy the engine is.

so thanks HVS, for doing it your way.

a ouple of years ago. nintemdo sent me a survey, this one was centered on wether or not a gamw that sounded like oblivion would be fun and why.  it was different from other surveys too.  it mentioned that i got to take it because i always answered all their surveys.  at first i thought it was a oblivion like gameplay and sandbox for the next zelda.  but after seeing this, maybe bethesda asked nin to survey for them?  or maybe it is about the next zelda whos knows>  what i do know is that i did get the survey.

 Final destiny of the gods
Heimdall holds the Gjallarhorn into the air and blows deeply into it, and Odin converses with Mím's head. The world tree Yggdrasil shudders and groans, and the road to Hel is consumed in flames. The jötunn Hrym comes from the east, his shield before him. The Midgard serpent Jörmungandr furiously writhes, causing waves to crash. "The eagle shrieks, pale-beaked he tears the corpse", and the ship Naglfar breaks free and sets sail from the east, containing the fire jötunn inhabitants of Muspelheim as Loki steers.

The Völva continues that all of Jötunheimr, the land of the jötunn, groans, and that the Æsir hold an assembly, and that the dwarves howl outside of their stony mountain walls. Leading the fire jötunn, Surtr advances from the south, his bright sword shining. Rocky cliffs open and the giant women sink. People walk the road to Hel and heavens split apart.

The gods then do battle with the invaders: Odin dies fighting the wolf, causing his wife Frigg her second great sorrow (the first being the death of her son, the god Baldr). The god Freyr is described as fighting Surtr. Odin's son Víðarr avenges his father by stabbing Fenrir in the heart, killing the wolf. The serpent Jörmungandr opens its gaping maw, yawning widely in the air, and is met in combat by Thor. Thor, also a son of Odin and described here as protector of the earth, furiously fights the serpent, defeating it, but only able to take nine steps afterwards before collapsing. After this, people flee their homes, and the sun becomes black while the earth sinks into the sea, the stars vanish, steam rises, and flames touch the heavens.

and another take

In Norse mythology, Ragnarök (IPA: /ragnarɔk/, Old Norse "Final destiny of the gods"[2]) is a series of major events, including a great battle foretold to ultimately result in the death of a number of major figures (including the gods Odin, Thor, Freyr, Heimdall, and the jötunn Loki), the occurrence of various natural disasters, and the subsequent submersion of the world in water. Afterward, the world resurfaces anew and fertile, the surviving gods meet, and the world is repopulated by two human survivors. Ragnarök is an important event in the Norse canon, and has been the subject of scholarly discourse and theory.

The event is attested primarily in the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, and the Prose Edda, written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson. In the Prose Edda, and a single poem in the Poetic Edda, the event is referred to as Ragnarökr or Ragnarökkr (Old Norse "Twilight of the Gods"[3]), a usage popularized by 19th century composer Richard Wagner with the title of the last of his Der Ring des Nibelungen operas; Götterdämmerung.[4]

dont want, dont need, no old pokemon and castlevania and its a 170 dollars???

so that means a few things..

If this is the true successor, then new pokemon games will be coming soon that are remakes again that will allow people to get the old critters.
If this is not a true successor, then it will go away.. (considering japanese popularity though, its here to stay)
ect.. ect.
