TalkBack / RE: Revolution Wireless To Be Provided By Broadcom
« on: April 19, 2005, 12:07:42 PM »
Yeah, i think its almost a definate the the Rev's controllers will use something more sophisticated that RF.  It makes a whole lot of sense considering, and it should completely get rid of the interference complaints some people had.

I think it could also explain why they are worried about showing it off.  There is still time for Sony and MS to convert away from RF (assuming they aren't thinking the same way Nintendo is).

Why not FFXI? because it is a completely different game...  I dunno

How many games from 5 years ago do you play or ever think you'll play again?

Your right, if they do cancel it, technically I can't play again... But I'm also not paying for it anymore, and like my original system says, I will have gotten my money's worth.

Having the ability to continue playing a game rarely means you actually will, and that's my point.  If you like RPGs a lot, you are an idiot for not at least trying an MMO.  If its not your cup of tea, then I have no complaints with you.

As far as this concept of building in addictivness goes, isn't that what all games do?  I mean come on...trying to differentiate between fun and addictivness when no chemicals are involved is kind of silly.

hahahah.... why is this thread still open?  It should just be the generic advertise your site thread... blah...

Anyway, to megame.  If you really do want to sincerely try and get readership and posters to go to your site, you are going about it in the wrong fashion.  Posts like this usually get locked in a matter of moments and your post gets edited so you look silly.  What I suggest is, clean up this thread...  basically make it go away.  Put a polite link to your site in your sig.  Then just join this community.  If you gain the respect of the people on this site, they will be more likely to check your site out.

Since I have already, as I expected, received the "But Final Fantasy XI is teh sUck" response, I'm going to sum up my argument and move on.

Though games like FF XI may have some flaws as far as how you pay for them, the monthly fee isn't one of them.  If you understand what goes into making a game like that good, the monthly fee makes a whole lot of sense.

My entire argument is based off of the notion that games with monthly fees are worth it if you enjoy them.  Just as worth it as a game that you paid 50 bucks for and never had to worry about a monthly fee.

It's not really flawed.  The concept is based on how long you ACTUALLY play a game.  All I'm saying is that, if you love a game, the pay to play thing can be worth it.  In the case of FFXI you get new updates at least once every 3 months, usually even more frequently.

As for your timesplitters example, yes, you would be getting a great deal.  Compare it to my Pokemon example.  I'm just saying that if you think a game like Eternal Darkness is worth the money (at launch) (WHICH IT WAS) then why isn't FF XI?  I mean, you could play ED over and over again, but the hours of play wouldn't necessarily be considered great the nth time through.

I wouldn't really argue with that.  And if a review reflects that the online experience in the PS2/X-Box version is lacking or 'no fun' I would hope they wouldn't mark down for the GCN lacking it _as much_.  Still, I mean, I hate to say it, but I agree with Ian here.  Reviews should look at features.  Even a mediocre version of a feature is better than not having that featuer at all.  There will always be people that still enjoy it.

Say for the sake of this argument, Super Smash Bros. Melee was released across all three platforms.  Only the Nintendo version had the trophy concept.  When looking at the bulk of the gameplay, trophies make no difference.  But who here would say that the non Nintendo versions deserved the same score?

Regrets that this will just turn into another Bill vs. the world thread.... but...

Every game is essentially a pay to play game.  If you really want to break it down, do it on hours you actually played vs. how much you paid.  Here is a good example.  I am counting games that I feel were well worth playing to me, so don't argue quality of play time.

Eternal Darkness | 15 GREAT hours of play | 50 dollars | $3.33 / hour
Wind Waker | 20 GREAT hours of play | 50 dollars | $2.50 / hour
Pokemon Gold | 350 GREAT hours of play | 30 dollars | $0.09 / hour
Final Fantasy X | 55 GREAT hours of play | 50 dollars | $0.91 / hour
Final Fantasy XI | 600 GREAT hours of play | 40 dollars (game) + 30 dollars (expansion) + 13 dollars * 13months = 239 dollars | $0.39 / hour (and falling)

Complaining about pay to play games is stupid.  The only time it's a bad deal is when you don't like the game.

Those are some of my favorite games of all time (at least of the ones I can remember my play time on).  Each one was a worthwhile purchase.  Just look at the numbers.

(Please don't flame me for my game preferences....)

I don't think Hyrule castle is an issue at all.  In fact it is easily my favorite level.  Playing 1 on 1 it is never an issue because if you are far apart, you don't need to see that well because there are no fights going on.  When I'm playing 4 player with friends, if some shmo goes off and zooms the camera out, he pisses the rest of us off and becomes a target.  After doing that once, he doesn't do it again.  1 on 1 on 1 on 1 is much easier than 3 against 1... =P

Anyway, if I had a compaint about the camera system in the game it wouldn't be about the camera system.  (I know that doesn't make any sense).  The one thing a DS version could save us from is when the characters go behind the HUD.  That is the only frustrating part of the entire game.

Dude....i think I may have to buy this...  I don't really understand why they are making an animaniacs game so long after the cartoon...  I also don't think its gonna be very good...but...  I mean, its animaniacs for goodness sake.

Melee has a camera problem?  I think its one of the most innovative and cool dynamic camera systems around, considering the gameplay.

MP3 players caused the rise of MP3s?  I sure as heck don't think so.  Many MP3 players were prohibitively expensive in teh days of Napster.  I think things have leveled off since then.

Well I think any gimmick arguments for the DS will go away if this No-Line concept is all its cracked up to be.  If the Rev _launches_ with a similar concept I don't think it will be an issue.  I really hope that Nintendo's online plan involves statistics, records, etc. beyond just plain match making.  If this plan is static throughout both of the systems then I really think they will have something revolutionary.  (Even if that revolution is building off of something MS has already done.)  Think about picking up your DS at an airport, seeing your far-away friend on your friend's list is playing a Rev title, sending them an in-game message asking if they would rather play Mario Kart DS... etc. etc.  Maybe connectivity isn't a failure, just ahead of its time by a couple years.

But that's what I want announced at E3.  Nintendo can make online fun even for people that don't like to play games online.  Mario-net can be something that has infinite appeal beyond match making...  I dunno.

Does anyone else find it odd that this picture is all fuzzy like he had to take it quickly, yet he had enough time to flip the controller over and take another one?  I smell hoax.

Not to mention they're far more efficent for multimedia processing even if the computer is entirely devoted to it. And the OS is so much better than Windows.

This coming from a PC own.

(and btw, that "600 dollar" PC you claim I have is actually a 4100 dollar laptop that I got last July)
Good, so that means you just don't know how to use it.  And the fact that you think a mac is less suceptable to being broken proves my point.  You don't know how to use computers.  The only reason a Mac is less suceptable is because it isn't as much of a target.  If you were gonna write ad mongering code would you write it for a platform with 90% market share or one with some portion of that final 10%?  Come on now...  If you really have a 4100 dollar laptop I'll buy you a IBook and we can trade.  I have a 700 dollar laptop.  I know it isn't a power house... I didn't buy it for that...but because I know how to keep a machine clean and optimized people (like you even?) look at it and use it and think I spent 4 grand.  Ya know how you have to take a road test to get your license?  I really think the computer industry should do something similar.

One last thing...  My argument for PC superiority to Mac has nothing to do with operating systems.  Most people like one more than the other only because they are more used to it... and that's fine...  I just enjoy the competition in the hardware PC industry.  It allows for more flexible, upgradable, and powerful systems.
