Also, format wars are something I like avoiding all together. Seriously blu-ray (or w/e next format will be the main stay for media) should be used on the 8th gen systems, not this current gen.

It's going to be extremely sad (well not really) when Sony PS3 gets destroyed by the next Xbox and Nintendo console. Sony's whole 10 year plan is absolutely absurd simply because technology evolves so fast that by the time MS's and Nintendos 8th gen consoles come out they will probably make PS3 look like a joke.

The only "negative" thing to ever happen to my Wii after an update was my old freeloader disc no longer worked for loading my import GC games =/. So i wouldn't worry too much about it (though it would be nice if we got patch notes from Nintendo.)

Blu-Ray is the wildcard.  Sony bet that they could make Blu-Ray popular and the format of choice by including it in the PS3.  And with retailers that worked.  Retailers are backing more and more on Blu-Ray and not HD-DVD, and I am willing to bet the retailers faith in the PS3 and Sony brand name helped.  But the consumers haven't chosen the PS3 or Blu-Ray yet really.  And it is leading many analyists to predict that unless Blu-ray becomes market dominate that the PS3 will not become the leader again.  It is a catch 22, because Blu-Ray was banking on the PS3's success to become popular, and now the PS3 is banking on the success of Blu-Ray to become popular.
