TalkBack / Re: WB Clarifies LEGO City Undercover Storage Situation
« on: March 31, 2017, 05:43:10 PM »
They fit Breath of the Wild into 13 GB, so I wouldn't be so sure about that.

1302
CONMEBOL's just a weird situation. On one hand, there are only 10 teams in it, but on the other, they're pretty much all at least somewhat good. Going by the current Elo rankings, the lowest South American team is Bolivia at 45, which would rank 4th in CONCACAF, 5th in Asia, and 6th in Africa.

1303
You say South America are the losers, but it's fairly likely that under this format 70% of that confederation will make the World Cup.

We had a spambot tonight with the username "ads". It's like they're not even trying anymore.

General Gaming / Re: What is your most recent gaming purchase?
« on: March 31, 2017, 03:59:09 AM »
My most recent purchase that I made just a couple minutes ago was MLB The Show 17 for PS4, likely the game I will spend the most time with out of anything on any platform this year.

1306
Yeah, that's the place. The lanterns made sure I didn't lose all my progress, but you can't carry a lit torch in the rain, so I got a quarter of the way there and then had to sit around for 5 or 10 minutes waiting for it to let up before I could continue.

1307
I'm still really early on in the game, but I just had it start raining during a sequence where the quest called for me to carry a flame from one place to another and I had no choice but to just wait it out before I could continue playing, so suffice it to say I'm not a big fan of the rain mechanic right now.

That'd be nice. I'm still hooked on New Leaf, my second time through, but it's about time we got a real successor. It's a series that I really think is better suited to a handheld, and I think would benefit from the Switch's hybrid nature.

1309
Who's going to show up next? Bill? Pro? DAAaMan64?

1310
I don't know what to say right now.

I like the idea somebody on these forums came up with for a Donkey Kong game modeled on the climbing and environmental platforming in the Uncharted franchise. It'd fit his character and, while part of an existing IP, be something Nintendo's never done before.

H...Hel...Hello?  Is this thing on?

I've been a member of the forum here for over 5 years, but I don't think I've posted outside of Talkback in at least 4 so I might as well re-introduce myself.

Hello, I'm Stuart and I've been very active in the NWR-related Twitter subcommunity of mutual follows for many years, but I decided to quit Twitter and see how I feel about it in a month or two  ;D

So, uh, hi everybody!  I'm trying out being active on the NWR forum!

You were always a great presence on Twitter, and it'd be great to have that here on the forums. I hope you stick around.

I guess I should reintroduce myself. You may remember me I was here 4 or so years ago.  I used to play in Mafia games here and triple post a ton.   Lets see...  Since I was here last I have moved out of CA and into AZ because the cost of living was too much for me. Being In Phoenix for about 6 months now. It is pretty nice and the people are great. I did lots of self reflection and I am happy where I am at in my life currently.  It is also nice to have family nearby. So yeah I am back.

Welcome back!

You got nothing.

Christian Pulisic is just amazing. We knew about his amazing technical ability, but today he not only stood up to the intense physicality and outright thuggery of playing on the road in CONCACAF, he gave as good as he got. When Clint Dempsey took a shot to the head, it was none other than Christian Pulisic getting right up in the Panama players' faces about it. This is a side of him that doesn't tend to come up in the Bundesliga, but it's going to come up a lot in CONCACAF, and I'm very happy to see that he's more than up to that.

1316
Maybe cartridges was a mistake.

What other option was there? I guess they could have gone digital-only, but that would have pissed off way more people than this is going to.

TalkBack / New Frontier Days: Founding Pioneers (Switch) Review
« on: March 28, 2017, 02:43:53 AM »

Switch's first strategy game is hectic but fun.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/44371/new-frontier-days-founding-pioneers-switch-review

These days city building strategy games tend to be the realm of either big, complex PC titles or small, microtransaction-focused mobile games. New Frontier Days: Founding Pioneers tries to find a middle ground as a game that’s relatively simple on the surface, but hides a fair amount of depth that can be overwhelming with its pace.

First things first, this is a game that really demands to be played with the Switch in handheld mode and using the touch screen. Using the buttons is workable for a while, but as your town gets more and more complex and your population grows, dragging the cursor around to select people and buildings takes too much time to be a long term option with the clock always ticking.

The gameplay in New Frontier Days is reminiscent of the old PC series The Settlers. You start with a headquarters and a couple villagers, and use them to gather resources to build more buildings, which can be used to increase your population and the amount of things you can do. Send one of your pioneers out to chop trees or mine stone, and then other pioneers manning a sawmill or quarry can process those resources into things you can use to create more complex buildings or sell.

The central challenge of the game is the ever-ticking clock. At the end of every in-game year (a few minutes in real time), you need to have built up a certain amount of food and money to hold a festival. Getting to that point requires a lot of juggling, making sure each pioneer is maximizing his or her potential. This can get very hectic, even before you hit double digit villagers. There’s never any real downtime, forcing you to jump from building to building setting up queues just to keep on pace for what you need for the festival and a bit of growth.

The game encourages you to start with the Story Mode, which includes a detailed tutorial that explains a lot of the underlying mechanics of the game, but also adds more long term goals that creates an even more hectic experience than the standard Survival Mode. Both modes include side objectives such as acquiring a certain amount of materials that get you bonuses like increasing the price you can sell goods for, which Free Mode doesn’t have any goals and allows you to apply those bonuses at any time.

New Frontier Days offers a very different experience from anything else in the early Switch lineup, and I think it’s a valuable one for people who enjoy this type of game. While the game can be overwhelming at times, it’s very rewarding to see your little settlement grow and thrive. Unlike some similar games, it always feels like you’re playing an integral role in what’s going on, but that also means you always have to give it your full attention

There's also Pikmin 4, which we already know exists. That's not as much of a heavy hitter, but it'll be there and be a nice complement to the bigger announcements.

Oh yeah good point!!! Would that be a 2018 release you think?

Since what we've heard indicates it's basically done, I wouldn't be surprised to see it come out this year.

20 million in year one would most likely mean Switch eclipsing Wii U's lifetime sales before the end of 2017. That would really be something.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Is Snipper Clips a killer app?
« on: March 25, 2017, 11:21:51 PM »
I really like it a lot, and I've even been playing it solo and I'm saying that. No one's buying the system to play Snipperclips, but it's an excellent complementary piece to Zelda in the launch lineup.

The most goals ever conceded in a 34-game MLS season is 67. Minnesota is currently on pace to give up 153.

Why couldn't they let the testfire run for a full day/days like normal game demos/betas? Hate the odd times as I have to miss most of them due to work/life.

They want to test how the servers respond to high numbers of players, and this way they funnel as many people into it at the same time as possible.

I'd predicted that Pulisic would take over as the USMNT's central playmaker by the time the World Cup came around, and as much as I like Sacha Kljestan and Benny Feilhaber, I don't think anybody else is taking Pulisic out of that spot going forward after last night.

1325
I was a nervous wreck going into this game with the high stakes and the poor form we'd been in. I really wasn't expecting it to then go the way it did. They left no doubt that this "must-win" game would indeed be won. I loved to see Clint Dempsey pick up a hat trick in his first game back after missing time due to an irregular heartbeat, which puts him only a couple goals away from Landon Donovan's USMNT scoring record.
