I started up Minecraft on Switch and I'm kind of blown away by how much the game has changed since the last time I played it years ago. Villagers, experience levels, enchanting, and more are all new to me, and even going through the tutorial it's pretty overwhelming.

There are still two more this weekend and a bunch more next weekend.

I played some more of this tonight, and I am absolutely in love with this game. I kind of had the same experience as nickmitch in terms of having a tough time adjusting to punching with the shoulder buttons because I had gotten used to using A and B, so I kind of switched back and forth unintentionally over the course of it.

I will probably buy this and then not play it like I did with several previous Monster Hunter games.

And showmanship is what E3 is all about. What comes out in the end is what's most important, but strong announcements are important in and of themselves, especially for the Switch this year. Nintendo's got some good momentum going in terms of sales and mindshare, and "winning" E3 would keep that going and push it even further.

After an hour of playing this game in handheld mode, I have to say I think the traditional layout works really well. Punches work fine with the face buttons, though I might have switched it to A and Y for right and left, moving dash to B. That hour also completely sold me on the game, where I was a bit hesitant going in.

I know the post right above this was all about Josh Sargent hype, but the kid just put on an absolute clinic against Senegal, scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 victory and so much more. It was a fantastic team performance overall, but he, Tyler Adams, and the finally healthy first choice CB pairing of Erik Palmer-Brown and Cameron Carter-Vickers put it away.

I've got nothing against the motion controls, but I mostly play my Switch in the handheld configuration where the traditional controls will be my only option. I don't want to criticize the layout until I've gotten my hands on it, though.

If you buy a game on the Japanese Switch eShop, and then it later releases for the US one, would you get that version for free? Or would you have to buy it again?

Most games purchased in one region also show up as purchased in the others when browsing the store, but don't seem to show up in the download list.

Wow. I'm not just saying this because the team I was rooting for won, that was an incredible game of hockey. Take a bow, Craig Anderson.

Adrock is right, they should have made this a Rabbids-Metroid crossover instead.

I hope the gameplay is amazing but the story is insufferably stupid.

I hope the gameplay is amazing and the story is played completely straight and deadly serious. It should be a compelling drama that never once acknowledges how ridiculous the Rabbid characters are.

Yeah, that's the one. It's pretty barebones right now, but they're going to be patching in more content. Between it, Splatoon, and Arms, that seems to be Nintendo's MO with multiplayer-focused games these days.

I just bought Battle Sports Mekuru on Switch. It's currently only available on the Japanese eShop, but the game has full English support. I've played it a little bit so far and I like it. The description I saw of "Bomberman meets Splatoon" is a pretty accurate one. I can't wait to try this out with some friends.

Giving up 6 goals on 18 shots is pretty damned impressive.

Things tend to go through phases around here, and right now it seems like every spambot wants to post in Polish.

Josh Sargent is a fantastic talent. He's young enough that he'll be playing in the U17 World Cup later this summer, but he scored a pair against a very good Ecuador team in the opener of the U20 World Cup today, which combined with Luca de la Torre's 94th minute equalizer made for an exciting 3-3 draw. Everybody knows Sargent's heading to Europe when he turns 18 next February, and if he keeps performing as he has at the youth level he's going to have a lot of offers.

In the aftermath of the NFL draft and how highly my Browns were graded by just about everyone, I've gotten back into Madden 17. The great thing about modern sports games is they all include some form of community roster sharing, so I was able to download an updated file that includes all of this year's draft picks that someone went in and meticulously created by hand.

Returning to this game, I'm reminded just how good it is. Madden is a series that was derided for years, partially for good reason and partially by people who resent EA's exclusive deal with the NFL. The last couple years, though, and particularly last year, EA has put out an exceptional product, arguably the best its ever been. All the mechanics work pretty well, and no part of the game feels overpowered and/or broken. Playing this more now really makes me wish this year's entry was coming to Switch.

I'm just crazy enough to adjust my sleep schedule specifically to watch the U.S. matches in the Under-20 World Cup next week at 4, 7, and 5 a.m. respectively.

What a waste by the Predators to manage to claw their way back but not finish the job. Oh well, it was a hell of a game. Even though I'm rooting for Nashville, I don't honestly care that much who wins this series (as opposed to the other one) and I hope it goes the full 7 with more close, entertaining games.

We're in a wonderful time of year in American soccer right now, and that's the early stages of the U.S. Open Cup. This week is maybe the best one, where the D2 teams (USL and NASL) face off against amateur sides, and with still plenty of matches left to play, we've had one hell of an upset. The New York Cosmos, reigning NASL champions, were taken down by amateur club Reading United. While it is sad that that means we won't get a Cosmos-Red Bulls or Cosmos-NYCFC matchup this year, it's a testament to how great this tournament is.

I forgot to submit for this feature, but the N++ developers have mentioned possibly porting that game over, which I'd love to see. Or Super Meat Boy. The system could use a few really good platformers.
