TalkBack / Nintendo's Earnings Forecasts
« on: April 08, 2003, 03:38:49 PM »
Lots and lots of buzz going around. Gotta love that passion!

Anyway, I gotta chime in and say that its kind of odd how good ol' Nintendo did some serious pushing in March in the US  (GBA SP, Pokeman Ruby and Saphire, Da Wind Waker) and boasting about it. Next thing you know "oopsie, we didn't reach our goal."

If they know they didn't reach their goal, they know what they have to do. If the guys on top are going "OH MY GOD! What are we EVER going to do?" They don't deserve to be there. They know they have to roll up their silk sleeves and start taking it to the man errrr the competition.

It ain't over until they say Die...

TalkBack / Nintendo Crushes In March
« on: April 04, 2003, 01:41:04 PM »
Now THAT's good news. 1.1 million in only a few days, that's the home run hitter!

Sorry Grey Ninja, FF won't be stateside this summer, it appears to be set around the holiday season. The Japanese release is sometime in July. But it'll be a good gauge to see how Square's return to Nintendo will fare.

TalkBack / Resident Evil No Longer Exclusive?
« on: April 04, 2003, 01:29:45 PM »
I agree with nineFISH on this one.  RE Online for the PS2 is the only RE project outside of GC so far. As far as total sales 'overseas', are they counting all the games combined? RE 1 and RE 0 should should've done reasonably well.

the RE 2 and RE 3 ports being $40 MSRP are riduculous, No surprise if they sold poorly. I can pick up the Dreamcast for dirt cheap.

Wonder if they'll be a rubuttle?

With WrestleMania XiX a ways off, Wrestling fans may have to stretch their imagination with this one. I always wondered who would win in a fight: Method Man or DMX?

Shame they don't have Nas or Jay-Z. Now they can REALLY battle....

TalkBack / Tomb Raider 2 Movie Site Launches
« on: March 28, 2003, 01:50:30 PM »
Never saw the first one, but I'll take a wild guess and say it ends up in the 'gamer movies' bin, which is another way of saying 'mediocre'. Unless I hear otherwise.

On a semi-unrelated note, wonder if any progess is made in making a metroid movie....

TalkBack / Dow Jones Interviews David Gosen

I'm going to play devil's advocate here, since its not fair to put N-Gage and GBA head to to head. First off, its not even out.  Second, Nokia has yet to announce a price for their gadget (Chances are its going to cost an arm and a leg). Lastly and most important, we haven't seen what the N-Gage can REALLY do. All the media (Including trusty planetgamecube) have seen are unfinished, unpolished games. No sense in Comparing Sonic Advance 2 which has been ready for the public to Sonic N, which probably isn't even 50 percent complete.

It'll be interesting how Nokia is going to market their 'gadget.' Either 2 things are going to happen A)Be a 3D0 B) Be a Sony

TalkBack / The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker RELEASES!
« on: March 25, 2003, 01:47:26 PM »
Well Mr.Mojo there are no REAL spoilers, but if you want to see everything for your self, just play for an hour and come see the review. I just  Got my copy, and after barley and hour, I' m impressed.

I'm not a betting man, but I if I was, this baby is gonna sweep some awards w/ gaming Rags, and next years GDC and DICE. And the rival Fanboys are gonna be left scratching their heads wondering what the hell are they raving about.

Time for the Legend to begin again....

TalkBack / Industry Giants Behind UGE 2003

Wow, that's a lot of info to be just a 'rumor.'

UGE sounds promising, and now we the common folk can revel in gaming bliss...Or something. All you need is some cash, patience, and more patience. Some backbone wouldn't hurt either

Thanks for the clarification.  It would also explain why the taverns and resturants looked semi-modern. I always wondered about that...

I guess you have to give it up to quality Control on this one right? Better to have a polished product than some buggy one.  and besides, you can suffer by having too few racers, but never suffer from  too many....

19th Century China? Call me stupid but I thought CTHD took place around the Han Dynasty (Roughly the same time as the Roman Empire as an Western Equivelant) And again, don't quote me on this one but the Green Destiny was supposed to be forged during the era of the Pre-Dynastic Emperors (I dunno how to bring this one home, but its around 400-500 B.C.E).

Anybody up on their Chinese history to clarify?

TalkBack / GameCube Sales Double in February
« on: March 19, 2003, 02:06:13 PM »
I hate to bust the bubble, but while  Gamecube's sales are up, there hasn't been a tally of total (hardware sales.) Last I checked, these were the figures as of December 2002. Slighty outdated, I'm sure, but just a rough figure for people to think about. (courtesey of Nintendojo.com)

Cumulative Installed Base:
PS2: 15,870,000
XBOX: 4,601,000
GCN: 3,583,000
GBA: 11,894,000

So tally the new results and see what you find. My math skills are simply not up to snuff

TalkBack / Batman: Dark Tomorrow Released
« on: March 18, 2003, 01:21:29 PM »
I gotta agree with Mr.Bloodworth on this one.  While it wasn't nessecarriliy considered vaporware (cough duke nukem foever, cough), This one took a while to get out of the gates.

Its interetesting formula to put one of the world's most reconizable comic book heroes, and put a more 'mature' emphaisis on it. Can't wait for the review here to see if those delays were worth it.

Ok, I admit it, I'm a wrestling fan. Sue me. While attempts at originality should be praised, I'd get (an improved) WresteMania instead. Looks interesting though...

TalkBack / New Soul Calibur 2 Characters Unveiled
« on: March 17, 2003, 01:23:25 PM »
mmmmm...  Sueng Mina

She's the example of speaking softly and carrying a big stick

It'll be interesting how they'll incorporate Sophitia. If I remember correctlty, she lost her gift by...... ermmmm... how shall say this?  She gave birth a to a child (insert act here) and her sister Cassandra decided to find Soul Edge. But since they're already including the likes of  Link, Heihachi and Spawn, what 's a little more 'stretching' the imagination? And really, who pays attention to story lines in fighting games anyway?....

Looks like Namco is looking to bring out the best fighting game EVAR. Now if they could only put online play.....

Well, the tools are there, but will someone build? All except for one thing....

Means of communication. Obviously PSO was at a HUGE disadvantage in this department for GC, but easily remedied with XboX live (voice chat.) One thing about online games is either talking trash, or talking tatics.

Perhaps Gamespy will have voice capability? Because the chances of seeing a Keyboard stateside is welll....'highly unlikely'.

TalkBack / Wind Waker Most Pre-Ordered Game in History
« on: March 12, 2003, 01:57:37 PM »
hmmm.... Good News right? I guess anyone else who STILL says this game won't sell because of graphics have a foot in their mouths. Over half a million (not just the Nintendophiles) say other wise. The promo obviously worked; and to all the naysayers I have this to say:

Know your role and shut your mouth!

Hopefully this  will sell some  Cubes.

TalkBack / Exclusive Connectivity Features for Splinter Cell
« on: March 11, 2003, 01:28:05 PM »
I mentioned this in another post but applies here too:

Now THAT's 3rd party support.  Are other devolopers taking notes? Hopefully this version will be better than the GC port of Ghost Recon, it got trashed by the critics, though comparing the two is like apples to oranges...

TalkBack / Nintendo Scores Awards from Game Developers
« on: March 07, 2003, 01:32:31 PM »
All I have to say is THAT is class for you.  And for those who thought Metroid Prime was robbed at AIAS, here's some redemption.  A little sticker on Metroid Prime's case would be enough to make rival fan boys puke and say "GDC sux man...."

This piece was on yahoo News and the posts to that were interesting. Here's what one Fan Boy said(They shall remain nameless to protect the stupid.):

"didn't see any mention of GTA:Vice city, what's up with that? No other game last year came close in originality and game play. I think whomever voted on this is full of it and doesn't really play the games!"

So sad, anyway, on to E3.

TalkBack / EA To Focus More on GBA-GC Connectivity
« on: March 06, 2003, 01:37:38 PM »
" I'm definitly thinking the connectivity will mostly be for zany customizations."

Word. Now THAT'S 3rd party support.

"will people care about the GBA/GC connection features enough for this to affect sales? Sure this feature is unique to Gamecube but is it enough for people to buy over, say, online support on the other consoles?"

Interesting question Ian Sane (like the pun.) For XboX, its almost cookie-cutter thanks to XboX live. I'm guessing its a bit clunky on PS2 (I'm assuming they're not using a type of network say like Blizzard's Battle.net) For Joe Schmoe gamer, the GBA-GCN connection has to be something that's gonna knock your socks off. But only time will tell (E3 maybe?).

TalkBack / Teens Still Controlling Game Market
« on: March 05, 2003, 04:49:09 PM »
* The growing variety of games ranked as the second highest positive trend; however, the variety for male gamers was clearly higher than for female respondents as 'lack of variety' by the older, female gamers still ranked near the top of the list of gamers' complaints.

Simply put, despite all the Advances (pun intended) made in the industry, its still a Boy's Club. The question is then: What do women want in games? More Animal Crossing/Sims? Naked men? A female poster child who isn't known for her rack? We're all ears.

This group uniformly regarded the PlayStation 2 and Xbox platforms as "more grown-up."
Chances are this is because these children (I'm assuming) can't buy their own consoles yet. And as always, children can't wait to grow up and (normal) teenagers want to back away from "childish" things. Smoking a cigeratte, getting drunk, watching porno is what these damn kids want to do. But like their ever so patient parents "Its just a phase."

Or there's the young gaming intellectual who knows the truth, but gets slammed by his peers because they can't get past  "kiddie" graphics (Wind Waker) and can't understand why gameplay is more important than Silicon Boobs (BMX XXX)

Only 5 percent of the youth gamers surveyed currently subscribe to an online game that requires a monthly fee; however, 21 percent reported an interest in subscribing in the future.

Again, money, money, money. If they were working, they'd jumped at it. And aside from XboX live, there's no real organization to online gaming in general (Phantasy Star and Everquest for the PS2 have their own dedicated networks.) Sega has extended their hand to help those who want to send their games online (Check the news Archives), but it seems no one's biting.

TalkBack / New Giftpia Info
« on: March 05, 2003, 04:15:06 PM »
hmmm... an ambitious title. Animal Crossing unexpectadely lit a fire under everyone's A$$, could Giftipia do the same? But until its gets confirmed in here in the U.S (Maybe sneek a peek at E3 perhaps?), this could be Japan's best kept 'secret.'
