TalkBack / RE:Nintendo Announces Wireless GBA Link
« on: September 26, 2003, 09:08:17 PM »
Quote

1.) It's not a plug in replacement for the existing link cable, as games need to specifically support it

ummm, where does it say that this will work only for specific games? Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but it says:

Quote

The device will allow players to link up just as if they are using a standard link cable, only without the wires involved

Now there maybe games that may capitalize on the wireless feature, as you could probably post high scores, get download-ables for games, etc. But as far as something like getting your Soul Trade on in Castlevaniva is concerned; its still possible.

As far as no headphones, that's a bummer, but that's one of the weaknesses of the SP. But since I don't have to buy batteries and don't have to mess with lighting kits, I can stomach the trade-off. But that's just quirky ol me.

I haven't seen any commericals for PN03 (Maybe that's a good thing); Viewtiful Joe now will have no excuse to bomb. A sequel is banking on North America's success, let's show some appreciation for the fine folks at Capcom for giving us an exclusive breath of fresh air when it comes out. Henshin-a-go-go baby! (Now they got me saying it...)

Weeeeellll, Square-Enix can dump other franchises onto the GCN (*cough Dragon Warrior, Chrono someting Cough*) but that's just my quirky mind at work.

TalkBack / RE:Kingdom Hearts GBA Bound
« on: September 25, 2003, 08:14:54 PM »
Looks like Kingdom Hearts gets a second chance(GTA Vice City came out around the same time, and KH would forever play 2nd fiddle to the 80s trip): On GBA? Better than nothing I guess.

Wonder if they'll include the Pixar characters...

If there's one thing Sega doesn't do, is clear the air. I thought VFQ was vaporware, but at least the some people know it exists. Same thing with Shenmue 3; they won't clear up the matter: Is it coming or Not? Its a simple question that needs a simple answer.

My only guess for this flakiness is because of Sega's restructring; AM-2 will not have Yu-Suzuki at the helm, as he has his own studio.

Should I just go to Sega and just say "Hey, VFQ: Yay or Nay?" I'll probably get "Thank you for your concern, how ever, blah blah blah...." This isn't politics you know, no need to skirt the issue.

This is the market of the casual gamer, who has always responded overwhelmingly to the ageless appeal of Nintendo.

Riiiight, the same casual gamers that I come across saying everything from "Lamecube," to "Ghey Cube", to those who ate up Splinter Cell as oppossed to Metroid Prime last winter. The same casual gamer who thinks GTA is God, and Nintendo is "ghey" because they don't have it. The same casual gamer which before the release of Zelda, called it weak soley on graphics alone. Yeah, the casual gamer showed Nintendo some love. </sarcasm>

Aside from that, sounds like Metroid Zero mission is coming sooner than I thought! Yay! More Metroid! </no sarcasm>

Its a nice bombshell, despite that slight blemish on top. Though I can't wait for the Mall Tour; anyone check out last year's Cube Clubs? Please let it come to Detroit....

« on: September 24, 2003, 08:29:10 PM »
Hopefully Cubes will start flying off the shelves. I guess the jury's still out on that Zelda deal.

Its a shame Nintendo won't be pushing LAN support; at 99 a pop (Plus Broadband and Cables) a gaming LAN couldn't be any cheaper. Oh well, there must some reason to the madness....

Ummm, Knoxxvile you DO realize that those characters you just mentioned were from companies they consider rivals right? Sega has their own little fighting game I'm sure you heard of it: Virtua fighter 4.

Namco also makes RPGS, like Tales, Xenosaga, ect. You'd think they'd knock on their rival's door and ask to use their characters? Riiiiiight....

Shinobi is also owned by Sega, see above statement.

Same goes with Tecmo, who are pretty much in Microsoft's corner.

Even if Microsoft and Sony wanted to bribe these companies, it would just be considered 'distasteful.' Which kind of shows that only a company like Nintendo could do this.

It'd be very interesting if Namco (In a crazy alternate universe) released a special Arcade edition featuring the console characters and console exclusives. Then that would settle once and for all who would win in a fight? All they'd need is Nintendo's permission. (Though I'm sure hardcore SC2 would stay far away from them, the casual player wouldn't mind taking Link for a spin)

I guess we'll have to wait until TGS to clear the air. Its best not to judge on screenshots alone.

As far as Cube-Europe goes, they're the ones who confirmed Dead Phoenix NOT cancelled; the rest of the Western press have yet to clarify this error. Unless they're lying through their teeth, I consider them credible.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Nintendo fans reach 'cult' status
« on: September 20, 2003, 09:49:23 PM »
Hmmm... Heaven forbid there be another gamecrash; that's the last thing we need. Oh, PIAC, that's one pimpin' room you got there, all it needs is a fridge and a bathroom and you have little need to see the light of day...

I think we're simply suffering a generation gap here. Back in our day, there was a good chance that Nintendo was the first console we ever saw. (Lest you go back to the Atari days, my question for you is how did you get hooked to Nintendo?) I'm going on a limb and say Nintendo single handedly saved the video game industry back in the day; its a damn shame a worthy rival like Sega isn't around to balance it in this day and age. (Though their collaberations today are merely a hint of what these companies can do together, I can see them making the next AAA must-have title if things work out right.) These kids today have so much to choose from, even PC games which back in 85 were simply nothing more than text based games that appealed only to the geekest of the geeks. Back then, it was all about the games; our minds were not filled with how boobies make games 'cool', beating Super Mario Bros w/o using warp pipes was.

Unfortunaltely, those days have vanished; forever ingrained in our minds, but will probably never be repeated. Society has now an age of where children are capricious, and are pushed to grow up faster. Kids in their preteens now have cell phones, and young girls are dressing sluttier, but that's getting off topic. The point is that I believe kids are a little trendier, and that 'kiddie' Nintendo isn't 'it.' I can only hope that there will be enough members of the Nintendo army to keep it afloat in tough times. With out it, many publishers will be content to get their piece and be out, leaving no legacy behind.

Thanks for listening; my bed is calling me. (Or is that SC2?..)

I'm tempted to ask if Agent Seven can somehow prove that he talked with Naka-san, but I'll have to take his word for it, you always seem to be one step ahead somehow... You'd figure Sega would have some revenue to get some good interpreters but that's veering off topic.

This better not be Megaton 2; I'm guessing something a little smaller like a new exculsive or more specific details about the deal with AOL and Nintendo.

Guess you better start honing that Snake technique; I really don't understand all the buff behind it. Its not that hard to do, but you need a straightaway, and some space. I can do it in Mute City and Casino's Double Oval tracks, but only for a few seconds. My own skills will need polish. Does anyone use the Logitech Wheel? If so, any advantages?

Any of the PGC staff going to partake in this?

How time flies. I remember the buzz going around that Hideo Kojima as making a GBA game. Not any ordinary one mind you, but it was gonna be special. I remember crossing my fingers saying "Please let it come, pleast let it come here." Lo and behold, its here!

The kicker is fall's coming, and winter sneaks up just like that around my area. I just hope the SP can take cold Conditions...

General Gaming / RE:Rare: A Year Later
« on: September 15, 2003, 08:44:38 PM »
Man how time flies. I remember a year ago, I was talking with the manager at my local Blockbuster just talking about gaming news (He's an XboX fanboy by the way) and I mentioned that Rare got sold to Nintendo. He was going like 'Ha ha, proof that Nintendo can't compete.' We were doing some friendly exchanges, and I remember the statement that Rare was going to release 5 games in 2.5 years. He went "Watch, those games will put Nintendo in their grave." Seeing as how he wasn't familiar with the Rare works I decided to put his money where his mouth is. I bet him 500 dollars that Rare will NOT release 5 games in 2.5 years. And to be a good sport, I'll add 6 months making 5 games in 3 years. He seemingly went mum and changed the topic.

Here we are 1 year later, and Rare has delivered nothing(Its a great read by the way. So concise.). Seeing as how XboX has been catering to the older gamer, I really don't see good sales for Grabbed by the Ghoulies or Kameo. Chances are they will pass it off as kiddy.

Perfect Dark? I'm going to say that it will bomb. Why you may ask? One phrase: Halo 2. Just about anyone worth their XBoX will eat that game up and play for months to come. They'll go 'Perfect what? Sorry, I got a 32 player deathmatch on Halo 2, don't have time for some toony FPS.' Unless its compatible with XboX Live...

In any case, I do wish the folks at Rare best of luck. They have familes to feed, and some of the employees had no say in the matter. Keep on Truckin!

Looks like the EA beast is looking for fresh meat. Since they do want independent studios, I'm sure they'll come across quirky and zany projects. Will EA have the courage to mass market them?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Question about GBA SP repair
« on: September 13, 2003, 07:47:42 PM »
I know its kind of late (So much for being helpful) but Its worth a shot. The GBA and SP are reigion free, but since you imported, NOA will probably not have your SP in their database, hence no warranty. They will

A) Send you to the nearest authorized Nintendo repair center and will have to pay whatever fee the shop charges.
B) (Doubtful but possible) will ask you to send it and replace it with an American one, but since it isn't under a U.S warranty, you might have to pay for shipping and the unit (Maybe 70 dollars or so.)

Either way, check Nintendo's official website for info. Hope that helps you out. Though IMHO, you could've waited the extra week or so. But to each their own hmmm?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:METROID PRIME 2
« on: September 13, 2003, 07:37:43 PM »
If memory serves, there were those who were skeptical that Metroid being done in first person would doom it. Whatever new twist they put in Metroid Prime 2, I'm confident that Retro will do it tastefully.

Interesting is the fact that while Nintendo's other franchises have 'families' to them (Mario and Luigi and Co., Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, Various other Races, the Star Fox crew, Kirby and that mouse, etc..) Metroid simply had 2 factions: Samus and the enemy. I would welcome the chance for a 3rd faction, whether be it friendly, neutral or hostile to Samus.

Multiplayer? Its as simple as turning auto aim off, no biggie, just gotta learn to aim.
Perhaps an optional Co-op LAN? That would spice things up if you have the gear.

WOOOOOT!!!! I feel all warm and fuzzy inside....
Capcom's smart to capitalize on our nostalgia but who can blame them?

Grey Ninja, if you never played it before, you won't get the twinkle in your eye like someone who did all those years ago. The nostalgia effect may not be there, but if you want to play a big piece of gaming history (No blowing cartrdiges) and see how games were back in the day, its worth a shot.

« on: September 10, 2003, 09:16:05 PM »
I gotta give props to Bill for at trying to spice things up: Where in the Blue hell is TEH LOUIE!!!!! It should be doing this job.

Rumors are fun to speculate, but while speculation doesn't bring you down, a juicy rumor you want be true but then isn't brings your down quicker than tranquilizers...

Oh, and Grey Ninja, a good rule of thumb (I'm sure you learned it by now) is never, EVER by a game just on hype. If it isn't your cup of tea (I believe you went on record saying you don't like FPS,), is the hype going to make it any difference?

Too Human? Where are you? I got a Scooby snack! (Where did THAT come from?)

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Soul Calibur 2 Discussion
« on: September 10, 2003, 08:43:28 PM »
Sometimes, you can't please them all.

One thing that irks me is how people brag they've mastered this charcter, that character, "pwnage with XXX..." Now I'm not going to call Bill a liar; I can't prove it with mere text. I'll take your word that you handle Talim like if she were your child. You're not like other sites (That shall rename nameless to protect the stupid) who have this psuedo-bravado with no way of backing it up...

Hopefully with the next round of the Console Wars, we'll see online play as STANDARD, or pretty close to it. So when the next punk says "I pwn you with XXX..." I can challenge him and make him cry to mommy (It burns mommy, it burns!!)

I'm probably one of the few Nintendo gamers who would've bought this whether Link was included or not. I love SC on Dreamcast, and I couldn't wait to play it with current technology.

Oh, I'm a XiangHua man myself (does that make sense?). Its a shame they toned down her Chinese daisy dukes from the original...

This has got to be the JUICIEST  rumor about Nintendo in a while. My mouth is simply agape....

Intresting story. I remember rolling into Gamestop in the afternoon the day it came out, picking up my copy and I saw all 3 versions behind the counter. The clerk said "no one's picked them up yet, and we have a few extra.." I found the experience anti-climatic..

On a side note, its intresting they make the press release today. 4 years ago, the Sega Dreamcast launched. I believe Soul Calibur was one of the launch titles. Creepy...

Well Fammy, if they putting in a preview disc with demos and cinamatics, I doubt we'll get a Mario Kart port. It'd be nice if the demos were these:

1. Metal Gear Solid:TTS
2.Pikmin 2 (Doubtful since it got pushed backed)
3. Various clips of Updated builds of games ie, Star Fox, RE 4, Sonic Heroes, Killer 7, Tales of Symphonia; but that's a stretch I guess. Oh well...

Well since the cats out of the bag I'll put up the link so you can read in its entirety *Looks around to make sure the PGC forum gods won't smite him*

His MAIN point was about how Nintendo Power has lost touch with its fans. It was a nice read, save for that blemish that was really uncalled for.

EDIT: Man I should've read the disclaimer. D'oh!

General Chat / PGC getting dissed?
« on: September 06, 2003, 09:44:02 PM »
What's shaking people. Before I begin, I'm asking the PGC Forum Gods not to ban me because I'm acting on my sense of right and wrong. What I just saw was in my opinon, very wrong.

While combing the 'net for Nintendo-related news, I came across an interesting editorial (I won't say the site out loud but here's a hint   Nintendo+Martial arts place

The second part was a well thought out editorial but what irked me was this:

While Other Leading Sites claim to offer content “24-7-365....Look for more information in the weekENDS to come."

Gee I wonder who's slogan is it? We all know trusty PGC has a dry on weekends, but hey this is a FREE site. These people don't get paid for doing this. They do this for the love of it.

Now I'm NOT asking to flame the writer, but just want some understanding. Why is there need for competition among fan sites? The information is free, why not share? Its what the internet's all about right? Why this 'mud slinging'? What has PGC done to offend thee? We're all friends here right?

Anyway, I just saw an unnessecary jab at its own people. If you're reading this and comb Nintendo news, you're bound to run into it. What's your take?
