Nintendo Gaming / Re: Call of Duty: World at War

Supposedly the team working on the Wii version of CoD is "a special team at Treyarch focused specifically on the Wii" who "live, eat and breathe Wii." (Read the rest of the interview Here) Sure. I would like to believe that, but I won't until I have reason to. There are rumors all over the internets about how 3rd parties are finally getting their sh*t together and going all out on the Wii because they realized that it's a completely untapped market and a viable console for hardcore games and so on and so forth etcetera etcetera. That's a bunch of bull to me because well, what the hell are they waitng for? The second coming? Or TGS? E3? Or should I say that trade show that no one gives a crap about anymore? I remember when May was creeping up and gamers the world over would get crotch tingles just thinking about E3. Seriously, just announcing something, maybe not everything but something, would raise stocks because the Wii is such a powerhouse. So I'll remain skeptical until the Wii gets the kind of respect that the PS2 commanded. Anything less is simply not worth the excitement because it's probably going to be a letdown.

Cynical, I know.

Fans defend the cutscenes because they're fans. However, I think most people become frustrated when a story in any medium drags. I've read books and watched movies where it was painfully obvious that the writer(s) and/or director simply fell in love with their own art. That's really the problem with Kojima's games. He's an excellent game maker, but a terrible storyteller. Not that he necessarily tells bad stories, rather he's very pretentious and long-winded. There's a roughly 27 minute conversation at the end of MGS4 which could've easily been less than 10. An effective narrative shouldn't rely on summary to ties up loose end. That's just poor writing.

I like Ready at Dawn, but I'd hardly call this significant. They've yet to make 1 original IP.
That's just what would make it so exciting: they could do it on the Wii.
They could. That doesn't mean they're going to. Let me know when they are and I'll go ahead and get excited.

9029
Do any of you realize how significant this is? This has got to be the first time since the age of Atari that Nintendo has managed to get a 3rd party to defect exclusively to its system.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Do you still love your Gamecube?
« on: June 08, 2008, 06:33:53 PM »
I was dumb enough to sell both my N64 and Gamecube though I eventually did re-buy them. They were great systems. I had a lot of fun with both. Gamecube may have had more variety than Nintendo 64, but Nintendo's own titles were just stronger and fresher on N64. I remember how I felt the first time I played Ocarina of Time. No game since has reached me as a gamer as much as Oot did. I still feel that the game is overrated, but it was just amazing game.

So yes, I still love my Gamecube, but I have fonder memories of my N64.

Famitsu lost some credibility after giving Wind Waker a perfect score. Additionally, Brawl got a perfect score while Super Mario Galaxy got a 38/40. Still an excellent score, however, I just think SMG deserved a perfect score more because while Brawl offered so much more than its predecessor, Galaxy offered something different which I appreciate more. Even if Brawl had 20 more characters/stages, I'd still give SMG a higher score.

Anyway, there's a MGS4 spoiler video on youtube that I couldn't help but watch. Still, it was a slideshow of images and very few of them were major spoilers while others could easily be taken out of context. Apparently, Ocelot is f-ing jacked under the spaghetti western get-up.

Does anyone still care? I get the feeling people want Duke Nukem Forever to come out just so they can bash it for taking so long to release. 3D Realms should have just formally canceled the game then picked up development when they were ready to work on it again. Now, people are just aching to see it fail.

I know I can't speak for everyone but I've purchased more games for the Wii in the year and a half since I've had it than in the first year and half of every other piece of hardware I've ever owned. Admittedly, I have more money now, but I have more bills to pay so it kind of balances out. Essentially, what that guy said is total BS. If there were more games I was interested in on the Wii, I'd probably have them already.
Ubisoft should be candid enough to say that they are choosing to target this particular kind of Wii owner with their lineup, rather than insinuating that they've somehow been forced into it because they're the only Wii owners out there to target.
Preach it.

9034
Maybe he'll get his chance to make Pikmin 3.

Tecmo is basically f-ed now. I wonder if Itagaki mentored anyone at Tecmo and even then, they don't have the fanbase or IPs to rely on.

I'm really looking forward to Wario Land Shake. I miss 2D games. Now if Konami will just announce that 2D Castlevania for the Wii....
For Wario Land, I just need to know if Nintendo is behind it.  Since Nintendo outsourced the last Wario game, "Master of Disguise" to Suzak, it was crap.  If Suzak is behind this one as well then we already know it'll suck.
I wouldn't mind if Treasure is behind the game. They've worked on a Wario game before (Wario World which was decent) and they're quite proficient in creating 2D games. Smoke39 mentioned Mischief Makers a few posts above which was also made by Treasure.

I just watched the trailer. I can't believe this game had or is having trouble finding a publisher. Even if the game sucks, they can cut the footage to make a good trailer/commercial and FPS starved Wii owners would eat it up.

I would love to see Dracula X Chronicles ported to the Wii though I can't even imagine the amount of flack Konami will get from Nintendo fans.... even though every 3rd party uses the Wii as a port dumping ground. For me though, it'd be yet another reason not to pick up a PSP... I'm waiting for Sony to announce God of War: Chains of Olympus for PS2.

On a side note, I still find it mindboggling that some Nintendo fans were so offended that Dracula X Chronicles was released on PSP. Konami released TWO completely original Castlevania games on DS versus ONE remake (plus ports) on PSP. Clearly, DS got the better deal.

There are supposedly 3 Castlevania titles in development (including OoE). If a 2D Wii title is announced, I would expect Nintendo fans to bellyache about how they can't swing Belmont's whip using the Wii remote. Or, if the PS3/360 version is 2D and the Wii game is 3D complete with motion controlled whip, Nintendo fans will complain that the 2D game is better suited for the Wii and they don't want crappy 3D Castlevania. Either way, Nintendo fans will blame Konami for screwing Nintendo over and will once again look like petulant children who are impossible to please.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Will the next Zelda game be an FPS?
« on: May 17, 2008, 03:00:41 PM »
I knew I wasn't the only one. There's only so much you can do with the same setting over and over again. Even if it's not in Hyrule (Majora's Mask), it's still the same goddamn thing. Zelda needs something COMPLETELY new, which means dragging it kicking and screaming out of the dark ages.
It's not that Nintendo can't do anything new with the same setting, they're just unwilling to do so. They're afraid of drifting too far away from their comfort zone. Even Phantom Hourglass was typical Zelda, except with a stylus.

I would like to see Nintendo try a new setting for the series. It doesn't necessarily have to be steampunk (though I still advocate the idea).

Maybe Zelda should be abducted by Bowser, and then Mario and Link have to team up to rescue her.
Hmm... this coming from someone who just posted...

One more change into FPS isn't really that different than those other pretty significant changes. If they can do it to Metroid and get away with it, then doing it to Zelda shouldn't be a problem.
Don't you think Nintendo, of all companies, would make it work? If you can see first person Zelda working, I really don't understand how a Zelda game set a few hundred years in the future is any more a stretch of the imagination.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Will the next Zelda game be an FPS?

The next Zelda game should GTFO of Hyrule as we know it now and jump forward a few hundred (or thousand) years in the future, to a steampunk or futuristic Hyrule.

I'd play it. All the Zelda fans would BAWWWWWWW until the end of days though.
I can't tell if you're joking, but I'd dig a steampunk Zelda. There's a lot Nintendo could do with the concept. Besides giving the series a new atmosphere and environment to work with, Nintendo would also gain a great opportunity to restart the franchise, especially in the story department. I can imagine a "futuristic" Zelda in which the Triforce, Link and Zelda have become legend and much of the game would involve finding out what happened way back in ancient Hyrule.

General Chat / Re: Nintendo Movie discussion 2

The thing is that Link actually is not a mute. He interacts constantly with everyone.
True, but the point is that Link has no spoken dialog. His responses to NPCs are user dependent (though Nintendo usually only gives you 1 real choice anyway). That can work in a videogame since Link is the avatar of the player. However, in a film, the audience does not have that same connection with Link. Can a film work when the main character doesn't utter a single work? Yes, it can, BUT there needs to be a reason why. He can't just not talk because the general audience would wonder why Link wasn't talking.

and a metroid movie would be awesome and very doable, the story already is fresh just by having a girl as the main character, even if she ends up as the generic blond bombshell Nintendo is trying to convert her in. There's a background story of revenge and all and it could work very well.
I wouldn't say that the story is terrible fresh. Nintendo basically just ganked all their ideas from the Alien films and ran it through an 8-bit filter though at least they paid homage to Ridley Scott. A Metroid movie could be awesome... but it'd take very capable hands to make it work. Honestly, I'd skip the origin story. Does anyone really want to watch young Samus talk to bird people for 20 minutes or longer?

Why is that? I am curious.  I love Castlevania...
The title screen was leaked in January and one of the options was "Wii." Unless that's been taken out since, Order of Ecclesia will connect to the Wii for some reason. The only thing that makes sense would be connectivity to a Wii game.

Well, it's official now.... though Konami did a terrible job keeping it a secret. Those leaked screens from January of a supposed mystery Castlevania game were, in fact, real (as if there was ever any doubt). This also basically confirms a Castlevania game for the Wii.

I'm glad that Sega is stepping up to the plate and publishing this game which reminds me of No More Heroes so I'm all for it. At the same time, a game like this has a pretty high chance of slipping through the cracks and going largely unnoticed. Sega really has to advetise the hell out it. Even though No More Heroes sold pretty well (in America), a lot of people have no idea what it is and that's a shame because they're missing out on such an amazing game. I'd hate for the same to happen to this game.

9045
There was no doubt in my mind that those images were fake. I was just commenting on how poorly constructed the rumor was.

9046
So the cocktease Kid Icarus Wii rumors are back, this time with some proposed artwork.... ironically showing Pit as a man... Kid Icarus featuring Pit as a man..... one of which clearly looks inspired by God of War.

Seriously, are the people who make up thse rumors even trying anymore?

There's a reason Link is mute in the games. In a movie, there'd need to be a reason why Link is mute otherwise, it'd seem forced, artificial and unnecessary.

I'm against the idea of following the plots of any of the games. Stick close to the source material and make an original story.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wii don't need a hard drive.
« on: May 07, 2008, 08:24:04 PM »
Hard drives are the path to the dark side. Hard drives lead to porn, and porn leads to suffering.

I sense much hard drive in you.
hahahahaha... Thanks for that. :)
The problem with this plan is that they need to fix the SD support FIRST.  I saw this because I'm sure that if they do enable external hard drives, they would just work like the current SD slot anyway.  They NEED to make it so the main wii menu can feed off of things other than its internal memory.  This is the first step.
Agreed. That's basically the more useful version of what I was getting at.

Storage space wouldn't be as big an issue if the SD expansion slot was more useful.

And I was pointing out that he makes his living selling products that don't work on Wii so his dung flinging and chest beating is natural, but Kojima is...well, a fruit bat. I've heard him say good things about the Wii as well, if I recall.
Well, I think either way, you have people who have never/rarely supported Nintendo platforms. That said, do their opinions really matter? Shouldn't they just, you know, shut up? And shouldn't Nintendo fans, you know, not care what they have to say because they haven't supported Nintendo in the past? I suppose you could argue that since Snake was in Brawl, Kojima somehow owes Nintendo, but Nintendo didn't have to say yes. Nintendo could've told Kojima to F-off and they'd be in the same exact position that they've always been in: with little to no support from Kojima and his team. I guess this really just shows that Nintendo is above childish name-calling and bashing. That or they got something in return that they haven't announced.

I'm trying to start a debate or anything, I'm just saying.
