General Gaming / RE: Looks like Capcom still hates money.
« on: February 19, 2007, 10:19:25 AM »
On the issue of Zelda difficulty, I agree with alot of what segagamer12 said.  If the people that complain about Twilight Princess would go back and replay the older ones they'd see that the older Zelda's were just as easy and some even easier.  The only reason Twilight Princess seems easier to alot of people is because they've already mastered playing 3d Zelda's so of course Twilight Princess is going to be easy since you know how things work and what to do.

I'd say Twilight Princess, while easy is actually the hardest of the 3d Zelda's because it contains the best puzzles of the series that require you to really think sometimes.  To me it's all about the puzzles that give the 3d Zelda's their difficulty.  The 2d ones got it from combat since they had some fast moving enemies that would just keep ramming you like crazy.

Here's how I'd rank all the Zelda's I've played in terms of difficulty.

1. Links Adventure
2. Original
3. Link to the Past
4. Twilight Princess
5. Majora's Mask
6. Links Awakening
7. Ocarina of Time
8. Wind Waker
9. Minish Cap

Well calling it the best 3d Sonic doesn't really mean much since all the other 3d Sonic games range from mediocre to complete sh!t.  The game just has to be decent to be considered the best 3d Sonic game.

This shows just how low Sega has set the bar for Sonic games.  Back in the Genesis days if Sega was to release a Sonic 4, the game would have to be of high quality or else the fans would be angry.  But now most Sonic fans will be happy if the game just barely passes as good.

It's a rather despressing fact.

I woudn't get my hopes up for the Fire Emblem and other games with lots of text.  My guess is Nintendo will bring over games like Mario and Wario, Mario Picross, Kirby's Super Stackers and other titles that have hardly any text to be translated.  Or something like the first Mother game because they DID translate the entire game and should have the english version somewhere at NOA headquarters.

The only way I see Nintendo releasing text heavy games is by charging at LEAST $20 for them.  Of course I'd happly pay that to finally be able to play Thracia 776.  The question is though, does Nintendo feel that enough people will be willing to pay that in order to justify spending the money to give games like that full english translations?

If I want to see examples of human stupidity I'll just go to the Next Gen Gaming board at Gamefaqs because it's pretty much the same thing as GAF, except easier to read since it's not cluttered with all those pictures and crap.  It even contains the same threads and many of the same people from GAF as well.

I think we'll have some new stuff to talk about soon.  I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo shows a new trailer at GDS which is only a month away.  My guess is Donkey Kong and Yoshi will be shown in this trailer.  Then all of the original eight will have been revealed for Brawl.

Then after that we'll have to wait until whatever the event is that's replacing E3 to finally see some hands-on previews.

According to Sakura, there's only going to be 1-2 more third party characters.  Now since Sonic is pretty much a guarantee, there's only room for one more.  And with Nintendo and Square-Enix having a very very close relation ship right now (Five Final Fantasy characters appearing in Mario Hoops and the Dragon Quest + Mario Itagaki Street game coming out), it's looking very clear that the last character is going to be from Square-Enix.

Plus the thing is the Castlevania series isn't very popular compared to alot of other third party series.  Snake got in because he's the star of Konami's most successful series that sells millions of copies.  And because of the Twin Snakes deal between Nintendo and Konami last gen, it provides a loophole that allows Snake to be in the game.  Even though they're using his design from Sons of Liberty which never appeared on a Nintendo console.

It's nice to see others share my same view of Microsoft.  Ever since I first read Microsoft was going to enter the videogame industry, my heart dropped because I knew that was the worst thing that could happen.

Microsoft is ONLY in the videogame market because they intent to create the same type of monopoly that they have in the PC market.  If people think that paying $600 dollars for the PS3 is expensive, you haven't seen anything yet.  If Microsoft was the leader then we'd be looking at paying $1200 for their system and that will be the cheapest crappiest model.  If you want the best version that has everything the system is supposed to have then your looking at over $2000.

Plus third party companies wouldn't be allowed to make anything creative.  All smaller companies would die out and only the big companies like EA would be left.  The only games we'd be seeing on the market place are the usual realistic FPS, racing and sports games that dominate the Xbox right now.

This is one of the reasons why I've very happy Nintendo will be getting all the 2d games this gen, we might start to see more progress in 2d games and maybe even a revival of some kind.

Under Sony's anti 2d policy, only the well known 2d series were allowed to be released in America, and even then companies had to jump through hopes just to get there games approved.  This is one of the reasons 2d gaming died on home consoles because companies weren't going to spend alot of money on making 2d games only to have Sony refuse to allow it's release.

But now with Nintendo, companies have nothing to worry about.  They're free to make as many 2d games as they'd like on the system and can actually release all of their games in North America.  And with them being able to release any game in North America, more companies might start spending the money again on going back into the 2d market since their games have a much better chance of selling now.

Damn I hope this turns out to be true.  I loved playing the older ones and it'd be great to finally be able to buy one.

Actually this shouldn't come as any real surprise though since the Wii is pretty much going to be the home for 2d fighters.  2d fighters only sell to a small niche fanbase these days, and since the Xbox 360 and PS3 cost way to much to develope for, the Wii is the only system companies can make money off 2d fighters with.

Plus Sony and Microsoft probobly wont even allow 2d fighters on their systems since both companies are obsessed with showing off their realistic HD graphics.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Nintendo online argument
« on: February 03, 2007, 11:22:30 AM »
The thing is, the amount of people that go online though is really only a very small percent.  The Xbox which was the system build to be all about online gaming, had only a few million people actually use it out of a userbase of around 24 million.  The PS2 did even worse with having sold over 100 million units, yet only a few million people using it's online as well.  That means only around 2-5% of the entire gaming public even cares about online.

More people went online with Nintendo's Wifi for the DS in it's first year, then went online with Xbox Live for the Xbox in it's first year.  The reason is simple, people dont want to have to pay for online gaming.

As long as it's free, that's all people are going to care about.  So if friend codes are going to only anger the 5% of the videogame public that actually cares about playing games online, then I dont see Nintendo changing there plans anytime soon.  And with most people not caring about online anyway, Nintendo doesn't really have a reason to change right now either.

If Nintendo was charging money like Xbox Live then all these complants would be valid, but they're not.  I dont see a reason to complain this much when we're getting online for FREE.  When somethings free, people can't really complain about the quality since it's not costing anyone a thing.

Even though I dont like the idea of friend codes either, if that's what it takes to get free online, then so be it.

OK, has Konami even looked at the PSP sales charts.  EVERY 2D game that has been released on the PSP has bombed badly.  What makes them think this will do any better?  The most this game will sell is 50,000, WORLDWIDE!!!

The Wii's software lineup for fall 2007 will have either Smash Bros Brawl or Super Mario Galaxy in it.  Either of those two games can easily compete with anything on the Xbox 360 or PS3.  Then there's the fact that Nintendo owns the Japanese market, which will ensure a good amount of Japanese third party support.  Plus Nintendo is also doing very well in America and Europe and will probobly surpass the Xbox 360 in both places.

Third parties showed last gen that the system that sells the most gets all the support.  To them it's larger userbase, more sales.  Even if some of these's companies games sold the best on the Gamecube, they still dropped support to focus on the PS2 because it had the larger userbase.  And since the Wii is going to have the largest userbase by the end of the year, we'll be seeing a huge amount of software coming out by the end of the year.

Well considering the PS2 was a horribly made system that broke way too easily, I wouldn't be surprised if alot of Sony's sales came from people having to buy a second or even a third PS2 because their old ones kept braking.

Hell I bet the amount of people that actually bought a PS2 is only around 70 - 80 million.

Ok, the thing I dont get is how people complain about New Super Mario Bros being too easy when Super Mario World was even EASIER.  I've always found Super Mario World to be the easiest Mario game and even after finishing New Super Mario Bros, it's still the easiest.  I still remember my first time playing through Super Mario World, I had over 50 lives by the time I got past the 4th castle.  It only took me about 3 days to find and complete all the levels my first time to.

Of course there's a simple reason for this, I grew up playing Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros 3 as a kid, and that was it.  Those two games were quite hard when I first played them but over the years as I grew the games got much easier to me.  When I got older and was able to find and buy the other Mario games I missed out on as a kid, I was able to easily beat them because playing the original and 3 for so many years had made me a master of Mario Platformers.  And because of that I have no nostalgia for most of the Mario games except 1 and 3.  All of the other Mario games I easily ripped through them on my first time of play and after playing through all of them including New Super Mario Bros, I find World to be the easiest.

Yet ever since New Super Mario Bros was released all I see is people attacking it for being too easy when World is by far much easier.  This proves nostalgia blinds many gamers and because of warm feelings for things they remember, they'll unfairly attack games for a problem that was in one of the so called "Classic" games as well.  It's just how people attacked Wind Waker for being too easy even though Ocarina of Time was just as easy.

And dont attack me for hating Mario World because I dont, it's actually one of my favorite Mario titles.

My top 5 Mario list

1. Super Mario Bros 3
2. Super Mario World
3. Super Mario 64
4. New Super Mario Bros
5. Super Mario Land 2

But I have no problem admiting that it was an easy game because I can't stand it when new games get attacked for being too easy when some of the older games in several videogame series where just as easy if not easier.  Gamers have to realise that they have gotten better over the years which is why games feel easier now then they did back then.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Naruto Shippuuden:Gekitou Ninja Taisen EX for Wii
« on: January 28, 2007, 11:25:31 AM »
We'll you know they'll release another Naruto game next year which will be better, like how the ones for Gamecube got better every year.  So if the Wii freeloader takes along time to come out I'd recommend waiting until they release Naruto Shippuuden: Gekitou Ninja Taisen EX 2, because it's usaully worth the wait.

Buy these yearly franchises every 2 years, that's what I say.  That's why I only bought Naruto 2 and 4 for the Gamecube since it works out the best this way, because the sequel will actually feel like a big improvement.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Official Wii Sales Thread
« on: January 26, 2007, 11:59:32 AM »
This is the reason why I said with full confidence when the Wii launched in Japan that Nintendo had retaken the Japanese home market.  The PS3 is just way to expensive for the average Japanese person to buy and has nothing in it's schedule that will make people want to buy the system until Final Fantasy XIII comes out.  And that wont be out until 2008.

By that time the Wii should have at least a 5-10 million system advantage in Japan and a majority of Japanese third party support locked up.

I'm going to say it right now, the PS3 will not break the 5 million mark in Japan.  Mark my words.

3846
Plus there's the fact that every single game except that Monster Hunter game that Capcom has released on the PSP has bombed horrible.  Majority of the games they've released on the PSP dont even reach 100,000 WORLDWIDE.

At least their Gamecube games actually brought in good sales.  Resident Evil Remake, Zero and Four all sold over 1 million copies worldwide EACH.  Plus the first Viewtiful Joe sold over 500,000 copies worldwide so Capcom at least had some success with the Gamecube.  The PSP on the other hand has been a miserable failure in software sales for Capcom and for them to keep supporting it when all their games keep bombing makes no sense.

Well considering the people at Sega are not very smart, they probobly never finished reading all of the stories from Arabian Nights and are just making things up as they go.

Hell I bet the only Arabian Night story Sega knows about is Aladdin and they probobly only watched the animated Disney movie instead of reading the actual story.

Yeah, the online part is what's going to take awhile.  I'd imagine they're having a hard enough time trying to get the thing running right with just two players and trying to get it out by the end of this year, so I doubt they'll be four player online.  If they were to go for four players this game woundn't be out until summer 2008 at the EARLIEST.

But then again to me Smash Bros is the most fun with a bunch of friends going crazy and trash talking each other while in the same room so I dont really care how the online turns out.

VG Cat is more of a hit or miss to me, when they actually do a comic right it's very funny, but when it's bad, it's really bad.

To bad they have more misses then hits.

I have been thinking for awhile now that Smash Bros could be coming out sooner then later.  By the looks of the trailer that played early November, the game looked like it has been coming along nicely.

Plus the game does have a huge development team, it's supposed to be bigger then the Mario Galaxy team.  This would allow a game like Smash Bros to be worked on alot faster since you can have one group working on characters and another group working on stages.  With alot of people working in each group development will go very quickly.

Plus since it's using a modified Melee engine that should be helping speed things up as well.
