Nintendo Gaming / Re: Official Wii Sales Thread
« on: October 02, 2009, 08:36:40 PM »
Those Wii hardware sales are from last week, the Wii's price drop in Japan didn't happen until October 1st which was yesterday.  So the effect of the Wii's price drop will not be seen until this weeks data is released next week.

Well to be completely honest, its just for amazon, so there is no telling how much was actually sold, or over what perion fo time they are comparing it to(since yesterday, over last month, last week, etc etc.).

& in similar news Excitebots sales jump over 92,500%!!!!!

Yay for percentages!!!

Holy Sh!t, Excitebots is now over 120,000%.  It just keeps risings.  :o

And I knew someone would come in and spaz out over that comment :p .

First of all, I didn't say ANYTHING negative about the roster in any of the SSB games. What I said is something that always happens whenever an SSB like game is released. First game is released, they leave out some characters so fans are left wanting more, the sequel hits, some of them made it in, and they include some characters no one wanted. In Melee they wanted characters like Pit and Wario in the roster, and instead they got Mr. Game and Watch and the clones. In Brawl, we finally get Pit and Wario, and we got ROB who no one wanted and lamented the loss of other characters (as an FYI, I love ROB and he's my third most used character, so no bitching about me hating him).

It looks like Ubi using that same strategy in Smash Up. If the game is a decent hit and they are given the opportunity to make a sequel they are likely to expand the roster by including some characters they left out the first time around, including of the fan favorites. Then when the game is missing X character they will leave fans wanting more and that's when the third game comes into play.

Again, not saying that the roster in Brawl was bad (talk about derailing the subject) or expressing my "hate" for the roster. Just stating that its a common practice in some fighting games to leave some characters out and include them in the sequel, and instead add un wanted characters to fill the roster.

The thing is with characters like Mr. Game and Watch and ROB, they actually have important history with Nintendo and make worthy additions because of that.  Even someone like Dr. Mario who was just a shameless clone at least had his own series of games and some importance with Nintendo history.  My problem with Turtles Smash is that they put in characters like Ultrominator and Nightwatcher who are very minor and have no real importance to the series, especially when someone like Ultrominator looks a lot like Krang who was a very important character in Turtles history.  It's like, why not put Krang in instead?

It's the characters I described above and the 3 Rabbids that really piss me off about this game.  If Ubisoft wants to save the popular characters for the sequels I'm fine with that, but they could at least fill up the roster with characters that are somewhat deserving.  There are so many good and somewhat famous minor characters throughout Turtles history that they don't have to include 3 non-Turtle related characters and nobodies like Ultrominator and Nightwatch to fill up space.

It would be like if instead of putting Dr.Mario, Pichu, and Roy in Melee, they put in Wing Cap Mario, Metapod and some generic enemy soldier from Fire Emblem.  Or instead of putting ROB and Wolf in Brawl, they put in a playable Powerglove and the train conductor from Macbeth.  It's one thing to have minor unrequested characters, but at least make sure they're somewhat deserving before you do.

2779

It seems Ubi is playing the same card as Nintendo; make a decent roster of characters, include some unwanted characters and leave the truly wanted characters for the sequel.

Oh give me a break.  For each Smash Bros, the majority of all characters deserved to actually be in the game and was a worthy addition to there series.  Just because you guys don't like certain characters, doesn't mean they weren't wanted characters and didn't deserve to be in.  Even someone like Wolf who you all hate was a pretty major character to his series.

With Turtles now, the roster is beyond a joke.  If the Smash Bros had a roster similar to this game, it'd be 95% Mario characters with something like 5 different version of a Goomba playable.  There's a big difference.

I think I heard that S-E actually considers it more major than FF13.

That's because unlike FF13, Crystal Bearers actually has a chance of making a profit.

« on: September 13, 2009, 03:11:07 PM »
The Werehog was added because it would just have been a 3 hour game otherwise and Sega didn't want to accept that.

This is why I don't see how Sonic Team is going to be able to make a proper 2d Sonic game.  They have a problem making short games so they pad them full of unnecessary crap like Werehog, or Treasure Hunting or even Fishing.  But the 2d Sonic games are all between 2-3 hours to complete though.

Considering Sonic Teams track record, I wouldn't be surprised if they end up introducing something non-Sonic related into this game as well just to eat up time once again.

I honestly doubt Sonic Team will get it right since they've been saying for years now that every Sonic game will take Sonic back to his roots and each time they fail.  Of course it quite simple why, the key people who made the old Sonic games no longer work at Sega and as a result, the current Sonic Team doesn't even know how to really take Sonic back to his roots.

For anyone that doesn't know, the creation of Sonic was the result of 3 men, Naoto Oshima, Hirokazu Yasuhara, and Yuji Naka, and all three are no longer with Sega.  Even though Yuji Naka loves to take all the credit because he's an asshat hack, Yasuhara is the man that is truly responsible for Sonic's greatness.  All Yuji Naka did was program the games, while Yasuhara was the guy that designed the actual stages the Genesis Sonics.  Of course Oshima also deserves a lot of credit since while he was only the character designer for the first Genesis Sonic, he would go on to become the director and stage designer for Sonic CD.

This right here is the main reason why Mario games are still just as good while series like Sonic have fallen.  The main people who made the Mario series like Miyamoto and Tezuka are not only still working and helping out, but also growing talent like Koizumi who was in charge of Galaxy's development and played the biggest role in that game.  So even if Miyamoto or Tezuka were to leave Nintendo, Koizuma has shown with Galaxy that he has the ability to keep the series going.

Sega on the other hand has no veterans to help guide Sonic Team, and they never bothered to really grow any new talent either.

Add EAD Tokyo as the developer, and I'm sold.

Well we have yet to see how exactly Yoshi will play in Mario Galaxy 2.  Maybe after Galaxy 2, they'll take the Yoshi mechanics from Galaxy 2 and make a full fledged 3d Yoshi's Island out of them.  Similar to how they took the Yoshi mechanics from World and expanded on them to make the original Yoshi's Island.

Not to mention it would make sense since the 3d Mario's have been following the same route as the 2d games.

Super Mario Bros = Mario 64
Super Mario Bros 2 (Both Versions) = Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Bros 3 = Mario Galaxy
Super Mario World = Mario Galaxy 2
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island = ???

So yeah, it's possible.

Saddly Big N is going win the console war this generation but I don't think it's going touch the PS2 of even the SNES numbers.  Just look at the monthly sales and the massive decrease from just one year ago and you'll see what I mean.

If your going to say statements like this, at least do some research.  At this point in the Wii's lifespan it's already several million units higher then the PS2 was at this point in it's lifespan.  Not to mention even though the Wii's sales the last several months are lower then last years, these low numbers are around the same numbers the PS2 was doing at this point in it's lifespan.

Plus I'd like to point out that at this point in the PS2's life, it was $180 in North America.  The PS2 launched at a $300 price tag and by it's third year was down to $180.  The Wii on the other hand launch at $250 and by it's third year is STILL $250.

People have to remember this little fact since Sony had to drop the PS2's price several times in it's life to keep it's high sales going.  Nintendo has yet to drop the price of the system once and yet it's still sold more at this point in it's life then the PS2 did and even at it's worst, it's still putting up the same numbers the PS2 did on average, even though the Wii is more expensive then the PS2 was at this point in it's life.

Plus I have to ask, why did you say the Wii wont touch the SNES sales in your post?  The SNES only sold 49 million units during it's entire life.  The Wii surpassed the 50 million mark months ago.  If your going to compare the Wii to another Nintendo home console at least pick the NES which sold over 60 million units.  Of course at the Wii's current pace, it'll easily surpass that mark sometime in the next year so you wont have long to use that either.

The best part about this announcement is it now says it's very possible for Nintendo to make deals with other publishers in the future to bring other license based games to the Virtual Console.

Hopefully this means Nintendo will eventually make a deal with Disney.  There were so many amazing Disney games released for the NES, SNES and Genesis that's it'd be a shame, no it's be downright CRIMINAL if none of them ever show up.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: PUNCH OUT!!
« on: August 10, 2009, 07:09:42 PM »

Yeah, considering that at the time Mike Tyson was a champion and very few games featured his likeness I am sure his appearance (and his legendary difficulty) drove game sales even further.

Exactly, people don't seem to remember just how big Mike Tyson was at the time this game came out.  When the original Punch-Out came out back in 1987, Mike Tyson was pretty much the most popular sports star at the moment.  His fights were all major events that people would go crazy over.

This is why it was any extremely smart move for Nintendo to make a deal with him for the original Punch-Out, because without Mike Tysons name attached to it, the original wouldn't have sold half of what it did.  That is how big Mike Tyson was back then.

TalkBack / Re: Suda 51: No More Heroes Series is Going Beyond Wii
« on: July 17, 2009, 05:10:45 PM »

But I'm not sure about Suda's actions here. If anything, it would've been much wiser to wait until after releasing NMH2 before declaring that NMH3 will be on another console.

Yeah, Suda might have just Viewitful Joe'd his series.  The first Viewtiful Joe had success on the Gamecube just like NMH did on the Wii.  But then Capcom got greedy and decided to port the first game to the PS2, before announcing Viewtiful Joe 2 for the Gamecube, which would also be coming to the PS2 as well.

Needless to say, the PS2 port of Viewtiful Joe bombed because PS2 owners didn't care for it, Viewtiful Joe 2 on the Gamecube bombed because Nintendo fans were pissed off.  And since PS2 owners didn't care for the first Viewtiful Joe, the second game did beyond terrible on the PS2.

So in the end, Capcom ended up killing the series because they underestimated the Nintendo fanbase and overestimated the so-called hardcore gamers on the other systems.  Suda seems to be doing the same thing, thinking that the HD owners will magically give him greater sales, even though there's no evidence that a game like No More Heroes would do any better on those systems.

Brood has a point, in fact many people IN NINTENDO didn't even know about Metroid: Other M.

Yeah, this is something Nintendo has always done.  Their own studio's are never informed with what the other studios are doing.  This is something people have to remember when they wonder why certain Nintendo games have features other ones don't.

Pretty much every Nintendo studio is it's own island that does it's own thing without any interaction from the other studio's.  Now there are some times where two studio's will help each other out on a certain game, but for the most part, each of them is isolated from the others.

TalkBack / Re: My Favorite Nintendo Character Part 1: Wario
« on: June 24, 2009, 05:55:34 PM »
After playing all the Wario Land games over the last year (except the Virtual Boy one since I don't own one), I can easily say the Wario Land series is the second best Platforming series behind only Mario himself, which really does make Wario the perfect rival to Mario.  This is thanks to the fact that Wario Land 2, 3 and Shake are three of the greatest games I've ever played.  Each of these three games is as close to Platforming perfection as you can get.  Everything about them is just amazing, from the level designs to the amount of platforming variety.

Of course the first Wario Land is also a great game as well.  Even though it's pretty much a Mario clone, it does the job quite well and delivers another great experience.  Then there's Wario Land 4 which is my least favorite of them, but even it manages to be a good game.

Seriously, any one here that's reading this and hasn't played any of the Wario Land games, get to your local used game store or ebay and by them ALL now.  If it has Wario Land in the title, you can't go wrong.  Of course remember it has to have LAND in the title or else you can go wrong.  Wario World is rather mediocre and is short in a bad way, and Master of Disguise will just make you want to cry.

Well according to some of the people who have said they played this game at E3, the levels that were in the demo seemed more challenging then the levels that were in NSMB DS.  So it looks like the demo play is already having a good effect.  Plus Miyamoto did say they were going to make Mario Galaxy 2 harder then the original, which leads me to believe that's thanks to this demo play as well.

So yeah, if this trend continues this demo play could end up having great results for all future Nintendo games.  They can make games more challanging for veteran gamers again, and not have to worry about inexperienced gamers getting stuck.  Plus since this demo play shows people what to do, it's a great way to make people better at games.

I mean, when growing up, I know alot of us watched either a friend or relative beat a game that you were unable to beat ourselves.  It was usually from watching them play, that it helped me eventually beat these games as well.  This demo play to me, is no different then watching someone beat something you can't and then learning from it.

If this game is indeed a reboot, then it looks like Dracula could actually be the main character.  The whole part about the main character in the trailer being willing to do anything to revive the women he loves just screams tragic hero who ends up going over too the dark side in the end.

Not to mention the whole line in the trailer about a "pure hearted warrior claiming the power of the Lords of Shadow as his own".  I seem to recall there are some storylines about Dracula that say he was originally a holy knight when he was still mortal and he became Dracula when he turned his back on God for some reason.

Plus since Kojima is involved with this game, we all know how he loves to makes villain not really villains in the end.  I wouldn't put it past him to make the main character turn into Dracula in the end and then make it seem like Dracula was really the good guy all along and that he's able to revive every 100 years because of nanomachines.

I wonder if this means Konami has canceled IGA's 3d Castelvania for the 360/PS3?  I mean, I don't see Konami funding two 3d Castlevania's for the HD systems at the same time considering the high cost of development for the 360/PS3.  Not to mention the last 3d Castlevania did quite poorly so there's no guarantee either game is going to be a hit, another reason why I don't see Konami allowing two 3d Castlevania's to be in development at once.

The game's not coming out for like a year.  Music will be one of the last things they work on.

Exactly.  People have to remember that the orchestrated music in Mario Galaxy wasn't finished until the very end.  Hell, the music that was used in the E3 trailer and demo for E3 2007, were still midi even though the game was only 4 months away from release.

The first time we even found out that Mario Galaxy even had orchestrated music was in October 2007 when it was revealed in an Iwata Ask interview on the game.  This was only 1 MONTH before the games actual release.  So the music right now should be the last thing people worry about.

Here's the interview with the developers of the game, which pretty much confirms Nintendo is playing a huge role in it's development.

http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?pager.offset=0&cId=3174587&p=44

In other words, this game should end up great since Sakamoto and his team are the ones in charge and directing the game and Team Ninja is pretty much there to do all the coding and graphics, since Sakamoto and his team have no experience with making 3d games.

OH SH!T, it looks like we have our megaton.

It's looks like that big Mario game that comes out this year could be a New Super Mario Bros game for the Wii.  Recent images from IGN have shown the Wii section, and right now there a big area with it's banner covered.  When you enlarge the images you can clearly see the outlines of Fire Flowers with boxes under one of the banners and under another, the words Super Mario Bros are clearly outlined with the font that Nintendo used for New Super Mario Bros title.

Damn, this is going to be one hell of a show if this is indeed true.
