When Miyamoto said the Wii's hardware couldn't handle the game online, he wasn't lying.  If you look at the amount of stuff going on in the later stages of this game, if this game was to be played with 4 players online, the lag would be so ridiculous it'd make Brawl's online look flawless.

In a Mario platformer like this where you're forced to make tricky jumps and avoid lots of enemies, you just can't have any lag, period.  I've seen some of the later stages in this game and the way these stages are designed and the amount of stuff going on, even the smallest amount of lag would make some of them virtually impossible to play.

This is what the people who are b!tching about no online need to realize.

Good god that IGN review is terrible.  So according to Craig Harris, New Super Mario Bros Wii is the greatest 2D Mario ever made but because it doesn't have online, something no other Mario game has ever had, he gives it an 8.9 just to be an ass hat.  Not to mention Craig is the same guy who gave New Super Mario Bros DS a 9.5 back in 2006.  Yet in this review, he says that New Super Mario Bros Wii is a better game then New Super Mario Bros DS.

So by Craig's logic, a 8.9 is greater then a 9.5.

And before someone says it's the review that's important and not the score, the scores should at least make some sense with what the actual review says.  To say that NSMBW is the greatest 2d Mario game ever made and better then the previous 2d Mario that the same guy gave a 9.5 to only 3 years earlier, but then give it a 8.9 because it lacks something no other Mario game has ever had before is just beyond stupid and pathetic.

So two games with no chance of a North American release?

Hotel Dusk 2 is guaranteed to come here since the original did quite well in North America.  People fail to realize that Another Code Wii didn't come to North America because the DS game did poorly over here.  This is why the game came out in Europe because Another Code for the DS actually did OK over there.

Dynamic Zan on the other hand is anyone's guess since it could make it over like Endless Ocean did, or not like Disaster.  It all depends on if NOA feels that the game could be successful in North America.

So according to the spoilers, this game really does give you a great reason to find all the Star Coins.

The Star Coins are used to unlock the levels in World 9.  World 9 opens up after you beat World 8, but the levels themselves are locked.  In order to access level 1, you need to find all the Star Coins in World 1, in order to access level 2 you need to find all the Star Coins in World 2 and so on.

Well here we go people.  The game has been leaked and music and spoilers and music are already hitting the web.  Anyone that doesn't want to be spoiled might want to get of the internet for the next week because the floodgates have opened.

LuigiDude - Nintendo games still sell to everyone!

Throw in some third party numbers and then you'll be joining what we're talking about.

It doesn't matter if the games are from Nintendo, the point is they're traditional games that traditional gamers play and they're selling very well on the Wii.  This is the same BS that people said about the Gamecube when third parties neglected it so of course the Nintendo games sold the best.  Of course when a high profile third party game, Resident Evil 4, finally came out, it ended up being the best selling Gamecube game the year it came out.  Outselling all of Nintendo's own first party software that year.

The only high profile third party traditional game to be released on the Wii so far that's not a low budget spinoff or port is Monster Hunter 3, and last time I checked, it's sold over 900,000 copies in Japan, which makes it the highest selling 3rd party title released on a home console in the Japanese market this gen.

Oh and I got another nice example for the "blame the Wii" crowd.  You guys love to point to Madworld as an example of Wii gamers neglecting certion games, but you all fail to remember that Madworld is the spirital sequel to God Hand on the PS2.  God Hand on the PS2 came out when the PS2 had a much larger userbase then the Wii does now, and yet the game only sold between 40-50K copies total.  Madworld on the Wii managed to sell over 60K it's first month.

Once again, if third parties would actually take the time to release high profile games that have actual appeal, then they'd do well.  Monster Hunter 3 has already proven this, even Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition proves it as well considering it's a several year old port that's already sold around the same amount of copies as the original Gamecube version.  Imagine if Capcom would have released a Wii Edition of Resident Evil 5 as well, it would have been guarenteed to be a million seller.

Hell, even the niche games like Madworld that are considered failures by the gaming media still end up doing better then they did on the PS2 last gen.

I think it's probably likely that the number of traditional gamers playing traditional games on Wii might even be smaller than the number who played on Gamecube.

Wow, this statement is so false my headhurts.  You do realise that pretty much all of Nintendo's major traditional game series have done better on the Wii then on the Gamecube.

Smash Bros Brawl has sold close to 9 million copies which is already over 2 million more then Melee's 7 million lifetime total.

Mario Galaxy has sold close to 8.5 million copies which is 3 million more then Mario Sunshines 5.5 million.

Mario Kart Wii has been a monster, selling close to 18 million copies which is 11 million more then Double Dash 7 million on the Gamecube.

The Wii version of Twilight Princess has sold close to 5.5 million copies which is 1 million more then Wind Wakers total of 4.5 million.  Of course it also be noted that the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess sold 1.5 million copies.  This means if there wasn't a Gamecube version of the game, the Wii version would have put up even higher numbers.

Super Paper Mario has sold over a million more copies then the Gamecubes Paper Mario, Mario Strikers Wii sold over 500,000 more then the Gamecube version, Fire Emblem Wii also did better then it's Gamecube version.  The only Wii game that has sold less then one of it's Gamecube counterparts is Metroid Prime 3 which is 1 million less then the first Metroid Prime.  But it needs to be noted that Prime 3 has sold somewhere between 200-300K more then Prime 2, which makes Prime 3 more successful then one of it's Gamecube counterparts.

Hell, even lower profile Nintendo games have done quite a bit better.  According to the NPD, Wario Land Shake came out at the end of September last year, and managed to sell 150,000 copies by the end of December.  In comparision, Wario World on the Gamecube came out at the end of June 2003 and never even broke the 100,000 mark by the end of that year.

So yeah, people have to cut the crap that less traditional gamers own a Wii then a Gamecube when the actual data shows the complete opposite.

What secret message? I watched it and I didn't see anything special.

The secret message is during the video when they show the select a file screen, the save file says World 9.  All the info Nintendo's released before this has said that there's only 8 Worlds in the game.  This means that there's a secret World 9 in the game.

I'm talking about games with little to no publisher support. How hard to those bomb? 500 copies bomb or what?

Yes, yes they do.  There were games released on the PS2 last gen that sold less then a thousand copies as well.  I remember reading a topic about it either back in 2004 or 2005.  Somebody with NPD data access posted sales numbers for some of the lowest selling games and you had several PS2 games that sold in the hundreds.  I don't remember the names to any of them because they were no name games I never heard of before, but then again, in a year from now Spyborgs is going to be a no name game nobodies ever heard of and forget about as well.

This is why once again, the criticism people do on the Wii is beyond stupid when the same damn things happened with the PS2 last gen.  Spyborgs was a no name game that nobody knew anything about that bombed, just like many no name PS2 games did last gen.  It's failure is comparable to quite a few PS2 games that put up numbers just as bad.

Plus you know the worst thing of all they'll do, not even play the entire game and then dock it points for being too short.

It's going to be like Wario Land and Jungle Beat all over again.  Reviewers will take the quickest path to the end of the game and after they beat the final boss, complain that the game is only 5 hours long.  Even though Wario Land and Jungle Beat both had hidden levels and added challenges like finding all the treasure chest or platinum medal that added many hours of additional gameplay, a lot of reviewers never even mentioned this and still said the games were only 5 hours long with no replay value.

Watch as the same thing happens with this game.  They'll just take one path to the end and ignore any optional stages, not bother to even try and find all the Star Coins, and then say the game is too short.  Even though everything they skipped adds about 20 more hours of overall gameplay.

This year's annual Digital Contents Expo will be held from October 22 through October 25 in Tokyo's Odaiba area. A part of the CoFesta series of events, this event offers visitors a chance to see the latest in digital contents technology through exhibits highlighting recent research and artwork. It's split into a number of sub events, including ConTEX, Asiagraph, International 3d Fair, and Digital Contents Grand Prix.

That's all swell, but here's the real area of interest for gaming fans. Set to give the keynote to commemorate the opening of Asiagraph is none other than Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto! The creator of Mario and savior of the modern game industry and, indeed, the world, will speak about his game production work over the past 30 years.

Miyamoto's speech will be held at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (the same venue as last month's Final Fantasy XIII Premiere) on the 24th starting at 13:30.

Are Nintendo gamers really that spiteful that they would _hope_ they can brag to non Wii owners about a game they can't play?  And then, be genuinely upset or panicked if that bragging possibility goes away?

Yes, they are.  Probably has something to do with all the games on the PS2/PS3 and Xbox/Xbox 360 that have never been on a Nintendo console.

Oh give me a break, Microsoft and Sony fanboys are just as bad.  Do I need to bring up the meltdown that happened when Final Fantasy 13 was announced to no longer be PS3 exclusive?

The thing that people need to remember is in the NES Mario games, it's pretty easy to die 8 times really fast.  Back when I was a kid playing Bros 3, the later Worlds were filled with certain levels that I'd end up spending hours on.  Hell, some of the World 8 levels in that game can make you easily die 8 times in less than 2 minutes.

People don't give up playing a certain game because they die too many times, it's because they don't like spending a lot of time at a certain part.  The problem with most modern games is the fact that they give players so much health and make levels so long that even if you play badly it can take over 10 minutes just to die.  In which case if you die 2 times, you just spent over 20 minutes at the same place which is why they quite.

So yeah, it just comes down to the fact again that people don't want to spend 20-30 minutes playing the same thing over again.  If New Super Mario Bros Wii is around the same difficulty as Bros 3, then poor players will being dieing 8 times and using the Super Guide in 3 minutes tops.  Even todays inpatient gamers is willing to spend 3 minutes on something.

Edit: Well I just read the MTV link and if the game is as hard as he says it is then it just proves my point.  If this game is indeed truly difficulty then dieing 8 times will go by really fast.

Well now it's been confirmed.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/first-epic-mickey-details-spilled

Quote
Epic Mickey is a tale about the 'forgotten' Disney stars: the rides, the characters, the lesser-known cartoons. When nobody any longer cares, they are cast into a dark void; a forgotten world of broken machines and bitter personalities - a bit like Sid's bedroom in Toy Story, but without the friendly furnishings.

This forgotten world is run by Oswald the Rabbit. He was Disney's first creation, made long before Mickey Mouse, and his jealousy of the newcomer has fermented for years. Now, finally, Oswald is ready for revenge.

He unleashes The Phantom Blot to wipe out Mickey and his cartoon world. The Blot pollutes the Disney universe with sticky black ink that makes colours run and fade (as seen on the Game Informer cover), so it's up to Mickey to restore peace and order. And this is where his tools come in.

Mickey has to draw and scribble his way through levels, mending broken bridges by applying the right colour paint or peering through walls after applying thinner. He can even clear rubble from his path by erasing parts of the world.

Will the demo mode be available in the multiplayer? I assume it is only for the single player. My sister would probably like to play this game with me but she does not like difficult games, so it would be nice to use it for the parts she can't get past.

According to the article, this mode will only be available in Single Player.

Also that the story was about old characters getting revenge on Mickey.

A lot of people are speculating that the main villain could be Oswald the Rabbit.  For anyone that doesn't know, Oswald was Walt Disneys original creation that he made before Mickey Mouse.  Since he made it while working for Universal Studios, Universal owned the rights to the character.  It wasn't until 2006, that Disney would get the right to Oswald the Rabbit back from Universal.  They traded sportscaster Al Michaels to NBC, in order to get the rights to Oswald back.

So considering how Disney really wanted Oswald back and he was Walt Disney's original creation before Mickey, I'd put good money on him being the final boss.  Hey maybe he'll merge together with Walt Disney's frozen head and become Giga Oswald the Walt Rabbit.  :o

Ah Damnit, I just made my own topic and was about to post it.  Then I refreshed my browser and see that you posted this while I was making mine.  >:(

Oh well, I'll just post what I had in mine.

Well even though it has been rumored for months now, GameInformer has now confirmed it.  Epic Mickey is an exclusive Wii platformer that seems to take a twisted take on Disney.

Oh and I should mention that the reason everyone is excited about the game is because Warren Spector is in charge of the project.  In case anyone doesn't know who Warren Spector is, read his Wiki page and then you'll see there's good reason to be excited for this game.

Well it looks like now no body has any right to complain about the games help feature.

http://kotaku.com/5374432/kind-code-demo-shows-new-super-mario-bros-on-auto+pilot

In case anyone is to lazy to click on the link, what happens is when you die eight times in a level, a green box will appear at the beggining.  If you hit this green box, a computer-controlled Luigi will appear and go through the level on his own.  During this time the player can take control of Luigi anytime on there own if they want.  Oh and this computer Luigi will only take the basic path to complete the level.  Any secrets that might be in the level, the computer will not show you.

So unlike what some people originally thought, the game actually encourages the player to play the game and people can't just use the help feature to skip to the end without even playing the levels.  Plus even if they do use it, they won't be able to truly complete the game since this feature doesn't show any of the hidden secrets that Mario fans love to find.

Plus like others have said, the levels in this game look harder then those in the DS New Super Mario Bros.  Which once again shows that this feature was a great thing since it seems like it allowed Nintendo to make the game more challenging, while still making it accessible for less skilled players.

2775
I wouldn't get my hopes up just yet.  What's scheduled for Thursday is one of Nintendo's monthly retailer briefing in Japan, which they have every month.  Last month they had one and that's when they announced the release date for Sin and Punishment 2 in Japan.  I'd imagine that during this one they'll announce the release date for New Super Mario Bros Wii since they haven't given that game a release date in Japan yet.

Now the previous October conferences were pretty much one of these retail briefings as well, so it's possible that we will get big megatons this year as well.  Of course in the previous years they also had an event planned the same day in America in which they invited members of the gaming media to attend.  This year there is no such event taking place in America which makes me wonder if what's going on in Japan might not be that big this year.

So it's important not to get too excited or else your hype train could easily crash.
