As long as it's released in Europe like the FF2 remake, we'll at least get it in America via eShop.  As we've seen with the 3DS, NOA has no problem releasing certain niche games as digital only, so as long as a translated version of the game gets made, we'll get it this time.

Well maybe Sakurai isn't going to go clone crazy this time.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bsp5iI2CUAA478W.jpg

According to what people who say they've translated this from Sakurai's latest Famitsu article, Lucina was originally an alt for Marth, but a certain character got cut during development and he decided to make her a clone instead because she was the quickest to make to replace the cut character.

So if this is indeed the case, other characters who we thought could be clones now will probably still be alts then.

Well Sakurai just revealed on Miiverse that Lucina is not an alt for Marth but an actual selectable character.  It turns out she's a Melee style clone who shares the same animations and every attack, but each attack has different strengths since her sword shares the same power throughout instead of Marth who has his strongest attacks at the tip.

His exact quotes.

Quote
Pic of the day. Along with Robin, Lucina joins the battle!! Her physical ablilites are identical to Marth's--it must be in her D.N.A. However, where Marth's power is concentrated in the tip of the sword, Lucina's attack strength is balanced throughout the weapon, which might make her easier to control. She's also a little bit shorter than Marth.

Quote
With the Wii Fit Trainers, the male and female Robins, the Villagers, and Little Mac, varying their appearances and voices works just like selecting alternate color variations. However, whenever there is even a small difference in abilities, that character gets an actual roster slot. That is why you can select Lucina individually.

Of course the way he says the last one pretty much makes it sound like several other clones like this are in as well.  Looks like we're about to get a pretty damn big character select screen this time.  If Fire Emblem is getting 4 characters on the select screen, then quite a few other franchises are going to get their roster bumped up thanks to clones as well.

Holy ****, we could literally be looking at a Marvel vs Capcom 2 sized roster if Sakurai goes crazy with these clones, which he easily could since ones like Lucina are very easy to make.

TalkBack / Re: Miyamoto Explains Upcoming Wii U Zelda's 'Open World'
« on: July 14, 2014, 04:44:44 PM »
Sadly this description of the "open world" concept doesn't sound as exciting to me.  It sounds more like A Link Between Worlds applied to a console game rather than a Nintendo's unique take on Elder Scrolls or GTA.  Miyamoto's description just sounds so much more subdued than the more vague E3 description.

Yeah that was never going to happen.  That's basically asking for a Zelda in name only if you turn it into one of those games.  At the end of the day, this game was always going to be a Zelda game because that's why people buy these games in the first place.  Doesn't mean they can't still do a a lot of unique things with the open world design to really change up the structure which Miyamoto is talking about.

You know, with Captain Falcon also being shown along with Robin and Lucina, does anyone else get the feeling Sakurai is going to show all the characters before the games release?  We already had 2 Fire Emblem characters shown before today, and Sakurai had no problem leaving Captain Falcon hidden in Brawl.  Robin and Lucina (even if an alt for Marth), could have been some kind of unlockable to get in the game as well.  Revealing all this information now when he doesn't have to show this much, kind of points to that.

As we all know from his trolling, Sakurai understand the internet and message boards really well.  I'm sure he saw with Brawl how some stores in Japan broke the street date and released it a few days early and less then 24 hours later, the entire roster with pictures and movies of them were all over the internet.  I wouldn't be surprised if this time he's like "**** It", the entire internet is going to get the roster spoiled for them days before release anyway, so he wants to be the one to do all the spoiling this time.

I mean before today, we only got new reveals during Nintendo Directs.  Well know that Sakurai has no problem revealing new characters and trailer on the main site without a Nintendo Direct, who's to say he doesn't have a few more of events like today planned in the next few months?

It is kinda funny that Chrom ended up the odd man out here and as a result this... kinda breaks the Gematsu leak, which from what I'm guessing is probably an insider who ended up getting relieved of this position over at Bandai Namco VERY early on in the game's development and that his information is outdated.

That does seem like the case.  For Greninja the leaker only said a Pokemon from X/Y, which as we found out at the E3 roundtable, Sakurai picked Greninja because he liked the characters design when he was shown the early X/Y designs, and that Geninja didn't even have an official name yet.  The leaker also said recently around E3 that there was debate about if Lucas should be cut or not.  Something like that would have been happening much earlier in development when they were deciding what resources would be spread out, not a few months ago when the game is in the final stages of development.

As we know from Brawl, they plan all the characters at the beginning and then make cuts from there.  I wouldn't be surprised of Chrom was planned early on, but then Sakurai realized what many of us did that 3 blue haired Fire Emblem sword using lords taking up the character select screen is too much.  So they cut Chrom in favor of using Robin who actually represented the player in Fire Emblem, and allows for the use of magic attacks, making them a much needed unique Fire Emblem character.  They probably took the Chrom model they worked and decided to use it for Robins Final Smash since why let a character they worked on go to complete waste.

So yeah, Chrom is probably the special case where he was originally going to be playable but got changed.  For Shulk and Chorus Men, I don't see them getting cut since they represent new franchises for Smash Bros with completely unique movesets.  Plus as we saw from the Smash Run demo, there's a Rhythm Heaven ghost enemy in it which means a Rhythm Heaven character is playable.  Of course Sakurai might have the Chorus Men in favor of a different Rhythm Heaven character, but either way, we're getting some kind of crazy Rhythm Heaven character that I expect to be insanely awesome.

Well seeing that Lucina only gets a small box on the official website instead of a larger banner like the completely unique characters and her moves in the video look identical to Marth, I think it's safe to assume she's an alt for Marth.

So yep, looks like some characters becoming alternate characters with different voices is indeed happening.  So Docter Mario should pretty much be a guarantee by now and Daisey being a Peach alt should happen as well.  The Palutena trailer also makes Dark Pit as a Pit alt pretty obvious as well.

Well the dream of different alternate customs for characters with some of them being different characters is now a reality.  Looks like we won everyone.

Event happens

Sakurai proving once again why he's the king of trolls.  Hell I wouldn't be surprised if he was the source being the leak in the first place just so we think we know who might be revealed only for him to pull something like this.

Right now Shulk is the odds on favorite to be shown out of the three characters left in the leak.  Since Ike was shown just two months ago it seems too early for another Fire Emblem character like Chrom, and the Chorus Men seem more like the weird Game & Watch/ROB character Sakurai might want to wait until the Japanese release in September since Rhythm Heaven series is by far more popular in Japan.

Of course, once again the leaker never revealed Rosalina so there could be another new character that no one knows about ready to be shown.  Either way, Monday is going to be crazy.

I've heard from DW fans that if you play them on the harder difficulties the games aren't as repetitive because the normal enemies actually fight back so you have to actually have some skill now instead of just mindlessly mashing attack over and over like on the lower difficulties.

I've never played a game for the series so I don't know if this is true or not, but that's what the hardcore fans of the series always say.

If the tournament players didn't matter to Sakurai he wouldn't have designed a whole multiplayer mode for them. He may not be basing the whole game around them, but he's certainly paying attention to what they want.

All that multiplayer mode does is makes a plain, flat surface to each stage with it's default background behind it.  Yes, he's throwing them a bone but it's a very simple mode to create which took up hardly any resources.  Big difference between giving them something smaller like that, compared to removing a more unique character like Wolf who would offend a larger amount of the general Smash Bros audience in favor of a more redundant character like Falco who's removing would affect much less.

Calm down.

Jeez...

Well it's rather annoying how so many people still consider Wolf to be this terrible redundant clone who needs to be removed at all cost, while they can't stop jerking off over Falco who's the way more redundant of the two.  Yes, I understand the disapointment people had that he was the final character revealed in Brawl but it's been over 6 years since then and we're getting a new Smash Bros with new characters again, this hatred for him has to stop.

Nice to see that 80% of the NWR staff are complete idiots who think Falco is returning but Wolf isn't.  Seriously, get your fucking tournament bullshit out of here, because that doesn't mean **** to Sakurai.  The fact all the impressions for the new Smash Bros say it plays closer to Brawl then Melee already makes that point extremely clear. Doesn't matter if Falco is loved by a small group of tournament players because he's top tier, Wolf is the character that would take priority over him.  Wolf is the way more unique character of the two, and is an actual villain which gives the roster more variety.  Hell, Sakurai even stated one of the biggest reasons for Wolf getting in was because he wanted more villains in the games roster.

You remove Falco, the roster doesn't lose any variety and it's easier for his fans to play as Fox since Falco still shares most of the same attacks and is a similar speed and weight class.  You remove Wolf, the roster loses variety and it's impossible for his fans to play as Fox since 95% of his attacks are completely different and he's a completely different speed and weight class.  Doesn't matter if some of you were angry he was the last unlockable in Brawl, he ain't getting removed before Falco.

TalkBack / Re: Iwata's Approval Rating Up, Miyamoto's Down
« on: July 05, 2014, 04:45:58 PM »
In terms of actual game development, Iwata is indeed the best president out there.  Despite having some terrible fiscal years, he hasn't shut down a single development studio, something that no other major gaming company can say the same.  He also treats his developers well, which is why we haven't seen a mass exodus of Nintendo devs like what's happened to companies in the rest of the industry.

Hell, the last major developer to leave Nintendo was Sakurai in 2003 which Iwata fixed by getting him back in 2005, by having him brought to his personal hotel room during E3 that year.  How many other company president are bringing developers to their hotel rooms to make them happy.?

TalkBack / Re: Iwata's Approval Rating Up, Miyamoto's Down

Yeah the majority of Nintendo's shareholders are Japanese who only care for whats happening in the Japanese market.  On the internet, Iwata gets most of the hate for not making a home console as powerful as the PS4 but in Japan, the home console market is basically dead.

If Iwata was to ever get fired, he wouldn't be replaced by Mr. Hardcore who'll make Nintendo release the most powerful home console ever made that makes the PS4 look like the PS1 in comparison, and fill it with 100 million plus AAA games every single month.  No, Iwata's successor in such a situation will make Nintendo drop out of making consoles period, and devote all resources to smartphone development.

Once again, everyone who want's Iwata fired needs to look at SquareEnix, Capcom, and Konami to see what happens to large Japanese gaming companies that have CEO's who are slaves to what the shareholders want.

Miyamoto's official job is Senior Managing Director, General Manager - Entertainment Analysis & Development Division and Representative Director.  That means he's the guy responsible for overlooking all of Nintendo's game development studio's and making sure things are running smoothly.

The reason his rating has fallen is because Miyamoto was the guy most responsible for making sure Nintendo's studio's were ready for HD development.  When Nintendo has publicly admitted to the Wii U having these huge gaps because there studio's are having trouble with HD development, that's why some shareholders aren't looking too kindly on Miyamoto.  He was suppose to know the problems the rest of the industry had with early HD development and made sure Nintendo's studio's would be properly prepared, which the huge gaps that the first half of 2013 and 2014 show, he clearly didn't.

I can't believe they are making Kirby more powerful.  I always thought Kirby was one of the stronger characters in all the games.  Brawl he was perhaps weaker.

Kirby was only one of the strongest in the N64 game.  In Melee he was one of the worst where his attacks were way too weak combined with his lightweight status made him basically worthless in that game.  Brawl buffed a lot of his attacks which made him a decent character again but he was still no where close to as strong as his N64 counterpart.

Well beside the Wireframe alt, Little Mac now has his pink hoodie alt as well which is a full custom change instead of simple recolor like Link's Skyward Sword alt last week.

I'm starting to think Sakurai just hates the Zelda series at this point.  Well the dream is still alive for non Zelda characters at least. :P: :

Edit: Of course come to think of it, maybe Link could still have some kind of alternate custom that Sakurai hasn't shown yet that is a full custom change.  Little Mac's Wireframe alt is technically a recolor (a really good one but the overall model is still the same) as well while this new one is the first real full model change with new clothing for Mac.  Maybe every character will get one full alternate custom that's different while the other ones are just simple color changes like previous games.  Sakurai might have felt the Skyward Sword model wasn't important enough to get a full change but there could still be another Link custom from a Zelda game that will get the full alternate treatment like Mac just got.

So the dream is still alive for everyone again, even Zelda characters.

Gaming as a medium is evolving to compete with movies and television. If there is one lesson Nintendo should take away from the last generation, it's that gaming is driven by the passion of the players. Sometimes having nothing more than fun with a game isn't enough; people want fall in love with it. Pure gameplay experiences with quirky visuals aren't always enough to sell a system. Gamers want something or someone whom they can relate. Skyrim became the first Elder Scrolls game to break into mainstream media because it created a believable fantasy world in which people could invest themselves. Mass Effect earned a large and devoted fanbase by populating their universe with thoughtful lore and interesting characters. Nintendo franchises in the current era have struggled to tap into those kind of devoted fanbases. The new Zelda, however, has the potential to remedy that. Nintendo has a chance to make a world that we can fall in love with, and in turn, be excited by... and that approach needn't be confined to the new Zelda.

And this line of thinking has caused budgets to increase like crazy and put studio's out of business like never before.  I'm sorry but what you are advocating for is the real cancer that has been killing the industry since last gen.  Most of the games despite creating these big epic tales that are suppose to get the players emotionally invested, have storylines that are still terrible.  You cited Mass Effect, which is a bad example considering the complete train-wreck the storyline of that series became in the end.  Plus Skyrim was the first Elder Scrolls to have mainstream success because it had a 100 million dollar marketing campaign which was higher then any previous game in the series by far and they dumbed down the core gameplay to make it more accessible to a wider audience as well.

It's one thing to want a Zelda game that gives a more emotionally invested story, but using the likes of Naughty Dog, Bethesda, Irrational Games, and Bioware as examples are the wrong way for Nintendo to do it since it involves spending way too much money on something that doesn't even improve the quality of the stories, but makes the already poor storylines even longer and more bloated then before.

I'd rather Nintendo spend the majority of the budget on the gameplay which is what the series has always been most famous for, and not waste a lot of it on the storyline and setting, resulting in a dumb down produce like Skyrim just so people can live in an interactive movie.
