Nintendo Gaming / Mario Kart LAN
« on: April 23, 2003, 07:10:42 AM »
I am in a LAN clan, we have around 12 usually, I can see fights breaking out over this, since we have GCNs, controllers and WILL get the adaport and MK.  Maybe one GCN will have TS2 and two will do MK.

Nintendo Gaming / Will the big N merge (OR BUY)?
« on: April 19, 2003, 06:28:42 AM »
The problem with a Nintendo-Sega merger is, who in hell would want to compete with that on one system.  Thrid parties could kiss sales goodbye.  Gamers only have so much money.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo GameCube Expansion
« on: April 14, 2003, 01:48:22 PM »
I was under the impression that the N64 memory add-on was relativly successful.  Quite a few games that required it sold very well.  I was never a fan of add-ons, I tend to prefer buying games rather than more and more ways to play them.  I am one of those kids that gets every ounce of space out of his memory cards and such.  Nintendo seems to be putting out  useful add-ons lately.

Nintendo Gaming / The Gamecube Points Challenge
« on: April 06, 2003, 01:48:03 PM »
Well, that handle is great.  I love the size of everything as well.  I carry my GCN all over the place to friends houses and such and the size of the games, cards, system and such have been a huge savior for me.  Does Nintendo really count as a point, since they make such amazing first party games and Microsoft and Sony don't really offer that same support for their own console?  I won't even enter into the debate of who is more revolutionary, but I will submit the fact that many games for GCN are decidedly different from the offerings for other systems, in the vein of the style switch of Zelda and the interesting changes made to the Mario univers.  To me, this is a point.  Connectivity to the GBA also is a point fo rme, seeing as how they have both systems out anyhow, why not add in some connectivity and give gamers bonuses.

On the PS2 side, the RPG support is unparalleled, this is definatly a plus to those of us who eat sleep and drink RPGs.  The Ps2 also has an increadible amount of 3rd party support, something that will ensure your purchases validity a year or two down the road.

On the Xbox side, Xbox Live has been shown to be a very worthwhile service to allow gamers who can not get 16 people or whatever large number all together, to still play.  The Xbox also definatly has the most impressive grafics of all three systems, while this isn't the most important facet of a game, no one can deny that grafics can help determine how quickly one is drawn into a game.  Grafical power also allows for far more possiblities in game play.

I believe that is relativly non-biased.

Nintendo Gaming / the gameboy to gamecube scam
« on: April 05, 2003, 02:34:29 AM »
You buy Metroid and you get Metroid.  You pay extra and get an entire extra game.  The people who will do this are fans of the series, they likely already have both games and Nintendo makes them pay for the service of the extra game by buying the cable.  What an immoral company we are dealing with.  For shame Nintendo, for shame!

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo should pull out of the consol race.

Ugh, why don't we just make a topic like this stuck at the top so that people who would start them can simply post there and the rest of the world can ignore it?

Theavenge,  I wouldn't exactly say you could get the same experience as you do in Halo, in Metroid.  The two games have nothing in common barring the persepective and someting does shoot away from you in both.  Not even bothering to comment on the word preference, it is useless.

Nintendo Gaming / Games with "hidden" loading times
« on: March 31, 2003, 02:16:27 PM »
I am a big fan of the hidden load times.  I am hoping that it is a technique more developers will begin to use.  It simply breaks up the action when you have to watch a little bar go accross the screen.  It is much more understandable that Samus has to ride and elevator than that a bar has to slowly creep accross the screen.

General Gaming / The end of the world...
« on: March 30, 2003, 10:54:43 AM »
Well, really, looking at the library of GCN games, many of them are action/advenure oriented.  Also, Halo and Halo 2 are looking to simultaneously launch with World of Warcraft they way they are going.  While I love MP, I could definatly see someone who enjoyed Halo a great deal getting bored in the lack of action much of the time, as much of it is adventuring and exploring.

Nintendo Gaming / Remakes
« on: March 30, 2003, 10:49:07 AM »
Metroid 2 was on GB... So porting that is really useless.   I found the Zelda port for GBC to be excellent.   Gunstar Heros would be a great game to see ported to the GBA, or maybe even a sequal.

I'd just go back to playing my GCN and let him think what he wants.  Who really cares if he likes Xbox more.  Plenty of people do, and it does have good games.  I don't even own one, just played my friend's, and I realize that.

Nintendo Gaming / What ever happened to the SD Memory card?
« on: March 30, 2003, 09:43:46 AM »
The SD-adaptor would have been a great addition.  But, perhaps Nintendo never got it working quite the way they wanted.  I doubt Nintendo just randomly said, "No, we aren't going to release this."  I do hope that we hear more about this at E3, though I am not  sure if I would ever buy one, on account of the price of the card and adaptor.

Nintendo Gaming / Metal Gear Solid 3... Gamecube EXCLUSIVE!?
« on: March 23, 2003, 05:01:46 AM »
I seriously doubt this.   This is a 180 degree change from Konami's past support.  I'm not one of the whiners who hates them for not supporting the GCN, but I really can't picture this.  Would be nice to eat those words though.

Seeing someone with Mario's stature and mannerisms would definatly be an enjoyable experience in and of itself.  Although, there are definatly enough Mario products as it is, they don't need to flood the market, Mario games just won't seems special at all anymore if we have Mario everything.

General Gaming / System Failures?
« on: March 17, 2003, 06:59:14 AM »
Well, DC went out of production, so you really can't count the last few years as.  The DC had record sales, but Sega couldn't float it, so it died.  Still love mine

Remember the Sega Nomad?  Many people don't.  To be able to play Genesis games on the road, great, for the 3 seconds the battery lasted

I still want one of these, but they are hard to track down.

Nintendo Gaming / Gamecube LAN games?
« on: March 17, 2003, 06:48:57 AM »
Online play is similar to play against bots, except that the names are different, and the tacticts change sometimes.  LAN play is an entirly different game.  The other night at a LAN party, I own in Quake 3.  I had 4 more kills than most others, 6 being gauntlet kills.  Had I done that online, who cares, I can yell a taunt at the guys online, and they can't yell back when they shove a rocket down my thoat and put me back in my place.

In Counter-Strike, there is voice chat.  I stopped playing almost entirly because of this.  Listening is a chore, because you hear homosexual (literally) comments every 30 seconds, and everyone sounds like they are 9 years old.  You can't mute it, because people actually use it to plan attacks.

If there is bickering online, all you can do is hope someone gets booted or leave.  If there is bickering at a LAN, you tell them to shut up.  Once I unpluged the hub because two kids were arguing over the "n00b c4|\||\|0|\| in CS.  We told them to shut up or they wouldn't be playing, we re-started the server, and all was well.  We even got to keep all contestants.

Internet is great when you are home sick or when everyone is busy, but there is nothing like a LAN party.

Nintendo Gaming / Skies of Arcadia 2
« on: March 17, 2003, 06:39:05 AM »
I found the original SoA to be an amazing RPG.  It had a nice mix of old school elements, and newer play mechanics.  The random battles where simply apalling, though.  It would be increadible if they did away with random battles entirely and used a more "Grandia 2" style of battles, where when you walk by the enemies, they are activated and begin to chase after you, even though you rarely were able to get away, it lessened the frustration.  Designers also tend to put in fewer enemies if you can see them.  The effect is similar, where you are forced to attacked monsters, but you don't have to wade through as many, and it makes walking feel less pointless when you can see the enemies.

More land mass would definatly be appreciated as well.  Flying around was great, but it is nice to get out and walk sometimes, your legs get cramped in that ship .

I loved the artistic style, but if you are going to do voice samples, make it less of a joke.  I don't like full out voice, I have never asked for it.  I like to make up the voices with my imagination, but if you are going to do it, you may as well do it well.  Those little comments at the end of battle made me laugh almost ever time.

ATI AIW 9700 pro

I have an ATI 9000 pro, nice card.  Go with an nVidia card or ATI card, which you are pretty much forced to do anyhow.  I would go at least GeForce 3 ti 500 or better, or ATI 9000 or better.

Nintendo Gaming / Gamecube Internet
« on: March 13, 2003, 08:42:15 AM »
I have always been annoyed at people who become angry when game companies ask for money to provide an online service.  A lot of people, especially here in American, don't realize how much this stuff costs.  Servers are not free, bandwidth is not free, workforce is not free.  These games don't simply run on magic, they are run by people who need to bring home a pay check.  I DO demand good costomer service when I pay to play, though.  The service in Everquest was atrocious, one big reason I stopped sending my 9.95 then 12.95 a month.

General Chat / Anyone have the "updated" NES and/or SNES?

I have the SNES 2, and it is definatly not for sale.  Especially not for such an outrageous offer, I would never trust that number.
