General Chat / RE: Bands

Hey, shifty, I started listening to placebo recently.  I wasn't a fan of their sound when I first heard them, but I am liking it now.

Another choice would be a TV-card for your PC.  Costs more than the adaptor, but not that much and is another option.

Not to rag on anyone's choices, but 50-100 dollars for a show is pretty damn high.  One of the best shows I ever went to was 2 dollars, and I had a great time with my friends.  The most I have ever spent would be 20somthing for The Warped tour, where I get to look around for smaller acts that I have never heard of.  Discovered Flogging Molly that way 2 or 3 years ago and have seen them 3 times since, always excellent performers.  While I don't realy care for DMB, I can appreciate the musical talent invovled in the creation of the music, and I can understand why there are so many followers, I am just not one of them.

General Chat / RE: frustration/depressed question

I listen to irish rock when I am depressed usually.  Occasionally I break out some slow music such as placebo or some 90s alt band.  Irish rock usually picks me up, combine that with working on my linux box and I am cheered right up!  Slack 9 is magical.

General Gaming / RE: Where would controllers be without Nintendo?

I was under the impression that there were anologue sticks out for PC before the n64 came about...  Anyhow, the Atari stick had to have been a digital stick.

Wouldn't surpise me to see this game running under wine deminisma.  As much as I would rather see more games native, it just doesn't happen as much. Getting better though.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Sonic Heroes Screens!!! No Joke
« on: May 13, 2003, 01:31:30 AM »
Wow, I loved the other 3d Sonics, camera problems and all.  I would love a game free of those limitations.  I am a HUGE Sonic fan, and definatly excited about this game.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: why cant MIYAMOTO...
« on: May 13, 2003, 01:26:01 AM »
I wouldn't mind seeing some totally off-the-wall adventure game.  Mario can be a bit trippy at times, but just something completely wierd would be fun.  Sure, we have some games like Ratchet & Clank out, which are odd, but who needs to play by any sort of scientific rules?  It would be neat if he made up his own world, entirely, and populated it entirely.  I remember reading  some books (xanth series) where they went to these oddly shaped worlds, and each had a theme, they also had a different shape.  Because of this shape, gravity acted in a very odd way.  Something like this could be fun, really challange gamers.

Bah, jc has no clue what he is talking about.  I am only 17 and I have played hours of Pac-Man, another P-M game is NEVER a bad thing...  And now that java is nice and wide spread, I don't have to dust off my aquired 2600 to play at home.  This game looks like fun, but is definatly not their "big hit title".

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo makes PAC-MAN GBA/Gamecube title
« on: May 10, 2003, 05:03:44 AM »
This sounds like a lot of fun, but definatly something you wouldn't want to buy alone...  If they packaged it with the GBA-GCN connector, like someone above said, I would snap it up in a second.

I suspect that this "secret" info as some have termed it, is meant to make the party talk, not hide, yeesh.  Just because it doesn't show all 4 screens on the tv, doesn't mean it isn't meant for everyone to know.  I, for one, will buy the cable and play with my friend, and actually use this stuff to work as a team.

I cracked mine open, took a screwdriver and bent the little pins in a little so they hold the cart better, pop the cart in, slide it to the left, push power and enjoy.  I found the trick somewhere on the internet about 2 years ago.

The DVD-playback is really only useful to the teenagers who own one, but can't afford a DVD-player.  It would be useful to have a US version of the Q, but probably wouldn't really boost sales.  I love how the GCN looks, it looks like a video game system, not a VCR, not some futuristic piece of electronics.  It looks like it was made to play my video games for many years.  The handle is just a great little addition, I have used that thing to many times.  If they just re-work the Q and release it, I won't buy it, but some people might.  Nintendo knows what it is doing much more so than I do, but I would rather see them work on more games myself...

Nintendo Gaming / RE: eye of the beholder
« on: May 06, 2003, 04:48:51 PM »
I read that it was an excellent game.  One of the better game on GBC, my friend liked it too.  But, for that price, I'd definatly buy it to see if they are right.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Any chance of new titles?
« on: May 06, 2003, 04:41:55 PM »
I am thrilled with what they are doing with old franchises, hopefully we can see what miyamoto can really do!  Seems like he has had a lot of good ideas lately, ala pikmin.  He is proof that the best game makers are artists.

618
Now I have to buy this game again...  Damn you.

When I said playing online people is similar to bots, I was getting at the relationship you have with them.  MANY people don't talk during games unless they know the other guy, and if they do, it is questionable whether your not you want to listen.  I know that people adapt and such, and that is the big difference.  Also, many people fall into set paths that are simply changed every so often, just because they CAN adapt to a situation, doesn't mean they will.  I do prefer playing real online foes to AI bots, but many times, the difference is small, just a matter of the skill level of the human.

As am I., my dad was stationed in Europe, his duty wasn't dangerous, but having someone gone for a few months is never very much fun.  Luckily, since all this is cooling down, he will be returning home much sooner than he was originally going to.  I can't wait.

General Gaming / My New NES!
« on: May 02, 2003, 10:35:24 PM »
I simply did the screwdriver trick, where you bent the connectors inside the NES back to their original position, my games now work flawlessly.  This trick is slightly dangerous to do, but if done right, is a god send.  My games no longer take 30 minutes to make work.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo dishing out projects
« on: May 02, 2003, 01:48:22 AM »
I think what they are doing is great.  No developer that they farm this out to is going to complain that they are competing against Nintendo franchises, since they are releasing them.  They are forging stronger relationships.  And gamers get more games that have been overseen by Nintendo.  We win!

623
If you don't know the guy, you may as well be playing against bots.  The only difference is that the name is probably something stupid and his pathing is different, for better or worse.  I played CS online for about a month and got sick of muting mics.  Not I play mulitplayer PC games exclusivly with my clan, about 14 dedicated gamers who can insult, yell and frag just as much as I can.  Console gaming benefits from the lack of a keyboard at times IMO.

I lived in California from ages 2 to 6, one of my friends there had an atari 2600, we played every day.  I have played games ever since.

Nintendo Gaming / Mario Kart Discussion (TALK ABOUT MARIO KART HERE)
« on: April 24, 2003, 10:52:25 AM »
I have played and owned all of the MK games, and of them all so far, I have found MK64 to be the best.  At one point I thought the SNES game couldn't be topped, but I have just had way to much fun with MK 64, the levels and weapons and of course, the battle.  It just held too much enjoyment to be called a dissapointment, even with so few battle courses.  I hope that Nintendo keeps the magic that was inherant in those classic games in the newest iteration of Mario Kart.
