Nintendo Gaming / RE: Hooking a gamecube up to a laptop screen?

I would swear the same thing.  LCD screen is best to go for money/use/time.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Being online isn't worth it. . .

Personally, I wouldn't mind the option to have a little extra fun out of my games.  Why praise old men for saving money so we get fewer options?  Why in hell to do we nock other companies for giving more options?  Nintendo has sold plenty of useless crap, I have yet to buy a gba link or regret it.  When Nintendo began requireing the expansion pack for a few games, I didn't buy it.  I am sure those things were nice to have, I simply don't have the extra funds for it, but I do appreciate the option.

And games can be made to play alright over a 56k, if the developers try hard enough.  And if rate limits are set well.  I played on quake 3 for DC with almost no lag till the broad band adaptor came out.  Just had to find the right server and it was fine.  Alien Front online also played well, and PSO always played fine, just a few seconds more loading time.  Broad band is the way to go if possible, though.

Fun is fun is fun.  Some want that fun, some don't.  If they are making money, they will continiue, if now, then they won't.  Some losses to help us step into something great are expected.  Who cares if they aren't raking in the cash at the first step(DC and somewhat saturn don't count, it was free) .  Rick is right, 350k is a great number for a paid service.  Look at the uproar over IGN...PSO v2...even games like Everquest.  People hate monthly bills, yet 350k are willing to pay for this service, not a bad first step for a fledgling system.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Animal Crossing 2?
« on: July 10, 2003, 10:44:42 AM »
Heh, had to be an AOLer...
I peronally can't wait for AC2, I just finished up a session of AC and I would love to see some online love.  I don't really do much with online consoles since the Dreamcast, which I played a lot of.  This is the game that would make me buy the modem or broadband adaptor, depending on my online situation.   Being able to visit other people's towns would be great.  I wonder if they would make this a peer-to-peer deal or have a completely server-side game.  A P2P idea would be nice if a server just held town data, since it wouldn't have to completly depend on Nintendo supporting it.  You could, say, post your name and town on the PGC forums and say you were going to be on around 7 EST, then the other peson could connect.   Or maybe they could have plots of land in the online world for us to develop our town in, similar to 10six, the failed online shooter.  Either way, it would be great.

I don't mind the graphics, I think they have a lot of style to them, they aren't boring like just plain shiney polys.  I wouldn't say they should use the style for everything, but a light-hearted game like AC site nicely with it.

I like how the above poster made a typo whenever he tired to insult anyone...

Anyhow, yeah, piracy puts a dent in things, but most poeple would never buy what they pirated.  Short and sweet.  Thing is, it gives companies a reason to charge more.  They have a scapegoat for raising prices.

Not to jump on the bandwagon, but I have to throw my vote to Metroid Prime.

When "VR" gaming comes about, we will finally feel the jump like we did from SNES to n64.  I think that is a jump that people can handle, as long as their banks can.  We don't need these baby-steps.

General Gaming / RE: How do lightguns work?
« on: July 09, 2003, 01:01:37 AM »
The guy who started atari made the first lightgun for a game, that I know of.  So I think they can have different designs and be fine.  I seem to remember reading about Yamauchi having them in a business in Japan where they had a shooting range sort of deal with light guns.

I owned a the soundgarden cd the contained Blackhole Sun, I found the enire CD to be eh.  My brother liked them a lot and had other CDs, I found them to be the same.  I just always prefered the sound of Nirvana, even if it was simple, who cares.  Simple isn't always poor, needless complexity is just useless and gets in the way.

Nintendo Gaming / Gamecube vs Gameboy Advance

I think my GBA is somewhere upstairs.  My games for it are on my shelf.  Rather dusty as well. My GCN gets played every day because it has excellent games.  I have 14 for my GCN, getting more.  I have 4 for my GBA, 2 are GB games.

Seen parts of this around the site, oh yay.  Yeah, companies need to fix small mistakes.  They won't always get it right...  There you go everyone, don't bother reading it.

Dreamcast died on it's own, this is true.  Piracy got big for it AFTER the fact, when people bought 10 dollar games.  I have a buddy who uses a few newgroups for obvious reasons, he used to tell me about the 1 or 2 dreamcast games he saw every few months when the DC was out, now there are tons of them around.

Happened in 1996, right?  So yeah like 7 years ago.  And still played regularly on the radio around here, not a bad accomplishment.  Guess he had something there when he said it was better to burn up then fade away...

They even said that this system is to create name recognition.  They aren't planing on making money on this.   The more people who buy Xbox and learn about it the better for them.  More likely that they can shore up the next system and sell millions next gen, when they plan on money comming in.  I love linux, but my feelings about these guys also line up with the PA comic on the subject.

She also wouldn't give the rights to "you know your right" to the band either.  Which I always thought was crap, they wrote it with him and all...

I never put much stock in the murder theories.

It is now.  Yeah, hacker is a skilled computer user, but perception has changed.  I have also heard the term "viper hacker" used as you used cracker.  Either way, a useless trade when applied this way.
