Nintendo Gaming / RE:NuGHTS is being revived on Wii
« on: March 18, 2007, 10:43:45 AM »
Nope, this is no joke guys. Here's Chandra (ONM Editor) clearing up on what's going on with this rumour. And explaining how it is not an April Fools!

If I hadn't seen these Link's on the Web and hadn't just seen the pages in front of me in my copy of ONM I don't think I'd ever have guessed it was NiGHTS 2.

Anyways. Like the rest, when I first saw the links (I saw the links before the pages, how did that happen, I skipped right past the page? LOL!) I was saying "No, don't do this to me again. But they (ONM) have said now for the last couple of issues they've had to sign a good few NDA's! And Chandra has just got back from Japan from an exclusive test of a new secret game.

NiGHTS 2 is becoming a reality

Last of all. Yes SEGA suck, I hate them, they wreck everything they touch and I don't know why I thought Secret rings would be any different but I haven't played it since the day I bought it. But i'm keen to point out, that neither Sonic team or SEGA have anything to do with Yuji Naka or his new development team. Naka took his best team members and left long ago. The only relationship he has now with SEGA is they have given him some funding for his new development team/studio. As is my understanding.

Naka's the kinda guy who always wants to move onto bigger and better things. Personal opinion coming this way... He's done with Sega and Sonic and he wants to create a whole new world of gaming, that'll go nicely with the Wii's concept then.

I'm very excited to see what NiGHTS 2 brings. Naturally, i'll be keeping my guard up, don't want to get too excited too early. But as Chandra said, something will likely be leaked onto the web before their next issue hits the shelves.

But if/when we start seeing NiGHTS 2 footage, man... Gaming really will never be the same!

Do you mean when you go into 'screen' then 'tv type'?

Yes I've done that. I set it to a 480p signal, but as I said before. It looks totally identical! I know i'm not expecting too much for 480p if everyone keeps talking about how much better it makes the picture. But it doesn't make a difference what setting i'm on, they all look really bad, the textures are huge and grainy.

My only fear is that the TV's natural resolution is too hight for even the 480p to even make a difference but I doubt that very much. Even though I dont know much about tv's. How can a TV's resolution be too high for even 480p ad 50hz to look different in any way?

Any help appreciated.

Dan.

Hi

Just bought a Toshiba 42" LCD  TV. I was really excited to finally being able to view my games in 480p resolution. To see what they looked like. I went out and bought the component cables.

The Wii is connected to my tv with the component cables. But when running in 480p, it looks totally IDENTICAL to when the system is running at 60hz, or even 50hz!!!

Does anyone know why this is? Can anyone help? Thanks.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Nintendo Wii: The Revolution
« on: October 15, 2006, 01:02:56 AM »
Yeah, But I have to wait until December 8th *cries* But it'll be worth it. Everyone here are into their xbox and haven't heard of the Wii. Only a couple of people I work with have heard of the Wii, and they're the types of gamers who've been playing since the Nes/Genesis days. Whereas people who haven't heard of wii only 'really' got into gaming with the xbox, so it makes sence that they haven't heard of the wii. So I dont actually know the generlisation of Wii here but I hope its good. Its gonna be affordable so thats gonna be a key factor. But Nintendo Must, must 'MUST' break out of this tiku tiku tiku!  factor and get more games like Red Steel and Resident Evil:Umbrella Chronicles, and blow them out of proportion! (Comercially) A guy at work I told about the Wii said that Ninteno had got too tiku tiku tiku!  and just wouldnt get out of it, but I assured him they were trying this time, to make it a console for everyone. And I want it to be but after the above mentioned titles I'm out of ideas :-S I know theres Zelda, but that wouldnt attract an 'xbox fanboi' who sees Gta as an adult game, y'know? I guess only time Will tell. Anyone who knows of more titles ('Misery' is another) add them here.  I suppose getting more adult titles could be part of nintendo's plan to make it a console for everyone?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Getting a Wii and selling your 'Cube?
« on: October 15, 2006, 12:49:05 AM »
Hmmm, Don't think i'd sell my cube. Again, space is an issue. I have my Tv, Gamecube, PS2 (and soon a wii) all balanced on a bedside cabinet so i'm not sure how i'm gonna make it work lol. Will Nintendo bring out Wireless GC controllers to play GC games? plugging in GC controllers into the top of the wii looks ugly as heck!

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Sonic Wii
« on: June 12, 2006, 11:50:59 AM »
Towards the end of this video when sonic runs for the goal, it made me realise how much it just looks to work like a Special Zone from Sonic 2 and Sonic 3d Blast (Saturn Version) You're running forward at high speed collecting the rings and dodging obstacles. But this is where those older sonics had the upper hand, if you ran into a bomb, you weren't slowed down (much) but just lost rings. This made those stages thrillingly fast and challenging. In Sonic wildfire, these obsticles (and What the hell is with those robots?)  bring the speed and action to a complete stand still,  Thats the #1 thing that made my blood boil in SA!!  Wild fire doesn't look to play or control much different from those special stages, coz again, you're running on a set track. You'd think that making a game play well thats 'on rails' would be a snap, take a look at nights into dreams. Blistering speed and stunning visuals, yet its all on rails and runs beautifully. Yeah Sega are still very 'Arcadey' but even their arcade games played easier than this. I think its only fair to compare it to virtua cop (again a set on rails actions game) But there's no problems with that. They way wildfire works would be like saying (in virtua cop) you mistakenly shoot a civilain but then the game stops until they've buried the body. Its as if Sonic team makes their games purposley so fast they are unplayable. And, what? 5 '3D' sonic later they still haven't learned anything. They're far to busy introducing new and pointless characters! I have an idea, why dont sonic team gather all the (dumb)  characters they've invented, shove them all in one game, fill it with obsticles that kill all enjoyment, then base all the levels 2 miles in the air so that you can't go more than 3 minutes without plummiting to your characters pointless death. Oh wait, that was Sonic Heroes.

Dan.

EDIT: I've seen the trailer 3 times now and each time I see something more that annoys me

1. Ring count: Whats with the ring count 'pulse' animation? is it in case where you forget you ring count might be? (the same top left corner its been in for 15 years)

2. Running/Jumping Platforms: Sonic will run on a long stretch, then come to a (pointless) jump gap which nobody will make coz 3d sonics cannot be controlled, but they lay down trampolines where you were supposed to have jumped the gap, as if  they know the player will fall every time, so why bother putting the obsticle there in the first place? The 'video game way' would be for to make that an alternate route, as in you've fallen so you'll go on a different and longer route, rewarding and encouraging you to make the jump next time.

3. Title Screen: How the title says "working title" but you know they wont bother to fix any of these bugs. Its done.

4. Wild Gauge: Reminds me far too much of 'Chaos Control' . Gaaagg!!!

5. Motion: Sonic still runs like a fool.

6. Enemies: the falling pillars are twice as dangerous as those robots!

7. erm: 5 minutes and 24 seconds into the video, Sonic in 3D at its best and how we all know it!

I really don't mean to be bitter here. Honest. I just still have an aching heard from SA1  and it hurts how they've made no effort to improve.

I'm not hard on sega coz this is a Nintendo site, I'm a bigger fan of Sega than I am of Nintendo. But since the dreamcast and its death, it just seems Sega dont really try with their games anymore. Look at how theres so much hype for games like Spy Fiction and full auto. But when they're released they completely bomb in the reviews. Wheres that effort that made games like Virtua cop and sega rally so great. Sonic R was a racer but it was much better than Sonic Riders could ever hope to be. Will sega ever really try again?

Hi,

I think this came with a 'windows update' A very annoying  feature. When i click to activate something (eg a flash video) I have to click the actual screen of the video/window/menu before I can use it. And it says "click to use and activate this control" ok its only one extra click but its really annoying, when you're at a forums etc. Anyone know how to switch it off? Thanks.

It looks like so much fun to play! But the falling platforms and obsticles really stopped the action dead in its tracks. They were the kinds of things that killed SA,SA2 and sonic Heroes, stopping to do pointless jumps. And sonic kinda looks like he's floating instead of running, his feet arent matching the pace he's moving at. But at least Sonic team have finally abandoned their passion for heights. By this I mean remember playin the formentioned SA,Sonic heores  (any 3d sonic game) with levels like speed highway which lead to your immidiate death thanks to the horrible cameras and collision detection. Not to mention giving sonic the ability to run on a wall then change their mind half way through doing it, making sonic plummit onto a "You could have died but we put a platform there" route. Fingers crossed they will fix this (looks like we all feel the same on this issue) but from the footage its raised serious doubt

wow, using the remote as a phone? thats awesome! I'm guessing you can only do this when no disc is inserted. although they havent said its a microphone yet, just a speaker. But everyone seems to think it'll be a MiC too, thats what I thought as well. I see what people are saying, if they had said you could use the remote to communicate it would have been received much better as the last secret.

I feel really stupid for asking coz i'm sure the whole world knows now. But I wanted someone to tell what was 'Wii's final secret'. There was so much talk about how they revealed the controller, then the name, and the best was yet to come and would be announced at E3. I couldnt find anything here and ive looked around only to find talk on controls for a madden game using the Nunchuck. Can anyone help? thanks.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Email Nintendo and tell them you HATE the name!
« on: April 28, 2006, 07:18:36 AM »
When i heard the name this morning, I thought what the hell? And I rushed to nintendo.com for answers. And you know what? the second I saw the logo, I was won over and I took back everything I'd thought negative about wii instantly. Just take a look at that logo. I didnt need to, but seems alot of people really need to go back and stare at it. I saw the logo 'Wii' and it just felt right. It looked like the sort of logo you'd see on a phone or some futuristic gadget that everyone 'has to have' And the description underneath offered even more comfort. Wii feels like its short for something, even though its not.

I think people are afraid of the name because its very unusual. But this was what excited me. It was unusual, it scared me, just like the controller did when I first saw it. But it wasn't a negative fear. It was a really exciting, rush, kind of fear.

What do you feel when you get on a rollercoaster?, you are "SCARED TO DEATH",

I think Nintendo have made the right choice with the name and the logo, its beautiful.

so what are people gonna say about wii? :

Man 1 : I hear Nintendo's new machine is called wii.
Man 2 : Really? that sounds weird.

And i reckon that will be the extent of it worldwide. How can the name bring Nintendo negative attention whe they get hardly any attention anyway. It will make people remember that Nintendo are still here and maybe they have something Very special, its new, its out of this world and its gonna be huge.

Trust me, when you see the logo in the shops, it will all make sence.

EDIT: I'd just like to say since when has a new console name ever sounded good when it was first launched??? I remember thinking the name dreamcast was daft, I remember thinking N64 was daft, hell, I remember even thinkin playstation sounded daft!!! I just found myself going back to nintendo.com and every time I watch that little flash intro, wii feels ever more familiar. The more you see it, the more it'll make sence. Go back and try it for yourself. Oh and one last thing...

But now Nintendo needs you. Because its not really about you or me, its about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:My Wii Trailer
« on: April 28, 2006, 06:15:10 AM »
I really liked that. Very well done. Nintendo should pay you to use that. I've been looking at some of the ideas in this topic for ads for the wii and they're all amazing. It looks like they chose this name also because it could be so easy to advertise? as everyone knows 'plays on words' is HUGE in advertising right now. And there's just so much to be done with wii. OK I disliked it at first and I think everyone will. But once people hear it and see trailers like these then it will all just fall into place and talking about wii will be as common as talking about TV.

Hey theres another one, how about that... Wii T.V lol

Get wii on your TV, it works with everything, nice one Ninty :p

I just heard on the radio this morning that Nintendo have unveiled the name for the next generation console currently codenamed the 'Revolution'

The console is to be named Wii (Pronounced WEE!!!)

I haven't checked the official site yet. I wanted to come here first to report the news. My first thought when I heard was
"What the HELL?!"

Have nintendo gone mad? Not only is the controller incredibly bold. But they must have some real guts naming the console 'Wii'

I don't even think 'Microsoft' have the power or the phasazz to pull off 'Wii' let alone Nintendo.

Imagine telling people in the future that you play with your own 'Wii' :-S lol

Lets put it this way, if they choose to call their console this, it had better be someting very, VERY special.

Dan.

apologies for posting here, should have gone in the Wii section.

Thanks alot Mario, I'll try that. The clock seems to be ok now. It hasn't changed since. I was hoping the battery compartment would be external like it was on the Saga Saturn, just in case it does happen to go flat. Its an odd thing to happen, if anything goes wrong with power, usually the clock sets back to its launch date, but to jump forward about 6 years? Crazy cube. :p Thanks for the help all.

Yes after I changed the date back yesterday it has kept it. But I still cant find a battery compartment on the console. And will this also explain the 50/60Hz issue?

Nintendo Gaming / Gamecube Trouble
« on: April 21, 2006, 09:40:00 AM »
Hi, I'm brand new to gamecube forums. I've had a gamecube for about a year and a half. I just joined here for some help, I'm having trouble with my gamecube and its one of the weirdest things i've ever seen.

I switched on my gamecube and was told my clock settings had been lost (and it had somehow put my clock forward about 6 years!)

Next, since my Gamecube is Pal, in most of my games i'm given the 50hz/60hz option. But for some reason i'm not given this choice anymore when my games load up! it just goes straight to reading the memory card then starting the games.

I thought the clock part could be down to a dead lithium battery but when i took a look at the cube I couldnt find a place in which a battery might be stored.

Can anyone help. I feel a bit robbed having to play my games 20% slower and with a slightly lower resolution. Many thanks for any help!

Dan.
