OMG...I have that problem as well!

Outside getting antsy during a movie, I too have the urge to do something else on the computer!

Third parties JUST got dev kits, so you can expect the first push to be from Nintendo, but don't expect much in the way of online significance from third parties this year.

You can defend Nintendo all you want, but nothing will change the fact that third parties should have had these dev kits a long time ago, and this WILL affect how third parties approach Nintendo's online service. It may not be too late, but that's all we can hope at this point.

I was talking about online games in GENERAL, not just the first party titles. If its true that Nintendo is working closely with third parties then you can bet they too will heavily advertise the third party online games.

I still see all online games from all developers being released after summer/during fall.

To everyone saying "Wait until 2008" and "Nintendo's shipped online dev kits so shut up". Ever hear of the concept of a deadline? I know it's something Nintendo doesn't really like to commit itself to, but within the actual realm of game development, these are very important.

Just because Nintendo just now shipped dev kits doesn't mean we're going to be seeing online games in the Summer, because most games slated to be released by that time are most likely so far along in development that it's just too late to incorporate online for the Wii. It's going to be a while into 2008 before we start to see results, and by then it might just be too late: The Wii by that point may be known as 'The Console That Online Forgot' and no developer will really want to incorporate online.

Hopefully, it's not THAT late. But Nintendo definitely needs to get off it's butt and help third parties out in a timely fashion. It really seems like Nintendo thinks too much as a competitive game developer too much, and not enough as the console makers they really need to be.

Boy, you simply LOVE being Ian Jr. don't you? :p

I mention the summer comment because that's when it will likely happen. I see them making a big deal out of online gaming before the end of summer/fall. I see the Wii's second fall schedule being focused on the killer apps (Mario, Brawl etc.) and online gaming.

As for the 2008 comment, I mention it because Nintendo has all of 2007 to plan, develop and release online games. If by 2008 there are still no online plans then something is up. I mention it because right now its too early to demand online games since Nintendo, as well as the third parties, focused on pushing consoles and games into homes.

Did the PS3 even have some online games at launch? I know the 360 had some online games, but that was using the already established XBOX Live service (which that in itself took a year to take off).

And to clear everything, I ain't being overly optimistic or forgiving on Nintendo. I am simply stating that right now its too early to say that the Wii is doomed in terms of online gaming since it was just released and that the online fest should come no later than summer or fall. Again, if by then no advancement has been made then its something to bitch about in great numbers.

It's very unfortunate when a game with lots of potential gets shot down in its prime. Tattoo Fighters was one of them.

Tattoo Fighters was more than just a Mortal Kombat clone, it set out to outdo it. Featuring an ENGAGING cast of characters, an amazing storyline and an incredible number of beautiful fatalities, the game was going to be the next thing in 2D fighting.

Here's the sad tale of its swan song of a game.

Don't believe me?

Here's a video that demonstrate the incredible fatalities, including the ever so lovely, Nudality.

Well, its unfair to say that the WHOLE industry has taken a step back in terms of production and depth. It's true that some games need some work, but many of them have done a great job of implementing Wii controls AND bringing some depth in terms of production values. Rayman not only was creative in terms of gameplay it had an insane art style. And despite short comings, Red Steel tried its hardest to innovate. Activision did its best with its games too.

Hell, even Sega seems to be spending some time with their Wii games. And don't even get me started on Square...

It's true that the games released at and after launch are either ports or lazy attempts at Wii concepts, but this sort of things happens all the time. Remember the DS launch? All it had was concept games, N64 ports and GBA ports with hasty touch screen support thrown in. Now not only is it a phenomenon, its home to some of the best games this generation and will be the home of one of the most anticipated sequels this gen...Dragon quest IX.

Also, graphics and presentation a good game do not make. Yeah, I know its a tired phrase, but I think its unfair to judge the overall quality of the game on just the presentation.

One other thing, the Japan sales of this game proves that there IS an audience for this type of game, low production values be damned. I would blame it on the controller, yes, but its been 3 months since launch and people are STILL eating the game up. Surely there must be more to it than the controller, right?

And finally, OF COURSE you will be defensive. Usually, websites tend to have collective thinking in some matters, so when the readers disagree heavily with the review of course the staff will come out and defend its opinion. Hell, even SB and Cap take a very defensive stance when someone argue their opinion either here or on their podcast.

So to sum it all up:
1. You guys are perhaps are being too paranoid when it comes to Wii games, since it barely launched and many games are coming for it.
2. Simply because the game has low production values or low presentation skills it doesn't mean that in the long run its a bad game.
3. The defensive stance is understandable since its almost an universal law.

Frankly, I haven't played the game myself, but I see this as being a 6.0 game, an average type game that isn't fantastic but provides some fun. 4.0 and lower just reeks of bad game material, which is why I think people say its just a harsh review.

I think you just had expectations way too high for this type of game...

Nintendo Gaming / Capcom has a lot of Wii games planned, but...
« on: February 10, 2007, 06:26:35 AM »
Someone bitched about the Wii not having Capcom games on the Capcom forums and one of their representatives posted a response.

This is what he had to say (from Go Nintendo):
"The following comment is from Christian Svensson, Sr. Director of Strategic Planning & Research at Capcom…

We have more titles coming to Wii than what’s been announced HOWEVER, I must admit, many of them (outside of RE) are not mature titles despite the fact that’s an area Capcom is known for.

By and large, we don’t see the Wii being home to an sizble mature playerbase outside of some of the early adopters. We see it as being very, very broad with a family focus (especially in Japan). If there is a “core player base” on Wii, within two years, it will be largely a younger player (far younger than 360 or PS3).

You’ll see more announcements later this year on this front."

It's good to know that we are getting some games, but it sucks that Capcom is still with the "Nintendo's for families" mentality.

Looks like Reggie needs to do some regginating at Capcom...

It was the tilting the Wiimote to orbit the camera which irked us.

Also, it was just another multiplayer dungeon crawler, really. I've done dungeon crawlers to DEATH. In order for me to be impressed by a dungeon crawler, it will need to be something truly, TRULY amazing.

I can understand the dungeon crawler part. They do tend to get boring and repetitive quite fast.

But what surprises me is that no one has mentioned that issue about camera control.

You would think an irksome feature like that would get noticed a lot more in people's reviews and impressions.

Yeah, the Wiimote is innovative, but what about its applicable usage in online gaming? I would think that there could be some pretty damn impressive online experiences that use the Wiimote, and I don't just mean FPSs.

Furthermore, why the delay? What the HELL is Nintendo afraid of? That 3rd parties are going to make online games for the Wii that are so good that no one will buy Nintendo's? Seriously, generating a strong online repertoire can only do good things for the console and it's not like it's impossible to do or involves rocket science to accomplish so why not do it?

Well, Nintendo has started to ship online kits to developers now, so this is why I think that we will likely get online titles the end of summer/early fall/Winter 2007. This is also why I say that we should wait till 2008 in order to truly bitch since we are just starting. I guess it doesn't hurt to bitch about it now before it gets worse, but its too early to predict doom. I mean, if it took MS many years to perfect their XBOX Live service, and they are a company that has all the tools to bring online gaming to life, what makes you think that Nintendo, who has shunned online gaming for YEARS, will not get the same problem?

That's another problem. When multiple people want to watch something on the computer it becomes annoying as hell.

As for Orb, the service was always on and off for me. Sometimes it would log in fine, others it wouldn't.

I was simply annoyed at the many hoops you need to jump through in order to use this "easy to use" program. The US was pretty confusing and annoying.

Anyways, while I agree that the services do need some fixing, I think its too early to predict doom and demand these features.

If its 2008 and Nintendo still hasn't delivered on their online promise, THEN we can freely bitch about it.

Am I the only one that for some reason feels extremely uncomfortable and antsy when watching video files on the computer, ESPECIALLY long ones? I can tolerate short videos on You Tube as well as the occasional videogame trailer/movie trailer and such, but I get anxious when I have to watch a long video on the computer.

Is this even natural? I honestly don't know why I get like this. Back in the day I would sit down and watch anime on my computer for hours, sometimes completing many seasons in a week (I watched all 140 + episodes of Naruto as well as the movie in a week during summer break). But now, even watching 10 minutes is too much for me.

This is the reason why I pretty much stopped watching anime and any videos. Hell, even when I REALLY want to watch something I simply can't sit down and watch it. The show or anime would have to be EXTREMELY engaging in order for me to sit down for hours.

I don't know why, but maybe the reason I feel this way is because I tend to enjoy my movies and TV shows on a big screen TV while either sitting or lying down on the couch or in my bed, relaxing and such. Sitting on an uptight computer chair simply doesn't do it for me.

I know there are methods of watching video files on your TV, both legally and illegally. But I am too broke to afford doing so. But if I had the money I would've done it in a hurry. This is the reason why I gave Orb on the Wii a try, but that service sucked BALLS.

So again, is this natural?

Complaining about dull presentation and slow pace in a BILLIARDS game? Also completely ridiculous. It's fun to sit back and relax and play by yourself. Play Shooting Range if you've had too much Red Bull.

they all fail in showing off the exciting potential of the kind of gaming experiences that the Wii Remote can offer.

Not really. People say "hey I wonder how the remote would work for Ping Pong", they play this, the answer is "well".

"Slightly above Banana Blitz" is a HUGE insult, 90% of those had BROKEN CONTROLS. The controls in these games are absolutely flawless and do justice to every game in the collection (except maybe FISHING). If you don't enjoy air/laser hockey, or ping pong, or billiards etc. only then wont you enjoy these games. They are what they are. There's so much more wrong here I don't want to scroll up again and read it because it HURTS my brain.

Don't listen to this crap review, if you want a bunch of fun minigames with your next remote, you'll be very happy. It's certainly NOT Wii Sports calibre, and it's not an AMAZING AAA GAME. It's just fun, and easily worth a pissweak extra $10. Shit, that's like 5 games of air hockey in the arcade.

I'm very happy Nintendo finally decided to release these cool mini-games we never get to play, the DS launch would have been better with something like this.

I agree with this. I think this review is being extremely unfair, but sadly I see this being the norm when people review Wii Play.

For all its good intentions, Wii Play is a tech demo game, perhaps even more so than Wii Sports. Like someone said, these were basically the quick demos shown at E3 for the hell of it. Even Nintendo realized that the only way they can move copies of the game is if they include a Wiimote alongside it.

So don't be surprised if the game gets even more hate when it releases next week.

The BIG mistake would be comparing it to Wii Sports. Yes, both games present you a simple concept that uses the Wiimote greatly and are aimed towards the casual gamers, but Wii Sports does it through sports while Wii Play does it by mini games. The concepts are vastly different from each other, so saying one is better than the other would be an unfair treatment.

That's a rather unfair statement.

Simply because Factor 5 knows how to push the envelope in terms of graphics it doesn't mean that ALL developers should too.

It's true that some of the Wii games been unimpressive in terms of graphics, but its unfair to say that ALL developers are lazy, since some are truly putting a lot of effort into their games, and some, SHOCK, actually care about gameplay more than graphics!

So again, its stupid of Factor 5's behalf to say that because they were able to push the envelope with graphics every developer should follow suit.

Besides, the developers are the ones that decide how far they should push the graphics. Capcom did some amazing things with RE 4 on the GC and Square could be making a game for the most technically unimpressive console and they would STILL make a simply beautiful looking game.

I already stated that Wii Play is worth it ONLY if you need an additional controller because if you do the math it is quite a deal. Even Nintendo knew that the game would be weaker than Wii sports and knew they needed to bundle a controller in so they could sell some copies.

While I agree that the lack of 4 player is disappointing I think the bad score is a bit uncalled for since the game is aimed at a different audience. True, the hardcore gamers will grow bored with it, but who knows if kids and non gamers end up loving it.

Hell, my mom is interested in the game simply because of the shooting targets game (she loved Duck hunt on the NES).
