Thanks for answering.  I hope that doesn't mean blocking has to be done with a "cursor out" as they called it (instead of the D-Pad), because that was either too hard to time correctly or wasn't responsive enough.

I think the placement of the text and screens suggests that Mario helping Kirby isn't breaking the rules at all.  "Those are the rules of this world" comes after that act, and the line about breaking rules says "When someone...or something...breaks those rules."  If we already knew who broke the rules, there'd be no need for the corny "or something" bit.

Why is that a shame?  There's no functional difference between doing 9999 damage to a boss with 500,000 HP and doing 1 damage to a boss with 50 HP.

Sandbag: He told me enough! He told me you killed him!
Badguy: No.  I am your father.

Why doesn't Cobrat get any love?  He's from the same game as Birdo, and he's a snake.  Why isn't it Cobrats on a Plane?

If Z lowers you now, how do you power up your chi meter?  Are the gestures much better than in BT2, where they were mostly based on the pointer instead of real gestures?

It's nothing that complicated.  When you move closer to the IR bar, the lights look farther apart, and when you move away, they look closer together.  Still, the accelerometers are better for detecting movement in general.  I don't think gauging movement based on the IR bar should be used unless you want to detect when the remote returns to a certain distance.  So far, in the games I've played that use the IR sensor to detect forward and backward motion, it's been a little too unreliable.  Red Steel and DBZ:BT 2 come to mind.  That may just be launchitis, I admit.

Mario doesn't really need another princess to worry about.  I think it would be more interesting if Rosetta turned out to be the villain.

Have any of you seen Interstate 60?  You'll never think of the Pink Ranger the same way again.

I don't know about that.  If the DS has really expanded the market, then many DS owners did not own Game Boys, and the name may not mean anything to them.

I didn't have a problem with it when they didn't call the N64 the NES64 (or the Ultra NES), so I don't see why they should have to keep the same name for all their handhelds, either.

Nintendo Gaming / Sonic RPG by Bioware - interview
« on: July 17, 2007, 10:48:06 AM »
This is one of the least likely games ever conceived, no doubt.  There's an interview with the Bioware folks at Wired.  It may not be worthy of a new thread, but since the only other Sonic RPG thread is in TalkBack, I figured someone may as well create a proper discussion thread for it here.  This interview is perhaps most interesting because it sounds like they interviewed a talking press release.

The basic gist of it is that they were already big Sonic and DS fans, so they "jumped at the chance" to work on this game.  The game is a "fast-paced, story-driven experience with tons of exploration,  customization and progression," and "You’ll see all the popular characters and story elements that Sonic fans love." (emphasis added).

It sounds to me like it hasn't moved off the paper yet.

Hating midi because of bad FM synthesis is like hating sheet music because of bad kazoo playing.  It's just an interface protocol.

Polygons are polygons.  Why would you think arcade flight game polygons work differently from platform game polygons or FPS polygons?

In Contra, the code had to be entered as the title screen came up.

This game is a guaranteed sale to me as long as Konami doesn't get a big head and overcharge for it.

have you never played ALttP???

That's where a lot of this stuff comes from, I'll bet.  Many things that are part of the Zelda paradigm aren't really explained, and you only really know what to do in some cases if you're familiar with past Zelda games.

As I recall, Factor 5 did some fancy tricks with the N64 hardware.  Maybe they're helping Nintendo get their games working on the VC.  Of course, most of their games will require LucasArts to get involved, too.  I wouldn't mind seeing that Indiana Jones game they ported on the VC.  It had a very limited release.

From what I've read, Riqa eventually became Rogue Ops.

Maybe the game was Excitebike, but then Nintendo found out about Nitrobike and decided to let Ubisoft have the spotlight.
