When I mentioned the first vehicle section, I meant the bits where you get out and fight.  Like the part that introduced grenades. I replayed that over and over trying to get great grenade kills.

Have you controlled the Antelions yet?  That's the Highlight of the game pretty much.  If you don't like it by then you probably aren't going to like it.

No, I don't believe I have. I think I'm still early on, trying to exit the sewers at the point where I am at. I haven't seen any different kinds of enemies besides the Combine officers and their annoying security robots.

Sounds like you're in the second chapter. Combat starts getting more interesting during the first vehicle section, IMO, but it won't set itself apart until you get the gravity gun. You'll either love or hate Ravenholm and the journey up the coast, but the rest is consistently awesome.

The thing about AI is that it takes smarter AI to act dumber.  For example, a simple AI knows exactly where you are and how to come kill you.  A better AI knows that it shouldn't know that until you give yourself away.  Smarter AI doesn't mean the AI will simply be harder to overcome.  It means the AI will be capable of more complex behavior with fewer obvious scripts, including such human tricks as cowardice, foolishness, laziness, and innumerable other behavior models besides the current industry standards of "balls out aggression" and "predictable ambush."

No, that person is unwilling to spend that much money unless he can play that game.

Now that Gamestop owns Impulse, I wonder if they'll find a way to sell used game downloads.  I have an account thanks to the GalCiv 2 expansions, but now I don't feel bad about forgetting it exists in favor of Steam anymore, since now I'm snubbing a crappy company instead of a great company, i.e. Stardock.

This news unsold a friend of mine on a 3DS all by itself.

Naughty Dog is a Sony subsidiary, so I don't know why anybody would even ask them about it.

The power glove (which was so bad) was not Nintendo's.  I think Nintendo toyed with another motion sensing controller, though.  I remember seeing pictures in Nintendo Power of a kid punching the air in front of an L-shaped doohickey.

U Force?  I don't think that it was actually made by Nintendo, though.  I knew a kid who had one.  What a piece of garbage it was.  The only fancy controller that I ever used was the NES Advantage, which I still have.

I didn't know it was ever sold.  I barely remember anything, but I had always been under the impression it was some internal experiment that never came out.  I guess this means Nintendo didn't do anything with motion sensing in the old days after all.

UltimatePartyBear, have you gotten to play the 3DS yet?  I be curious to get your reaction on using the Circlepad for GB games and DS games where its substituting the d-pad as a fellow NES Max veteran.  I prefer it  but that's pretty widely known.

I bought a 3DS at launch, but I've haven't played anything like that yet.  I do like the circle pad in general, though.

Duke Nukem Vs.  They can do the multiplayer-only thing a decade late, too.  And make the 's' in vs. really small to troll the fan base.

The fourth and final game for the eShop and DSiWare is Just SING! The 80s Collection by dtp Young Entertainment. A karaoke app, players can sing to the classic tunes of Madonna, A-ha, and Rick Astley. Downloading this game will set players back $4.99.

Finally, portable Rickrolling!  A mere two and a half years too late to be relevant.

Duke Nukem: Vendetta

Roman Numerals were the only way I could think of working the sequential number into the actual title, as in 3D and 4ever.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was struggling with that.

The buttons and such were loose and inaccurate since we got it. Compared with Nintendo's normal controllers, which were a lot more resilient, then yes, it was not a good controller in my eyes.

Maybe you had a bad one, because mine was great, and I could never go back to the regular controller after using it.

Max - circle pads

The Max's circle pad was just a slider sitting on top of a regular D-pad.  Sliding it alone did nothing.  You had to press down.  It mostly took the friction away from the skin of your thumb.  However, the look and feel was certainly an inspiration.

power glove - Wii remote

Zapper = Wiimote Pointer? The pointer works excellently as a gun and better than the Zapper ever was.

The technology in the Zapper is way too different in my opinion, though there was a gun controller that used similar tech to the Wii Remote available for the PS2, so one might say the quest for a gun controller that worked with non-CRT screens ultimately led to the Wii Remote.

It couldn't stand up to a single wanton act of destruction, so it sucked.  Apparently I have a mutant gene that made me the only kid in the world who was careful with my toys.  I had a copy of The Immortal that didn't work past stage 2 because someone spilled Pepsi in it.  My respect for humanity has never fully recovered.

That sounds more like anger management issues than manufacturing defects to me.  The NES Max was awesome, especially as a cure for Nintendo Thumb.  If there had only been a SNES Max, I might have been able to play fighting games.

I forgot one.  In SMK, you occasionally have to let off the accelerator to do well.  Once they added the power slide boosts, they couldn't very well design tracks with turns that required braking instead.

I once carried my 3DS in the pocket of my jeans, and it is so heavy that my jeans fell down and I had to use a belt to hold them up. It's definitely a bit much for normal pockets. I'm hesitant to place it in my purse since I'm worried what might happen to it when in close proximity to my taser, though that probably wouldn't be an option for you anyway...
I suppose I could get a European men's carryall.

For the record I wear male 36x36 Dress Pants most of the times.  36x36 in women sizes be literally a circus tent...
I see.  I wear jeans every day, and they have tighter pockets than your fancy pants.  :)

How are you guys carrying your 3DSes around?  I tried bringing my 3DS with me to work one day (hoping for coins and not expecting or getting Street Passes), and I found it way too bulky to be comfortable in my pocket.  I'd like to figure out a convenient way to take it with me, but I fear I may end up only having it with me in the winter, since I'll have extra pockets in my jacket.

I was always under the impression that Halo became popular because of split-screen multiplayer.  It was its generation's / Nintendo haters' Goldeneye, or maybe Mario Kart 64.

My favorite things about SMK:
  • Exploiting the deterministic AI and infinite supply of feathers of the CPU racers to get them stuck jumping over the ramps on Mario Circuit 2 (or was it 3?) forever.
  • Using a mushroom with perfect timing before a jump to catch insane amounts of air.
  • The way item blocks got used up, so you had to choose between following a good line or picking up an item.  This created some tense moments in battle mode, too.

I didn't think it was possible, but Slippy's Japanese voice is even more annoying.  I played the expletive of your choice out of the N64 version, so I can't be convinced to buy a minor face lift.  Now a true sequel in this style, that would be something to get excited about.

Gravity flipping is one of my favorite game mechanics, so I'm at least mildly intrigued.

It seems to me that this would be the wrong time to give in to Operation Rainfall, anyway.  If NoA wanted to take advantage of the grass roots hype train, it should let it build up some more, especially since the fans are planning to keep a month long letter writing campaign going.

I don't think NoA is going to do anything, but Atlus or somebody else would certainly benefit from waiting a little longer to announce anything.

Personally, I'm keeping my hopes down.  I just wanted to point that out.

I was thinking that there's no way we'd have to fight Ganon again in Skyward Sword since it seems to take place before OoT.  But on the other hand, Miyamoto doesn't really care for continuity between the games, so putting Ganon in SS could serve as the death blow to any kind of sensible continuity.  I guess it's up in the air.
