This may be where I give up on Nintendo.

Blame The Tetris Company for the crappy gameplay changes.  At some point their target market became cell phone gamers, and they have a ridiculous stick up their butt about changing the rules from platform to platform, so we have crap like infinite spin.  Infinite spin lets people cope with crappy cell phone button controls, and I'm guessing it's what led to the speed increase.  They had to get some amount of challenge back after adding such a game breaking feature.

This is all spelled out in an interview here on NWR somewhere.  I'll see if I can find it again.

Personally, I wouldn't even buy a new Tetris game without new modes that add new twists to the formula (The DS version's Push mode is the best take on multiplayer Tetris in my opinion), but I fully agree with you about options.  Almost every feature in Tetris could easily be customizable.

Edit:  Here it is.  He blames "competitive play" in short bursts for the infinite spin and speed increase, but it's still about cell phones.

Playing as the bull is a creative twist that you don't usually see in games in niches like this.

You must be too young for old Simpsons. :(

No, I'm too old to watch your baby cartoons.

I just noticed that the comparison image is skewed: The old Klonoa is an ingame pic, the new one concept art. Makes the new design look cleaner.

What game is that shot from?  I noticed it was fuzzy, but the cel-shading was good enough that I didn't even question that it was hand drawn (assuming it's not a sprite with oddly angular hat, shoes, and gloves).

WPA support is a pretty big deal.  I haven't taken my DS online in a long time because of the hassle of either changing my router's security settings temporarily or using that overheating dongle.  It was understandable why Nintendo left it out before, but costs must have dropped significantly since then.  If this is true, it moves the chances of me buying a DSi up a notch.

The bad news is, they want to give him a lame Poochie style extreme makeover for America.

What are you referring to by "Poochie style?"

Don't tell me that!  I just spent a few thou on home improvement!  I need to be saving money now.

These are the not the words of a party bear, let alone the Ultimate party bear! Fiscal responsibility should not be on the agenda.

I'm sure I've pointed out the irony in my choice of username before.

Here is the press release, before I got hell for posting a pic. of the DSI, a hot link or something, wether or not this is also a hotlink, I don't know, but I think you guys deserve to read the details straight from the source

You're not getting hell.  A few people are just looking out for a new guy for once.  It's rare around here, so you should enjoy it.  :)

If you haven't already done so, read the rules.  Hot linking is another way of saying "using bandwidth that is not your own."

I wonder where/how HVS got their funding.

Looking at their portfolio, it seems they get their funding by realizing that they're a business instead of an art studio.  (That's a good thing.)

What surprised the heck out of me was Valkyria Chronicles.  A Sega-developed RPG of all things, and it's getting really good reviews.

I rented game 3 a long time ago.  I hated it.  Who makes a game with that franchise that hard?  And it was the stupid kind of hard, too.

I played game 4.  It's not anywhere near as good as the main series games, but it's not terrible.  The weirdest thing about it was the complete lack of randomness during battles.  This meant that every battle with the same monster would play out exactly the same, accounting for your exact actions.  This made it easy to figure out the best way to deal with each monster, but it also made the battles extremely boring.

Were cookies being blocked?  That's one of those extremely stupid sites that will never load at all if you don't allow their cookies.

For you to attractively frame and send back?  Good idea, but why don't you do both?

Actually, its Haze, not Blitz II. Still not tickling my fancy at $15.

I just pasted the predictions posted at lightningdeals.com.  They used to post the actual deals, but they've apparently been unable to do so for several weeks now.

If I had a PS3, I might have bitten at that price.  I've certainly paid more for worse games than that in my life.

I scored the full band kit yesterday and immediately busted out the drums to see if there were any problems, and I appear to have avoided any issues there.  Unfortunately, the freaking guitar doesn't work.  All of the controls on the neck stopped working partway into the first song, and they haven't worked since.

Actually, it's an all PS3 day in Amazon's Gold Box today.  On top of the Eye, the lightning deals are PS3 games.  The list is most likely Blitz II, Lego Indiana Jones, Soul Calibur IV, and Tiger Woods 09.

Other PS3 deals going on now:

There's a $100 off deal on a PS3 or Blu-ray player and four Warner Bros. Blu-ray movies.
You can also get a free PS3 remote if you buy three Blu-ray movies from that same list.  I doubt the deals stack.
There's a $10 gift certificate if you pre-order Resistance 2.

Shipping costs can be quite high and places like Amazon charge sales tax on top of that. Not to mention the delay in shipping.

Like you don't have to pay sales tax in a brick and mortar store, anyway.

So am I the only person here who couldn't find it.  Damn thing sold out on Sunday morning while I was at church!  They have the Xbox 360 version but NOT the Wii one, which I guess makes sense.

I forgot to look for it Sunday, and I didn't get to look around until after 7 yesterday.  I could find the game, but not the full kit, but I didn't check many places before giving up.  I have a feeling this is going to be the thing people line up outside stores in the cold for this winter.

Amazon's having a 3 for 2 sale on some DS games, but good luck finding three games you don't already own.  Also, DS Lites are $10 off today, but that's even less amazing.  However, if you know someone who'd like a DS and some games for Christmas, today presents a good opportunity.

I own Tetris DS and like you said having the infinite spins isn't bad really. You can abuse it, however when your at level 46 you NEED them or else you can't play. The blocks are already on the bottom level and you have a split second to decide where to put them, so with infinite you have have more help and can play this game infinitly if your really that good. The NES game you can't go infinite you will reach a point where no human can win, in Tetris DS the only limit is your reflexes.  I have gotten just under 2 Million points in Tetris DS playing on infinite mode and I got ot level 56 or something.

As someone who has maxed out the level and line counts in Tetris DS, I thought that infinite spin meant anyone could play the game until boredom set in, but it looks like I was wrong.  I guess it isn't quite as worthless as I thought, but I still want to play without it.  Of course, that would also require turning the speed back down to pre-infinite spin levels.  Basically, I want an old school mode, and I want to be able to play all the new twists on the gameplay in old school mode.

Don't Booth Babes help you with the controls?  What's wrong with that?

And when it comes to Wii games, I imagine waggle translates to jiggle fairly directly.

I am only as ashamed of this post as I need to be to avoid getting slapped.

So far this week, I've ordered 11 PS2 games that I felt like I missed out on in my Nintendo-only days, but it's okay because Mr. Jack makes me look completely sane by comparison.  In spite of this spike, I can't come anywhere close to him.
