TalkBack / Re: No Hendrix DLC on Wii Guitar Hero
« on: November 18, 2008, 11:30:09 AM »
It's a good thing I don't care for Jimmy Hendrix's music, but I can't help but wonder if anyone else will be so foolish.  I'm pretty sure "integrity of the track pack" really means "ability to sell some songs for a higher price by bundling them with songs that wouldn't sell on their own," so I'm sure it will happen.

This blarg post jumps from complaining about charging used game purchasers for content new game purchasers get for free to complaining about charging everyone for the content.  I don't see why anyone would jump to that conclusion if the stated goal was to discourage the used games market.

Also, I strongly disagree with the line "Capps has all right to be upset by this obvious injustice."  Sure, he has the right to get upset over whatever his tiny brain can perceive, but it is not an injustice to buy and sell used games.  The right to resell a copyrighted work was codified by the Copyright Act of 1976, and it was recognized by the Supreme Court as far back as 1908.

BTW, WoG's piracy rate was no higher than that of DRMed games despite WoG not containing DRM.

I've been looking for a way to work this post into a conversation for a while now, and this looks like the best chance.  Brad Wardell heads Stardock, and he has a (sadly) unique take on piracy.  In a nutshell, pirates aren't customers anyway, so do good by your actual customers instead of worrying about pirates.

Pirates kill people, toss them into the ocean and/or blow up their ships, stop exaggerating.

Copyright infringement has been called piracy for hundreds of years.  Get over yourself.

Children are better at learning than adults at everything, though.  And you don't see many of those new and/or non gamers flooding the gaming fora for the exact reasons you outlined, so I don't get the point of the rant in the first place.

I maintain my position that no one found dualshock-esque controllers overly complicated until Nintendo decided they did.

I find the clicking sticks extremely confusing and unnecessary, personally.

Yeah I remeber him from Power Rangers. He wasn't the original Black Ranger though. He was another Black Ranger in the later seasons.

I see.  When I once saw the original Power Rangers on his credits list I figured that meant he was the first one.

I watch Bleach but I am not really familiar with Voice acters names.

I find it fun to pick out familiar voice actors' voices, which led to me learning several names as I looked for confirmation.

Jonny Von Bosche I haven't heard in a long time.

It's Johnny Yong Bosch, and he's in every single anime in existence.  Also the original Black Ranger.  :)

Lloyd who voices him?

Scott Menville.  He's almost always "Additional Voices."  Other than ToS, I think his only big lead part has been Robin on Teen Titans.

Rail shooters and a Pokemon knock-off?  THAT is the best you can think of?

Rail shooters are awesome, and Monster Hunter isn't a Pokémon knockoff.  What do you think hunters do?  Keep deer as pets?

I might buy it.  I wanted to like the original, but I couldn't get into it because of the mushy bongos.  I liked the idea of controlling the game with bongos, but I couldn't stand the actual controller.  It felt more like hitting a deflated balloon than a real drum.  While I'd rather play the game as it was meant to be played with something more like a real set of bongos, I'd be willing to settle for this if the price is right.

I didn't know Hungry Hungry Hippos had multiple difficulty settings.

I'm waiting for my copy of this to ship.  I chose free shipping, but I hope to have it by the weekend.  At some point I still need to play through ToS a few more times, though.  I haven't seen the Kratos ending, and there's at least one more character I want to hook up with Lloyd.

Umm Ian those types of peripherals existed since the NES, you had your zappers, action pads, alternate controllers, arcade style controllers and so forth.

You're including third party peripherals as well.  I'm not.

He's really not.  The Zapper, Power Pad, Max, and Advantage line up perfectly with that list.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I didn't like how most synonyms broke the rhythm in the name, but after turning it around, I liked the feel of PartyBearPrime.  Now I just need a picture of a giant robot bear to badly paste a party hat on.

I finally got a deal on a giant enemy PS3, and now I find that my favored username is one character over the arbitrary 16 character limit.  Leaving off "Ultimate" makes it non-unique, like any other nick I've ever used, and I hate stuff like user334623, so I don't know what I'm going to do.  I'll edit in my tag here when I finish hating Sony over this and pick something.  If anybody has any suggestions, feel free to PM me.

Edit: PartyBearPrime

Controller quality is definitely hit or miss.  I think I lucked out.  My drum kit is a lot better than I expected after hearing early impressions.  It seems fine to me, actually.  I suppose it could be more sensitive, but it's nothing like what I've seen in videos.  Also, even though my guitar stopped working mid-song on the first day, it's been fine since then.  Apparently it needed a Wii reboot instead of just a game reboot.

I found a $100 note on the floor one time when I was at High School. I was torn on whether or not to keep the money, on one hand I have morals and on the other hand I never had owned $100 note before (our ATMs only give out 20's and 50's, so basically you have to go to a bank if you want 100's). I ended up handing it into lost and found after about 5 minutes of wrestling with my conscience. I gotta say although I was losing $100, it felt good.

3 months later I got a call up to the head office, I thought I was in trouble or something, but no it was the office saying that no-one had claimed the $100 and that they were giving it to me.

I did the same thing in first grade, but it was a dime, which just shows how bad inflation has become.

There might be "walk" and "tip toe" a la la la lala Eternal Darkness.

Or they're just copying RE4.

Nintendo could do run, walk, and tip toe on one analog stick in Super Mario 64.  It's analog.  That means more than two states.

Even beyond the first-person shooter and epic RPG genres that I use as examples, are developers that must think it's pointless to go up against Nintendo games head-to-head.  I can see a developer saying, "I want to make a kart racer, but why on earth would I want to go head-to-head against Mario Kart Wii?  There's no way I'm going to out-Mario Kart Mario Kart."

Sure they could.  Nintendo has certainly out-Mario Karted Mario Kart Wii several times in the past.  8)

Creepy gameplay trailer

I'm scared of these things in real life, but I can't resist that much awesome.  That scorpion's finishing moves are more than cool enough to make up for the game's blatant disregard for scientific accuracy, too.

Incidentally, garbage was part of the Game Boy version of Tetris, so it goes back at least that far.
