TalkBack / Re: December 5th WiFi Night Recap
« on: December 08, 2008, 03:04:44 PM »
I found the lag much more tolerable than any other time I've ever played, and even managed to pull off a few moves I was rather proud of.  It may have had something to do with playing mostly Midwesterners.  There were only two connection problems all night.  I couldn't join any matches when I first signed on, but after getting disconnected it started working.  Later, a match with Shecky and Djunknown suddenly stopped with no warning.

That reminds me... does anyone remember to record matches after they happen.  I always end up mashing next after a match and forgetting about that option.

It seemed like every time I thought a match was interesting enough to keep, I didn't have the option.

I've given myself a nice headache, so it's quitting time.  Thanks for all the fun, everyone.

That trailer really sells the game.  Each solution is wackier than the last.  This game needs competitions to come up with the most bizarre solutions possible.

Andrew Lelchuk?  This is that demonic ghost pirate's most obvious alias yet.

Despite the slight lag in most of the games, I had a lot of fun tonight.  Some of you guys are really good.  I'm pretty sure UPBear and I had some pretty ridiculous character match ups when we were playing each other.  I loved the black and white Ganondorf vs. Bowser match, haha.

I knew things would be interesting when we both started the night as Jigglypuff.  Good times.

But I have to say that my favorite moment of the night so far was winning a game by using Luigi's final smash to allow a bob-omb to stroll into a sleeping Maxi.  :D

I'm about to add people and start.  I expect terrible lag and many losses in my near future.

That stuff about safety sounds like a bit of scaremongering to me, but it's definitely possible.

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Evaluating New Wii Remote Motion Chip Manufacturers
« on: December 05, 2008, 12:39:00 PM »
Motion Plus will still be a big improvement.  It uses a completely different type of sensor.  I am concerned that a change in the sensitivity of the Wii remote could mean that games would play slightly differently with different remotes, though.  Most of the time it probably wouldn't matter, but I can imagine it allowing more finesse in Mario Kart, for example, or moving the threshold between a hard tap and a light one in Let's Tap.  I can also imagine greater sensitivity screwing up the analysis of motions in some games depending on how badly they were programmed.  However, I don't think the improvements will be all that large, and I trust that Nintendo will take all of that into consideration.

They get fewer people calling tech support because talking into the Wiimote doesn't work, for one thing.

I forgot to post it sooner, but Amazon's doing another series of daily game deals.  Today's deals are on Xbox 360 games, including Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts for $25.98.  One of today's games is already gone, so you should probably hurry.

If you're curious what you missed, one day's deals were all discounts for Guitar Hero World Tour guitar bundles (with the Wii version ending up at the highest price for some reason), and another day's were a bunch of crap Wii accessories.  I missed one day myself.

Also, today's video game deal of the day is The Force Unleashed on PS3 for $39.98.

Well, SE ownership has worked out surprisingly well for Taito so far, so I have to say I'm interested in what their influence could do for Eidos.  Besides, WB doesn't exactly have a glowing history in the video game industry.

The Fail Blog youtube channel is a treasure trove.  Most of the videos probably made the rounds before showing up there, but it conveniently brings them together in one place.  There are too many good ones to list (and some duds), but here are some highlights:

Best Man Fail
Gas Station Fail
Balloon Fail
Balloon Launch Fail
Parking Exit Fail
Animal Recording Fail
Exit Fail
Language Fail

And with technology so good, it sounds like there's much less down-to-earth day-to-day problems to solve, so how are people getting those practical learning experiences?

Video games?

I got 39.  I would have hit 40, but I couldn't remember the right name for the TurboGrafx portable.  Of the ones I missed, I might have been able to come up with 8 given infinite time.

It isn't immediately obvious how you're supposed to control running speed, jumping, balance, etc. in the running game with just tapping, for example.  I want to know how much of it is autopilot and how much of it is gameplay.

I couldn't disagree with Matt more on what the game should be like.  He just wants a God of War flight sim.

I never thought that Wing ever justified the action seeing the action itself was retarded. The fact the protagonist was named Heero makes my brain bleed a little. The moment I heard his name, I knew it would be bad.

Yes.  All too often, anime characters are named according to a silly scheme.  In this case it's numbers.  It's not as bad as crap like Allelujah Haptism, though.  ;)  So far the theme in Gundam 00 appears to be "anything completely retarded."

Nah, "broke" as past tense for "break" is archaic at best.  The word "broke" is nowadays almost exclusively used to refer to being out of money, so being literally broke is completely possible.
