Nintendo Gaming / RE:Official DS Sales Thread
« on: March 10, 2006, 06:02:14 AM »
Are the dsl's definitely coming out 2moro? They better because if they don't i'm going to be so angry I will right a letter of my disappointment to nintendo detailing how they are preventing me from buying games for the system since I no longer have my old ds.

Even if the games get a higher rating from the esrb i don't think it will make a difference too much in games that are catered to younger people. Nintendo has often considered Zelda a mature title because it's not the sort of game a child could just pick up and play. So i don't really think Nintendo would mind too much if zelda got T rating.

Naruto 4 is one of the best fighting games I've ever played. We need more games like that from jpn.

i wish my post would've been quoted too... :'( lol

anyway i'm glad to see i'm not the only sick minded individual who loves violence and gore. off topic but i'm yet to watch a horror movie i liked that didn't have excessive gore, and i guess the same could be said for survival horror games.

there are ways to get to the mushroom kingdonm without playing mario.

Ok but seriously, if nintendo had released a sequel to mario 64, like the same gameplay but in a different circumstance, wouldn't we be hearing the same cries of rehashing? also look at mp1 and mp2. i like them both, but i liked the first one better, cuz it was so original. the first fpa. much like how mario 64 was the first 3d platformer. nothing is going to recapture that magic, it can't cuz part of the magic was its novelty. i liked sunshine a lot, i loved how difficult it was, i beat the game after many many months, and i loved it for giving me such an experience. of course it was no mario 64 but how could it be?

Then introduce the revolution. Everything is new now. Every game rpg's, sports games, fps's and fpa's, fighting games, and platformers. They are all going to be unique experiences once again, and furthermore with the many possibilties of the revmote, they can continue to be unique experiences. They are all going to have the magic of being a new experience. I think that is truly what will make this the best system launch ever, the fact that it will be utterly unique.

I want to do stuff like that. I think what would be going to far is to use another peripheral like the eye toy or some other sort of camera you could hook up to a console, and slitting the throats of actual people, of course I know a few people who's deaths i'd like to simulate, but that would be going to far. In the realm of video games i'd love a game, where i'd get to stab Osama bin Laden, or Hitler in the throat and have the controller give resistance feedback. Maybe some think that's going to far, but hey nintendo is trying to attract all gamers right... even the slightly psychotic ones.

Oh yeah, I should say I'm not completely serious.

1. My mouse broke and for a whole day I had to use only the keyboard to navigate. I'm surprised my tab button didn't break damn that sucked.

2. How can you say the actions of the remote are unnatural when you haven't used it. Guess what when you do you'll adapt. Unless of course you suffer from some sort of mental retardation. (not trying to be funny with that)

3. you can't please everybody all the time. nintendo is doing what they believe will make them the most money.

4. the revolution is a bigger better ds, at least imo. Their strategies are the same (attracting non-gamers), and their input devices are similar.

5. anyone else feel like we keep making the same posts in different threads? damn i can't wait for e3 so we can argue about facts, and games.

as maryjane continues his journey down the lonely streets he continues to wonder why he posts in italics. is it really necessary? or can he just do whatever he feels like? no caution is the best approach. in his mind he weeps for the unnecessary deaths of the townies. life isn't fair. where was the police officer in this moment? still wolfing down donuts while society crumbles around him. "I must find this man" he thinks to himself. Will the policeman be an ally in his struggle for survival or an enemy who unjustly turns him to the mercy of the courts? He decides his fate would be better handled by avoiding contact with this man. "I will seek out no man, who does not seek after me" after all cops have never been the friend of maryjane unless they needed a lift.

The townspeople figured that even though they just killed off a townie, at least they got rid of a pothead. Though, some thought, the death penalty is rather harsh for such a crime.

I wish I had known this before i voted for him. Us smokers gotta stick together. After the 70's there are so few of us left after all.

Usually I can at least see where Ian is coming from but now i'm confused.

Nintendo isn't stupid, they're offering this totally new controller. They realize it can't work with everything hmmm what to do. OH i know lets throw in a peripheral free, that'll make it work with just about everything. And for the games that still won't work with that (which will be few, i'll explain why in a bit) we'll offer a traditional style shell (maybe free?).

As for the ds. how is nintendo forgetting about hardcore gamers? last time i checked people love multiplayer. and we're getting what looks to be one of the best multiplayer experiences ever with mp:h, if that game isn't original please tell me what is. Also we're getting a new super mario, in 2D weren't you the one complaining that there's no 2d anymore? Also we got super princess peach, not my bag of chips, but a solid platformer nonetheless. and many many many more one the way in the form of rpgs and other such traditional games.

Do we need the Revolution? No. The remote is in response to a "crisis" about gaming that Nintendo made up.

I personally believe the remote is in direct response to the success of the ds. Hell for all we know the ds was an inexpensive way to test if the revmote would be successful.

Oh i almost forgot, the reason i don't think there'll be a lot of games that need the conv. control. with motion sensing moving in a 3d world could be done without using the directional pad, thus turning them into action buttons. with the nunchuck attachment, added on to that which has an analog stick if you forgot, again the directional pad turns into action buttons. there are so many options with this controller, which is why everyone loves it, without having ever touched it. The possiblities are... i don't want to say endless, but greater than any system has ever offered. oh and the rev is much more than a whateverthehell word he used for the controller. wi-fi, wireless lan, virtual console, and some other things we don't know about yet. that seems like more than a controller and a damn good reason to release a new console.

I dont think good selling non-games will hurt the rev. Developers would want to get these non-gamers to play more traditional games. I mean after all there are only so many cooking games you can make before people stop buying them.

I think we'll actually see a strong return to old school gaming. after all the next best thing to bring in non-gamers is old school, simpler gaming. the old kiss strategy. (keep it simple stupid, for those who don't know).

I'm hoping that if nintendo were to return to the number one position, the split between traditional and non-games would be fairly equal, forcing game development to be the same. I'm always up for new things, I'd play a tennis table game, or a bug killing game, as long as the price was right and i was in the "right mood" (like i am now) to play these games i would. I wouldn't play them as often as my favs but hey just cuz i'm "older" now doesn't mean the child inside me has died. He just hides when guest come over cuz he's shy.

a few on nintendo's past e3 shows have been to put it nicely, sucky. they gave little to no information, and weren't very exciting. if there is a single person who knows what e3 is and isn't anticipating seeing what the revolution can do, whether out of pure curiousity, or interest, they don't have blood in their veins. Nintendo is going for the knockout punch this e3. while they may be graphically inferior, the games will still look beautiful. as that guy points out look at games that were released on the last gen systems.

you asked a lot of why's. the answer to all of them can be found in three words: Because they're Nintendo. whether you take that as a good thing or a bad thing depends on how you view nintendo's current strategy. last gen ps2 was the weakest in graphics yet sold the best. last gen the only good things xbox had going for it were halo and live. this gen the rev will be the weakest, have what is shaping up to be an amazing online system (i really really really hope they put an ethernet port on the rev) it will launch with an fps (fpa if you wanna be technical) that will far outshine halo and while it will be the weakest graphically i doubt it will be significant. now add in a controller that has gotten more buzz than anything else in video gaming for quite sometime. e3 is going to blow everyone away, just with how much information nintendo is going to throw out there. Sony's part in e3 will blow everyone away with how much hot air they blow in everyones face(lol i couldn't help myself).

i wish i could go on vacation until e3 so i could stop thinking about the rev and how much i want it.

I think both 3d gaming and gaming with a finite ending were just natural progressions.
both stem from advancement in video games.

the games that never ended and were based on high scores had a lot of limitations graphically they couldn't create worlds to explore, how do u hav a never ending platformer, or rpg?

3d games also come from graphical advancements. the point of video games has for long time now, been to imitate life, even if within a fantasy setting. having them in 3d allows this more than 2d does.

if the revolution were to change gaming in anyway it wouldn't be that non-games would be the only thing available. the advancements in technology have opened up new genres of gaming not closed off any. 2d and never ending games aren't a genre. they are a way to play. maybe after this generation non-motion sensing gaming will disappear and you'll be forced to play every game using motion. oh no, not exercise, our fat butts don't need more excercise do they? Non-games may become common place, but they aren't going to erase our favorite genres.

Maryjane wakes up from a night filled with smoke blocking his memory of exactly what happened. The two naked girls in the bed suggest it was a good night. He realizes he has an important job to do. He gets dressed and head out the door, realizing that he is not in his own house. As he walks the long road home he watches carefully knowing that people are always after him. Wandering the streets he knows neither whom is foe nor ally. He secretly wonders, as he inhales his self-rolled cigarette, if he has an allies. Do any exist in this cold world he is a part of?

i shall vote for wandering just cuz his name has to do with what i wrote above

i say make this game in three parts

stewies part: trying to kill lois, there would be mini games platform levels, and puzzles that would be traps for lois to fall in, of course she doesn't die until a couple hours in

brians part: trying to bang lois, as any fan knows, brian really wants to do this. it would be the same thing mini games, platform levels, and puzzles, either trying to get lois drunk enough, or perhaps tricking her into thinking brian is mel gibson, george clooney, or some other "male hottie".

peters part: just do his life. dealing with stewie (have the option to help or stop him from killing lois) dealing with brian (same option as stewie) getting a job, the could do the fishing thing, jousting, working at pawtucket brewery, getting lois in the mood after trying to be killed by stewie and banged by brian. again mini games, platform levels, and puzzles.

i don't see any other way to make the game good, and funny.

you forgot, tales of phantasia a game i will most certainly be picking up.

the gb is far from dead. and before it dies it will reborn. gc discs? most likely. 3d screen? sometimes dreams do come true. once again kick the ass of every portable system (besides the ds)? of course.
i can garuntee e3 is going to show a host of gb games, there will probably be more ds games, but the ds is newer so of course it will receive more attention, much like how the rev is going to get more attention than the ds, even though the ds is doing great.

I don't completely agree with ian but his worries are justified.

There are a countless number of posts suggesting that if the rev is succesful sony and ms will probably release copies. (I myself have written a few of those). So why wouldn't that translate to games also? If mp3 sells 2million copies, and the cooking game sells 6million i think its safe to say that big developers and producers are going to want to make more games along the lines of the cooking game than mp3. sales talk. however while there would be a flood of these types of games because of higher sales, we'll still more traditional games with their sales being still good. there are non-gamers who will never pick up anything that is for "hard-core" gamers, or even mario games. that's just they way it is. however there are many people like the ones on this forum who will be strongly supporting the traditional games. whether nintendo is in first or second place, this is going to be the case. i'm hoping they reach first place as i do believe it will affect the entire video game community. and we'd have less rehashes and other such crap.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:First Place
« on: March 07, 2006, 09:18:54 AM »
I think a lot of the problems we have with the way nintendo develops their games stems directly from them being in second place. Lack of third party support means they have to develop more of their own games and that leads to rehashes. they want to sell games and they want to sell them quickly the easiest way to do that is to make games they know people will buy and most people who have a nintendo system will buy games developed by nintendo. 1. because they dont' have too much of an option and 2. because nintendo makes great games. if they're number 1 they can rely on the strong support of third parties and devote more time to originals. it would also free miyamoto out of his current role of hey put you finger in this pie and when people see it they'll buy it cuz everyone loves you. then the greatest idea man ever can go back to coming up with great ideas.

Also i don't think nintendo would turn it's back on hardcore gamers. Look at the ds. The best selling games for it so far are these so called non-games. Yet we still have mp:h coming out, plus some good looking rpg's. I do believe that we will see a boatload of non-games on the revolution, no matter how succesful, or unsuccesful it is.

something tells me the origami isn't going to have too great of an impact on anything. its trying to attack three different markets, the only one that's open for competition really is tablet pc's. portable gaming is owned by nintendo, with sony making acceptable sales. portable music is owned by apple, with a few others making acceptable sales. the origami has no wiggle room to slide into either of those markets.

Nintendo tells me that people are getting bored with gaming as is or that they need to reinvent the controller to innovate.  I don't agree with any of that so I don't agree with the reason for the change and thus I'm not very enthusiastic about it.  What's there isn't broken and what's being brought in hasn't been proven to be better.  That sounds too much like change for the sake of change.

at first the rev controller is going to take some getting used to and it will be imprecise, but the human mind has this weird thing called adaptation, and it also has the ability to learn go figure.

i don't know about the rest of you, but for me every controlller takes getting used to. when i play with an xbox, i feel like someone just threw me a brick with indents and said play. i have to get used to just playing with controllers from different systems, even nintendo systems. the touchscreen took getting used to, everything takes getting used to. even the individual battle systems in games. should everything remain stagnant to satisfy those who fear change? you know racist, sexicist,  and masoganists, also fear change. stagnation prevents progress, change encourages it.

Nintendo isn't the one saying people are getting bored with video games. the declining sales (not only for nintendo) are saying that people are getting bored with video games. and why do you suppose that is? no innovation. more of the same gets tired quick.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:First Place

For the most part I agree with bigjim, but here are my own answers just the same:

"What would happen if they became #1?"

To put it simply Nintendo would take Sony's place. No duh right? But what I mean by that is the number of third-party exclusives Sony gets would shift nicely under Nintendo's umbrella. But there's a little more to it than that. Judging by the quality (or lack thereof) of ps games, I think it would be safe to presume that Sony gives third-party developers pretty much free reign. This is not the case with Nintendo, at least not too often. With Nintendo in the number 1 position they would have the ability to dictate some guidelines for their games. Now obviously they don't want to bully developers and scare them away, but i think they'd expect more of them, and we'd all benefit. Also I would have to say that Sony would move into the number 2 position. Xbox's only sell in the U.S. and initially sony will be strong no matter what happens later. people are generally loyal when it comes to any kind of major electronics. Also I think it'd be rather difficult for sony or ms to copy the controller. Not that the controller itself would be hard to duplicate, but rather the receiver that Nintendo is using to make sure it works with all t.v's. That technology has to be pretty proprietary, as in right now it's the only way to do it. so Ninty's competitors would have a good deal of trouble going around the patent.

"Would Nintendo being #1 with the revolution effect their handhelds at all?"

I think it would. There was another thread, the revolutions last big secret. Here's what came to me while reading big jim's post. What if the one of the last secrets (hopefully not the BIG one) is that the rev will play games from every system right out of the box. this is actually just an expansion of the thought that the ds will have connectivity to the revolution. the revolution is sort of a ds for the t.v so i don't think it would be difficult. Being able to play gba and ds games on the rev will boost sales of those games as well. If someone doesn't have a need for portable gaming, then it's like hey, I can still play these awesome games and not need to buy another system. While that technically hurts the sale of the portables, the games are what counts, that's where all the money comes from, and it's also one of the ways developers decide whether or not its worth making a game. Even if it can't play every game from every system right out of the box, don't be surprised to see DS connectivity, especially since it could easily be done with wires, and sony and ms are doing it.

"Is it even possible for the revolution to boost Nintendo to #1 again?"

Anything is possible in this world. If back in the SNES days you told me that in a couple years Nintendo was going to 3rd overall in sales in the U.S, 2nd in the world, and Sega was no longer going to make consoles. I would have laughed you to scorn. But look at us now. As i mentioned before I believe Sony will be initially strong even if they later flounder. However, also as I mentioned before the Rev is sort of a DS for the t.v, and if the DS is anything to gauge by, the Rev has a good chance of becoming #1.

"I'm wondering what do you guys think (even the haters)"

I think I'm going to start making it clear when I make a tongue in cheek comment. lol. While I know there are no real haters, there are people who love to disagree. I read a lot of books, and every book is worthless without an antagonist,  if a "hater" posts, thought is stimulated, and we may surprise ourselves with the respones we come up with defending our thoughts. That's what I think anyway.
