That's a good question.  My guess is you put two characters on and then once registered, it will allow you to put two more characters on and then you fight a timed battle a la Smash Bros.

I think if it is as powerful as PS4, then it'll compete directly with it through at least 2020.  I think both Sony and Microsoft want at least 7 years out of these consoles and probably would prefer even more.  Nintendo has usually been on a 5 year cycle for their consoles.  The Wii U and the Wii together will be 10 years (if the console version comes out this year). So it'll line up well if their next console comes out in 2021, a year after or right with the PS5/NeXtBox.

Rerelease I'm guessing.  Maybe they stopped making it for awhile and now they are hoping people will want it again with the Animal Crossing Amiibo out there.

Why is anyone surprised that there is no Pokemon Z? Black and White didn't get a 3rd version either. So maybe now that both Generation V and VI didn't get 3rd versions, maybe people won't be asking for a "Pokemon Earth" in a couple of years.
I was thinking Pokemon Star but I guess Earth works too.

I'm just hoping that by renaming it Nintendo NY that it means there will be other stores opened such as Nintendo LA or Nintendo SF or something like that.

Has the One gone below triple digits yet? Next week may be the One.

I think if they use the amiibo cards again, it'll be for the next gen Pokemon game or possibly for Pokken Tournament.  With the amount of characters in those games, I could see Nintendo trying to cash in on allowing people to pay to catch them all.  Maybe people can catch them all through the game or pay for the cards and get them that way.

Actually, I finally got mine working.  Turns out I could still log in, it was just my email address that wasn't verified.  I suggest trying to log in with the email and password that you set up (or through your linked account).  Then it logged me in and just showed that my email wasn't verified (mine was gmail btw).  So I had them resend the verification email and everything worked.

Its nice to see the new account system. Miitomo sounds like it could be fun too, but I dont have an iOS or Android device.

I never get the email either in my regular inbox or spam folder.

I got the email straight away.
I wish I did.  I rechecked my email and I didn't typo the thing.

Still a shortage of Wii U's in Japan I guess.

Am I the only one having issues?  I've tried three times now.  They state they are emailing me a code to input on the site.  I never get the email either in my regular inbox or spam folder.  Then it states it doesn't work after an hour.  Well if they never send me the email with the code, how could I complete it in an hour?

If they somehow also added the Ice Climbers, it might make some people go nuts.

Japan has never been that enamored with the Zelda series and most Musou games on the 3DS haven't been big sellers.  So it's not that surprising really.

I've still got this on DVD.  I highly enjoyed it and I think it was worth the money when I bought it.

Splatoon and Mario Maker seem to be fueling the Wii U to new interest.  These are reasons why I think Nintendo will still wait for the full 5 year cycle to release the NX, at least the home console portion.

Is this really the best selling 1st/3rd person shooter of all time in Japan?

not really, Christmas could yield big numbers for PS4 and Wii U both but the gap is closing and within reach if holiday sales are strong. I already have a Wii U and a PS4, it is Xbox One that I am looking at next.
There will not be over 600k more PS4s sold than Wii Us by the end of the year.  Just not going to happen, unless I'm misinterpreting what you're saying.

Based on Cloud joining SSB, I think it'll eventually get released for the NX. Or not.

I actually love the curved edges on U discs. I hope it carries on to the next console. Just a nice little touch I wish they had been doing since they began using discs.
I'd rather they focus on the discs being durable.  The PS3 and bluray discs are extremely durable.  I wouldn't worry about a scratch on top or minor scratches on the bottom surface because of the protection layer.  Sounds like that is not the case with the Wii U though.

I decided to preorder Chibi Robo on Amazon.  It'll be my second one along with Silver Mario.  I'm hoping to pick up the Splatoon 3 pack at some point for retail price.  I don't know if or when Nintendo will restock that one though.

Bayonetta 2 (comes with Bayonetta 1) for $35 at Gamespot. 11/10/15

For Black Friday, Splatoon is $35 (or $29 with Gamer's Club discount) at BB.  Cheapest I seen it go in the NA.

When did Gamespot start selling games?

Halo 5 actually has me very interested in the Xbox One right now. I am waiting till after Christmas to see what money I have left over but I am 90% sure I will be getting one soon, if I don't get a new PC instead which I have been on the fence for a while.
Get a new PC instead.  Way more practical and all the games on the XBO are likely to be on the PC.  Halo 5 you can play on it in a year when the XBO drops to $150 with the rate they are going.

I'd like to point out that when Sony says 10 years, that does not preclude them from releasing another system inbetween. They stated 10 years with the PS2 and did continue support through I think 11 years with it.  PS1 lasted with them selling it for 10 years as well.   My guess is the PS3 will be sold through 2018 at this point making it a 12 year console.

I think the PS4/XB1 will last as far as MS decides to keep it on the market.  They are really the ones who have been impatient in the past and I think if they continue to be second place and continue to lose money on the XB1, they will either start the next gen earlier than most hope or sell the Xbox division and get out of the console market.  I think Sony is in the same mindset of Nintendo in that they want to ride the system as long as they can like Nintendo with the original NES.

Wouldn't surprise me if the top 3 sellers on Wii U end up as SmUsh, Mario Kart VIII, and Mario Maker.

With the kind of legs Splatoon seems to be having in Japan, I imagine it's gotta be up there.
I think she's referring to North America.  Last we heard, Splatoon had hit 500k in NA.  So it's a slower one than the three she mentioned.

Ian, we've seen Nintendo announce a game a month ahead of the release date before.  I wouldn't put it past them to be frantically trying to finish this remake in time for the holiday season just to have something else to fill the Star Fox hole.
