You guys are all wrong. Games should not be on either carts nor on discs, but instead on cardboard cards like they  were with the GBA E-Reader device. :P I just wonder how much space on a cardboard card it would take in order to hold enough bar codes for a typical current gen game.... On the E-Reader all that was done were simple NES games where the sizes are measured in mere Kilobytes and not megabytes or even gigabytes like they are today.

There doesn't need to be more skin, because curve-hugging Lycra does the trick nicely. That's the beauty of Samus' zero suit outfit. If only her REAL armor were the same way...

I think another issue with the swordfights is that even if you are successful in blocking the attacks you will reach a point where your sword breaks through no fault of your own.  If this happens in a fight, you will lose that fight even if you performed the blocks perfectly.

Are you really complaining about challenges that are meant to be difficult?

There's difficult and then there's frustrating. The difference is difficult is something that isn't easy but you can do it with practice or if you're a good gamer, but frustrating is when the controls are ridiculous and unresponsive to what you're trying to accomplish. Like Ian pointed out with the game not responding to right turns... I suppose that does fit the challenge of being difficult, but its a difficulty that doesn't go away no matter how good a gamer you are. I really don't think the developers intended unresponsive motion controls to be part of the game's design. It was an error that makes the game a bit more challenging, but also a LOT more frustrating.

I think it was originally. But it isn't strapped on to him so I think it is a shell.

In Super Mario World when he first appeared I'm almost certain that was a saddle. It is possible Nintendo altered things around since then and decided it is something that is fused to his body (aka: shell).

Ok so what types of power ups would you like to return? Got any ideas of your own power up?

I want to see more redundant novelty power suits like the ones we saw in SMB3 like the boot thing and the one where mario turns into a statue. If I'm not mistaken, these things only appear in like 1 level and are pretty much completely useless except as a conversation piece while playing the game with friends.

The next standard for display beyond HD will probably be 3D.

I had a lot of difficulty on the stingray courses as for some reason I couldn't get the remote to acknowledge my right turns.  It literally took like 10 minutes to get past the little tutorial because try as I might the remote just wouldn't co-operate with me.

Did you try the stingray course on the planet of trials? You get there when you've saved the 3 green stars and they open up a portal to it near to the spaceship on the observatory. There is also a very tough bubble course and something else as well... I did beat them all, but it was very difficult and frustrating and looking back I shouldn't have done it because I didn't collect every star in the game anyway so I shouldn't have bothered with those.

Anyway, I'm just saying if you've had difficult with just the tutorial (which I did too) then wait til you get to that huge course that you have to beat in under 5 minutes or something... the only good thing I can say is that it is fairly easy to pick up some 1up mushrooms in it so you can keep at it pretty much indefinitely without getting a game over.

I think there was only like 2 or 3 times where I've ever won a swordfight, not counting against a boss... Ningurl is absolutely right that those onscreen indicators show up too late to be of any help.

I don't know what the deal is with that monster hunter game is, but as soon as the Wii gets its own version its going to propel it to great heights.

Wii 3 is Nintendo's final phase in destroying the industry.

Wii 3 is when gamers go outside.

By the time we get to Wii 3 I think it will be a system where you wear a virtual reality thing on your hand and you wear something like the power glove, except its infiniely more advanced.. and maybe there are power boots too for your feet, and there aren't any controllers whatsover because you would have 1:1 movement of your body controlling the movement of Mario in the visor, so controllers and even televisions themselves would be obsolete.

I might be in the minority, but I didn't really enjoy the stingray and bubble courses in Galaxy, because I kept getting killed in them and they frustrated me to no end. I eventually did beat them, but it took me many lives and a lot of wasted time doing it. It wasn't fun to me at all, and once I was finished with them it was a huge relief.

The rest of the game for me was enjoyable and it was challenging but not to the extent of being frustrating.

Ohh yeah, I can see it now, I'm gonna pull my Wii2 out of my pocket and flip the screen open.
Then I'm gonna ask my friend to hold it for me while I pull out my WiiMote. Now people sitting next to me will be frantically dodging my waggling swings as I struggle to see whats on the screen.

"can you hold it closer!?" I would say to my friend. " I can't see the screen"
*whack*
"whoops, you got too close!"

not gonna happen. Just because the Wii is small enough to become a handheld, doesn't mean it should become one.
But if it makes you feel any better, the DS2 should have GC capable graphics with a good battery life.

When its in its handheld form it wouldn't use a controller. It would probably be like the DS and use a touchscreen, but I think Nintendo could take this a step even further and convert the Stylus into a miniature sort of wii-mote which would obviously have to be stripped down in order to make it small enough to be held like a stylus and to be portable. Think of it as a wii-mote/stylus hybrid that only has like one or two buttons because that's all there is room for on it.

Games played in handheld mode would play very differently than when they're played in console mode. You'd probably still have games that would be deisgned for just one mode of play and wouldn't work in the other, but there might also be games where they offer both modes.

But then someone might say, "well, why not just keep the handhelds and consoles separate from each other like they are now?" In response to that I would say its better to have a system that can morph into both because then you only have to buy ONE system instead of two, which means you don't have to spend as much. Its also better because your game library can be limited to just one device, and game developers can just target that system instead of making two different versions... even though that one game might operate in different modes of play.

And as for the mini-wii-mote/stylus thing I proposed, I don't think you'd have problems with people swinging it around violently and causing injury, because 1) it would be very tiny and wouldn't hurt anyone even if it did hit them and 2) since its tiny you would hold it between your thumb and forefinger and move it like a stylus instead of a club or a sword.

If MotionPlus is as great as we're all thinking it is, will we ever be able to go back to playing games that DON'T use it?

If they go much smaller for consoles they will start competing directly with handhelds, mobiles and iPods.

I think what we are going to see in the future is consoles and handhelds becoming one and the same. Consoles like the Wii 2 will be the size of a Nintendo DS, and will work just like one, but it will also be possible to hook them up a TV and to use controllers with them. These future "consoles" can instantly become handhelds just by unplugging them from the TV and then opening up their clam shell design to reveal their tiny built in screens.

Then you can play it in the car or on the bus on your way to your friends house, and then when you're there just fold it back up and hook it up to his tv and break out a couple controllers and you're back in business.

I don't think they should remove the GC compatibility per se, but I wouldn't mind if they stripped out the GC card and controller ports and just let you use the classic controller and regular wii storage for saving your GC games. That's all Nintendo has to do... and maybe release some new wavebird thing that works with the Wii's built in bluetooth capability. Then they could stop making the classic controller and just use that for all VC and GC games.

Then everyone would be happy, and by stripping out the redundant GC ports they might be able to shave off some of the wii's manufacturing costs.

What's the point of having those games on the Wii?

The point of making them on the Wii is because if they aren't on the Wii then they have to be on the PS3 or 360 or else not exist at all. If you don't like them, just don't buy them. I don't see why you are offended by them existing when no one is forcing you to play them.

And having them on the Wii even thought they can be done on other systems is important because not everyone owns these other systems. Most households that own video games will likely only have one system, which this generations fortunately happens to be a Nintendo system. If you're a Nintendo fan, why do you want them to abandon the hardcore audience and just focus on waggle party games?

You don't think its possible that Birdo could be sexualized? Hell, look at Candy Kong from the DK franchise or Krystal. Here you have female characters that aren't even human for crying out loud, and yet they are sexualized.

I'm holding out on a DSi until there is more than one piece of compelling software available for D/L.

Plus there will probably be a price drop or bundle offers or something the longer you wait...

But in my case I really couldn't wait because I sold my DS Phat back in like February and have been without a DS since then. I think I did the smart thing by selling the Phat BEFORE this came out rather than afterwards because I got $95 for my Phat which is more than I probably should have hoped for. But then again, Phats are pretty rare and since no more of them are being made I wonder if they might not be worth something as a collector thing, or will be worth something at some point.

Maybe link goes on a hallucinogenic trip (bad mushrooms from the mushroom kingdom?) and now he imagines his sword talking to him.

That, or in his hallucination he imagines that some innocent girl is his sword...

Girl: "Somebody help!"

Link: "Shut up! Swords don't talk"

Girl: "I'm not a sword! Let me goooooo!"

Link: "I don't hear you. LA LA LA LA LA LA"

Ian, alcohol does have some redeeming qualities in that if you drink it in moderation it is good for your heart.

Depends on what kind. Wine is healthy in moderation (comes from grapes). I'm pretty sure beer has no health quality aside from helping you unwinde from a hard day at work ;)

The Hops in beer are highly beneficial.

I bought an original DS Phat back in 2005 for $149 and now I just bought a DSi for $169. I never thought in a million years that I would be buying a system and then 4 years later be buying a revision of it for $20 more!  :o

The DS is such a hot system that not only does its price not go down, it actually goes UP!

Can there ever be a female videogame heroine that isn't sexified? I mean, there needs to be a game where the heroine looks and dresses like Velma from Scooby Doo.
