Voice, like motion control, is sci-fi tech.  It looks cool in a movie so everyone wants it without thinking how ridiculous impractical it would be to use in the real world.  They put that stuff in movies because it looks cool and is more visual stimulating then seeing someone slowly working a normal computer.

Even with the issue of precision aside, I don't think speaking can be as fast or efficient as an old fashioned mouse or keyboard. In the amount of time it would take someone to verbally command a computer to do a certain function someone could just simply use a mouse and keyboard to cycle through a drop down menu and then have it done with a single mouse click. That's a lot easier, quicker, and simpler than saying "computer scroll down. computer highlight this. Computer cut this. Computer paste this." That's a relatively simple task, but to perform it with voice commands would take a lot of time, and I'm not really even sure how it could work... but with a mouse and keyboard you can do it in like 5 seconds.

General Chat / AntiSec Hacking group leaks 1 million Apple user IDs
« on: September 04, 2012, 02:36:32 PM »
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/technology-blog/hacking-group-leaks-1-million-apple-user-ids-161351857.html

Quote
According to the Anonymous-allied hackers, a list of 12.4 million Apple Unique Device Identifiers (UDID) was found on an FBI agent's Dell notebook. Each UDID was associated with user names, device info, and in some cases, phone numbers, names, and addresses. It is unknown why the FBI would have such information on hand. AntiSec leaked 1,000,001 of those UDIDs to bring light to the government's data collecting effort

Oh no UDIDn't!

That's too much...I've never paid more than $35

Where and how do you do that? I personally don't care because I don't have a 360, but I think others here would like to know.

So what's up with 2012?

I think we are going to be ushered into a new golden age starting with the Wii U only a month in advance.

What I hope happens on December 21st:

Extraterrestrials will come down to Earth and invite humanity into joining their United Federation of Planets (or whatever) and there will be peace and a new Golden age, and we and our new Alien friends can play Mario Kart together on the Wii U.

What I fear might happen instead:

1) Same as above, except the Aliens end up being a colonizing or conquesting force, and they steal the Wii U's and send them back to their homeworld leaving us with nothing.

2) Someone somewhere in the world detonates a nuke, and WW3 ensues leaving no one (or almost no one) left alive to play the new Wii U. Even for the few who might survive, the world will be plunged into the darkness of a nuclear winter. There will be no electricity with which to play the Wii U (if any of them managed to survive the nuclear blasts). Nintendo as a company would probably cease to exist.

Voice would be awesome.

It sounds good in theory, just like how waggle control sounded good in theory. The problem with both of them is they are horribly imprecise. You will want something to happen, but it will get registered differently and then something else completely different ends up happening. Its very frustrating. At least with a keyboard it does exactly what you tell it to. Sure, you can make typos by hitting the wrong keys, but if you do that's not the keyboard's fault.

People should change their avatars to pirates like they did with Batman.

the 720 is farther along than the PS4.

This is what I figured because we are hearing so much more about the next Xbox in the way of rumors than the PS4. With the PS4 there's hardly anything being mentioned, except that so and so developer is starting development of a game for it.

But if this is the case, while Sony might be 2 years off with their system, when it finally does come out it will probably be a beast in comparison to the Wii U and Xbox420. They will have a lot of catching up to do with market share, but they will have the edge in specs.

I would get rid of keys all together, but i like the feel of keys.

What if the keys were literally keys which you then put into a keyhole and turned? In my opinion this is what a keyboard should be... a board for keys.

285
What if someone took the motion gimmick of the wiimote and combined it with a keyboard into some new weird hybrid thing? You remember the video at E3 of the Wii U tablet being able to snap onto the Wii Zapper? Well what if there was a PC Zapper equivalent, and then a keyboard could snap on to the back, and then a mouse could go where the nunchuck goes... but on top of all that, you can also use the motion control aspect of the PC Zapper. Imagine how such a device would revolutionize PC Gaming.

Seriously, did you guys know the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is based off the Secret of Monkey Island?

Look how awesome the poster lineup in this thread was. This place has really gone downhill.

2005 was the last full year of Nintendo being awesome. It was in 2006 when the waggle Wii Wii came out and things have gone downhill ever since. All those great posters who were here in 2005 have left in disgust. Hopefully the Wii U can turn that around. If it can, then maybe these old posters will return at last? We shall see.

They pointed out that "even in basic input, the keyboard and mouse, haven't really changed much in any meaningful way over the years," so...they might just be making new input devices.

It could be both. Probably best if they do both, because that way if the Steambox fails for whatever reason, they could then fall back on the input devices just like what ended up happening with that Phantom console thing years ago. Its wise to have a plan B in place in case plan A doesn't work out.

I just checked Zeldainformer.com to see if there was any rumors I could find there to defibrilate this thread back to life, but couldn't find anything noteworthy. Usually BnM and Caterkiller post stuff, but I guess they got tired of it. I just wonder how they managed to dig up their scoop, when mere mortals like us can't seem to find anything.

Here is a legend which could possibly explain why one of these celebrities looks so much like people who lived hundreds of years ago. Perhaps Nicholas Cage, John Travolta, Keanu Reeves, or whoever is none other than the legendary Wandering Jew? But if the legend is true it can only account for one person. So who is it?

And for further reading on the subject, check this guy out:

Maybe its just me, but the guy's head in the first picture looks disproportionately small compared to the rest of the body. Just like those Goombas from the Super Mario Bros. movie....

I never heard of this Nintendo Gamer magazine, but then again I'm not British. Between the demise of Nintendo Power and this, what do we as Nintendo fans have left in the way of print magazines? Is there anything left?

I'd like to see them do a Brutal Legend 2. I think the first one was highly underrated.

I don't know who this Tyler fellow is, but he's putting Nintendo innuendo in the headlines.

Innuetendo?

Ninuendo.

I like this one better, but both were good.

Even if objects did expand with the growth of the universe, their growth would be equally relative to everything else so it wouldn't even mean anything.

Oblivion, you should get something out of the deal for your troubles. You could insist they give you a slice or two, or only pass some of the discount on to them, and then you can pocket the rest. That way everyone wins.

If you know someone who works at a retail store they tend to get employee discounts of like 15% off. Give them the money and have them buy it for you at the reduced cost.

I'm 20 I don't remember any of that stuff.

And I'm not sure how that is reflective on a good product today.
