You give some 12 year old kids the freedom to draw and be creative and what you end up with are penises.

I don't understand people's disappointment.

I don't either. Considering everything else we have concerning the Wii U to be disappointed in, the lack of storage is really trivial. Most people say its the games that matter most about a system, so let's focus on that instead. Where's the games? Forget the storage... if there isn't any games you don't need to worry about that anyway.

A year ago the Wii U seemed full of promise and there was talk of things like Battlefield 3, GTA, and so on. Where is all that? This is the REAL reason people should be disappointed. Once again Nintendo is getting the same shitty 3rd party support it has for the last 15 years.

Storage? That's pretty trivial in comparison.

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Stock Drops After E3 Presentations
« on: June 07, 2012, 11:33:08 PM »
So basically this is just a repeat of E3 2011.

I'm glad Nintendo's stocks are taking a blow. Its been obvious over these last few years that Nintendo doesn't care what core gamers think, but I know they do care what their stockholders think... so this should get their attention. When a few people on a fan site complain about the lack of games Nintendo doesn't give a ****, but when the stockholders dump their stock, now they'll give a ****.

It doesn't happen often, but this time at least I think the stockholders are right on the money. They were wrong about Nintendo needing to go third party and support Android and Ipad, but this time they are dead right. The more we learn about the Wii U the more its looking like its doomed to failure. Its like Nintendo went OUT OF THEIR WAY to make the console look exactly the same as the Wii, and the name "Wii U"? Yeah, how could that possibly get people confused? I'm sure consumers will look at the Wii U and immediately know its something different from the Wiis that are gathering dust in their living rooms.

I don't know if Nintendo has noticed or not, but Wii system and software sales have seen a sharp decline these last few years. The fad is wearing off.... no one cares anymore. So how do they respond to a declining fad? They pump out more of the same. Am I the only one who can already see how this is going to go very wrong? Apparently the investors agree. The Wii fad is over. This isn't 2007 anymore.

TalkBack / Re: Wii U Designed For Horizontal Placement
« on: June 07, 2012, 07:05:44 PM »
The real reason they are making it horizontal only is because this way they don't have to include a stand which helps them save a little bit of money.

Miyamoto's explanation that they "didn't want it to look like the Wii" is a joke and it would be laughable, except for the fact he might actually be serious... which makes it more sad than funny.

You know, you could get banned for calling people idiots... ::)

I doubt that, considering even the moderators on here like to insult people (mainly by giving them offensive titles under their name).

To be fair, 8GB is double what the low end 360 gives you. That said, anything less than 160gb is inadequate for a modern HD system, and anything less than 20GB is an outright joke. What can you do with 8GB? You're lucky if you can install just one full sized retail game with that much space.

I'll just leave my controller wired 100% of the time, just like I do right now with my dualshock3 controller. Why do I need wireless if I'm only a few feet away from the system anyway?

The name of the game should be changed from Zombi U to Zomwii U.

Get it? :)

General Gaming / Re: Microsoft's New Pricing Model
« on: June 07, 2012, 01:09:14 AM »
They aren't making a new thing, though... the 360 is 7 years old. The design of the circuit board and all that might be new, but they are condensing all of that down and simplifying the process so it should be getting cheaper. Its a new version of an old thing, but it still should be cheaper than it was 5 years ago.

General Gaming / Re: Microsoft's New Pricing Model
« on: June 07, 2012, 12:49:40 AM »
Not if it's still selling at w/e it's current price point is. Plus, the components have been updated considerably to reduce the failure rate.

They've also been updated considerably to reduce the manufacturing cost, I'm sure. The Wii U is coming out and the 360 generation is coming to an end, so Microsoft should strongly consider a real price cut. Sony should as well.

yet Nintendo did not take the opportunity to deliver the Final Blow with a better lineup of games.

I understand that sort of criticism, but to be fair its not like they can pull a better lineup of games out of their ass... games take months if not years to make, so the seeds had to have been sown a long time ago before they could be reaped now. Sure, Nintendo should have made better preparations in the past... I'm just saying they can't change course in a moment's notice. Its like with the Titanic... even thoguh they seen the iceberg before they hit, that huge ass ship takes a long time to turn or stop so the collision with the iceberg was still unavoidable. Now, if the crew of the Titanic had a much earlier warning of the iceberg and more time in which to turn then yeah they could have avoided it.

But that analogy doesn't fully apply because there is never not a time when Nintendo shouldn't be releasing games, and if the studios they do have aren't enough to keep up with the task then they need more studios, plain and simple. This is something they need to have been doing years ago... its too late to do anything about the droughts of today, but they need more studios so this doesn't happen ever again.

How many current gen games run natively at 1080p?

Yeah, but its not the current gen systems that the Wii U will be competing with.

The xbox 360 is 7 years old now, so it should see a price drop to $99 anyway without any hoops or hassle.

I'm still holding out hope that Nintendo will wow us at some point.  The majority of games that have been announced have been western games.  Maybe they are holding onto the 3rd party Japanese games for their own conference in Japan to show those games.

But what are the odds those Japanese games will come over to these shores? Let's not forget it took Operation Rainfall fighting tooth and nail to give us Last Story and Xenoblade. Will the same have to be done for Japanese Wii U games?

1292
The problem with any "free" game you get on PlayStation Plus, if my memory is correct, is that you lose access to those games if you ever end your subscription. That is crap, and not good.

Even the games you pay for aren't really yours permanently. There will come a time years from now when PSN gets shut down and whatever you bought on there will be inaccessible to you. It may not happen anytime soon, but it will happen eventually.

Well, I guess they have to do this in baby steps. The HD thing is completely new to them, after all.

That said, 1st party games a few years from now hopefully will have moved up to 1080p by then. Its forgivable if the launch titles don't.

"You're healthy, good looking and rich, but ugh, you should re-evaluate your entire way of life."

Kim Kardashian and Lindsey Lohan are "healthy, good looking, and rich" but yet it would be fair to say they need to re-evaluate their way of life, no?

Being rich and/or good looking isn't everything. If money is the only thing that matters to you, then by that logic Nintendo is doing fine (for now). But to a lot of people being liked and respected also matters, and just having a lot of money isn't going to do that. If you have to cheap yourself down and whore yourself out like Kim Kardashian to make your money then people won't respect you.

The casuals do not like or respect Nintendo. They've already moved on to their Kinects and Ipads. Will they come back to Nintendo for the Wii U? Who knows. My feeling is that the Wii U will do well, but probably not quite as well as the original Wii did. It won't be a commercial flop like the Gamecube, but its not going to be sold out continually for 3 straight years like the Wii was either. Maybe this decline will be enough for Nintendo to re-evaluate their decisions. Casuals aren't loyal the way core gamers are. Selling out on your loyal fans just to make a quick buck off non-gamers who buy like 2 total games (Wii Sports and Wii Fit, probably) may work out well in the short term, but it will fail in the long run.

TalkBack / Re: Mass Effect 3 Announced for Wii U
« on: June 06, 2012, 06:12:58 PM »
It's not possible for the first one to arrive though.

Why not? I keep asking what the terms of that exclusive publishing deal Microsoft has were and no one answers, so I assume no one knows... well if no one here knows that's fine, but since we don't know we also don't know that its permanent... and personally I don't think its likely that it is permanent. Maybe the exclusive deal was for 5 years? Well guess what, 2007 when the first game came out was exactly 5 years ago, so just maybe that deal has just recently expired? It would make sense to me.

TalkBack / Re: Mass Effect 3 Announced for Wii U
« on: June 06, 2012, 06:10:51 PM »
I think its likely they will toss in an interactive comic at a bare minimum, so at least the basics of the story from the first game are covered. Its also not impossible they could bundle ME2 or even ME1 (if that exclusive deal has expire... does anyone know if it has or when it will?) which would make the Wii U version of the game more like "Mass Effect Trilogy".

Maybe EA doesn't want to announce it as "Mass Effect Trilogy" just yet because they still want Mass Effect 3 to sell as much as possible, since its still a relatively new game. Maybe them calling it "Mass Effect 3" on the Wii U is just a ploy to fool people into thinking its not the complete trilogy so they don't hold back on buying what's already out?

All I can say is thank god for Ubisoft. They are the only 3rd party developer which came through and gave the Wii U any meaningful support. I hope this isn't what the entire life of the system is going to look like, but no matter how you slice it this is a really shitty start for the system.

Will that affect online performance? I wish Nintendo included an Ethernet port (unless they did already and I didn't get the memo). I wonder why they're so against it.

My guess is they just figured WiFi was "good enough", and that they could shave off the 2 bucks or whatever it would have cost them to slap an ethernet port on.
