Nintendo Gaming / RE:Predict the Daily Update Thread.
« on: September 23, 2007, 06:42:59 PM »
Alright. So in case your wondering, at the end of every weekend, I will repost the leaderboard in a post at the end of this thread. It will also be posted in the first post. During the week, only the leaderboard on page one will be updated. I will not post it in the daily guessing until the end of the weekend. That way, at the start of every week, people are refreshed as to where they stand and can go from there.

Now, there was a lot of activity on the leaderboard due to the Snake update and many guesses of a Character update. Of those guesses, Pap64 got 6 points for correctly predicting a genreal and specific update. Stevey received 3 points for guessing a character reveal and it being a 3rd party reveal. He could have got an extra point if he had not also predicted the character to be Malon and Megaton since that appears to be trying to cover a bunch of guesses into one. PartyBear, Smash_Brother, Khushrenada, Sessha and Luigi Dude all received 2 points.

Here is the board as of Sept, 21, 2007:

Mashiro - 14
UERD - 11
Stevey - 9
Khushrenada - 8
Louieturkey - 6
Pap64 - 6
PartyBear - 6
Sessha - 6
Anubis6789 - 4
Golden Phoenix - 4
Luigi Dude - 4
Smash_Brother - 4
Spak-Spang - 4
TVMan - 4
Bill Aurion - 2
Rachetman - 2

And now I too will join the longing for a new stage update with my prediction for Sep. 24, 2007:

(General) Stages
(Specific) Mario Kart stage - "Mario Circuit"
(Superspecific) Blue shells come into play and hurt fighters

I didn't win this game; this game is null and void.  There was absolutely no skill involved, it was completely luck-based.

I don't mean to sound like a dick, but this game barely resembled mafia at all.  It was closer to Perm's zombie game.  We need a straight-up, no frills mafia game for our next round.  Mafia godfather, mafia henchmen, cop, doctor, townies.  That's it.  Also, godfather should come up as mafia, not a townie.

I would argue that. I still used a bit of skill to get the win. But it was definitely more luck based than my other wins. And yes, I've mentioned to a few people and I believe I posted this when talking about my new game that it would be a straight up simple mafia. No new roles, and in fact, roles will be limited. A lot of townies.

My beef with mafia so far is that few people actually actively participate beyond voting.  Few talking to anyone in PM or through public channels, few are really trying to figure things out.  The last three games have hinged on either me or Khush putting things together for the townies, and no one else really plays, except for the mafia members.

Players need to get out there and take a risk.  What's the worst that could happen?  You accidentally make friends with mafia?  If you do things right, that can help you live longer, anyways.  It makes the game more fun when other players actually try beyond listening for who to vote for.  Seriously, great strategies can be formed and used when there's more than one player working and thinking.

Yeah. That's been my fear. That I've been keeping people from devoloping their game since they can just rely on myself or you or anyother good player. That's why I really tried from participating too much at the start of this mafia game. I wanted to see some other people step up and take the initiative for once.

And I agree with thatguy's sentiments. Be bold and risk things in this game. What's the worst that could happen? You lose and just have to play again next time. But by trying out new game strategies, it can really help a person in their overall game. I know that's what I did for my first few games. I was trying out new ideas and concpets I thought of. They didn't always work. But I learnt what did work and what didn't work and adjusted my strategy accordingly. And now my gameplay is excellant and I have a record to prove that. And I'm still trying new ideas and approaches.

I remember Nuclearspeed came to me with an idea one time. It was basically to let me use him to say any accusations I wanted or vote any way I wanted. His goal was to give me a chance to lay low. It didn't work out because I have this habit of getting people's attention no matter what I do but I always respected him for taking a chance on a new idea and I hope he keeps trying new things as well as other players stepping up.

Also, I have to say this, too.  Khush, in your next game, will you put a mercy rule where anyone who hasn't at least posted in one of the first couple of days gets auto-death and loss?  I think we all agree that people who don't play at all don't deserve a chance to win.

That's a given. Too many people not participating has got to me and this game shows why we have to force people to play.

Can we get a title change for thatguy? Maybe something like "Vudu's annoying kid brother".

Actually about that, I never bothered to counter your arguement since I felt it best to let it slide since no one was raising a fuss and I didn't see the need to point your message out to people. But, since I never really had the chance to get into an argument with anyone except Vudu, allow me to explain what I would have done to get out of your claims.

Vote Khush

Alright. Here is the deal...believe me or not...I don't care...but if you don't the townies are screwed.

Khush is now Mafia. See when the grave digger brings back people from the dead that had roles they become Mafia. That is why the original Mafia's were so underpowered. (2 Players each)

Well this should not have been a problem for you townies because we (the Mafia) didn't know this rule and killed the Grave Digger.

But stevey let him raise himself from the dead and Khush on the same day...which was just weird and makes no sense. So now the Mafia is Zach and Khush, but I don't know if they can create any more Mafia members or not.

Remember, I was a part of the Mafias and I knew everyone who was original Mafia.

Trust my vote. After all if Khush was on your side why wouldn't he be blocking the Mafia people again? Perhaps he told you he lost his power being raised? Here is another question...how is the Mafia all of a sudden doing perfect hits on the townies? Could it be that the Grave Digger's power allowed for the most trusted townie Khush to betray his trust and now use that to exploit you and his knowledge of who everyone is?

First off, in the day when I came back and voted out S-U-P-E-R, I posted all my info about the townie alliance and who had what roles in the voting thread. (Boy, that was sure stupid of me.) Now the last mafia member is using that info to pick us apart.

Also, the reason the mafia is making a hit is because I don't know who the last mafia member is and am trying to block various people to quickly track him down. So far, I know, (give a few names) aren't mafia so it is just a matter of time before I get the last one. I did not say I lost my power and no one has asked me if I have lost my power.

Looks like your surmising of what I am supposed to be doing is off.

Also, you know who the orginal mafia members are. So, if there is a new mafia created, how do you know who they are? You say you didn't know about the gravediggers role when you put the hit on it. Now you suddenly know everything about this role and what it is capable of? C'mon.

Frankly, everyone knows your still a bit upset with me because you think that it was my arguement with stevey that gave away your role. But as I've tried to tell you, the townies had all this information and I named you as the godfather before I died. The vote was to be UERD and then you.

Frankly, it's clear your just trying to protect your last mafia member by creating a story about me to try and kill me off. If it wasn't for Ceric's protection last night, I'd be dead. (Yes, Ceric sudddenly decided to protect me due to repeat pm requests and since he'd be dead, he wouldn't be able to counter this lie). All your doing is trying to get the townies to vote out another of their own and screw them over.

That's the gist of what I would have made up.

One final bit of unfinished business:

I wanted to reply to that so badly but I knew to hold my tongue. Yeah, I know. These are the sad things that give me kicks in this game.

VICTORY!!!!!!!!!

Now I feel bad for making another big speech against stevey. I was just really worried the game was going to keep going with everyone playing again and that he would keep delaying. Plus, I though the game was over the night I put the hit on Ceric, the Jesus who saved no one. And then everyone was voting again. Yeah, it was kind of weird to have won the game for the townies and then be brought to screw them out of their win. Oh well. At least I was able to get the win for some people like Vudu who I have taken down in the other three mafia games. I got you a win this time buddy. And Stabby and Spak who either died as townies or were mafia the previous games. I made it up to them. Of course, the person I was playing for the most was Shyguy who seemed to want me to sign-up before he would play. Shyguy was the one I trusted my info to first and when I became mafia with Zach was the person I recruited. (Stevey said the mafia had the ability to recruit one person). Since Shyguy was the one person I thought most deserving to win and didn't want him on the losing side, I brought him along for the ride. Though he didn't seem to like that. Of course, it helped the mafia by bringing the suicide bomber over. One less variable to worry about for the win.

Apologies to Nuclearspeed and Athrun Zala. I felt bad killing Nuclearspeed the other day since I saved him from that mafia trick. But looking at what player were left, it was him or TVMan as the biggest threats left to uncover the truth. I just felt he was the biggest threat coupled with the fact that I couldn't bear to kill TVMan again so I set up that last vote against him. Athrun I targetted because of different reasonings but at the time, the suspicions seemed sound. I wanted to bring you back to life but you'll have to complain to Zach about that one. He has the gall to not do everything I told him. Oh, that's alright. I'm just giving him a hard time. I guess I'll outline my strategy in a bit.

Also, should I wait a bit before the next mafia game or should I start the sign-up pretty fast like this week?

I don't think it sucks but it is just a compentant action/spy film. The Bourne Identity isn't going to blow you away or anything. It's just a good entry point into the series. Actually, when you watch the next two movies, the Bourne Identity comes across as tame. The car chase is just a standard car chase and not that exciting. The fights are ok and Clive Owen is good but it doesn't have the same mood and feel as the next two movies. I thknk that's the big key to the Bourne movies. The plot isn't going to be some huge intricate web of deciet. It's usually pretty simple to follow. But it's the atmosphere and mood the latter two movies create that make them so good. Plus, the soundtrack gets better. I listen to the Bourne Supremacy soundtrack a lot.

It's like the Spiderman movies. I don't care much for the first Spiderman movie except for a couple parts but Spiderman 2 blew me away it was so much better. You gots ta try Supremacy now and see what you think.

I feel that way too actually. When someone asks me, what's my favorite TV show or movie, I find it very hard to name just one because the experience of one movie or tv show from another can vary so much.

After thinking about it a lot one day, I decided to come up with one answer anyways. When someone asks my favorite movie, I usually reply "The Great Escape". The funny thing is how it catches so many people offguard. Why that? Or what is that movie? I explain that it has many of the things I like in a movie. It's set in a historical setting. It's long and epic. It has some action but also a lot of drama. The movie focuses a long time on how the prisioners escape. It also shows human ingenuity and rising up against great odds. It has great chracters, a fine musical score. It's a movie I can enjoy watching over and over again. There's more to it than that. There's just a quality about the film that I just love about it.

But does it mean if there are two movies on TV and one is "The Great Escape", I'm going to pick it over the other film? No. It depends on what I feel like experiencing that day.

2001: A Space Odyssey is another great movie though. To me, that is one of the best movies that exemplifies the visual medium part of movies. I hated the book but I love the movie so much. I think it's best viewed at night and slightly tired though. Your brain just seems more able to let the movie take over your conciousness then.

Hey Svevan, would you agree with my assertation that The Bourne Supremacy has the best car chase ever put on film?

15335
Thanks Mashiro. Glad I was able to help you out a bit. I do ask that all new players give this game another chance in the future since this really isn't indicitive of what mafia games are usually like. I know it can be tough to learn this game. For some people, they need a few cracks at it before it seems to finally sink in and they get the strategy and learn how to accuse and pick up on clues. Others can hit the ground running on day 1. So, I always try to make myself available to help speed along a player's comprehension of the game. It is always more fun to play with a larger group and the more people we can have join and keep playing, the more times we will have better games.

Aww crap. What happened? I lost the whole post that I just typed up. From what I can tell, Svevan somehow magically removed himself from replying while I was typing and that probably caused the error. Nuts. It's too bad because I was typing a response mentioning how good Svevan has been as a mod. Oh well. Maybe I'll re-type it later.

Yeah, I know. Why am I still bothering with this game? Well, I just want to see it ended. I can't stand loose ends. It bugs me everytime I come in to the funhouse and see these mafia threads. And frankly, I want to know this game has ended so everyone can move and forget about it. I'm tired of the delays of this game. Nobody wants to play but stevey keeps bring it back for another day a week and just won't end it.

That shouldn't be hard to do since I'm sure all future hosts will be players of this game and your hosting has made it a living hell for everyone playing. Alright. I got that out of my system. Yeah, I know I shouldn't be this harsh on the host and the truth is, I've been trying to be patient but my patience has finally worn down. Frankly, stevey, if you were playing this game, you wouldn't like it either. I thought that since you are someone who plays this game also, you would be more diligent in your hosting duties to make sure it was something the players would enjoy. When I think up of my mafia games, I always base them around the idea of a mafia game I would like to play. (And so it always hurts when I don't get to play it or see the roles I've created used again since they are roles I would like to try.) Are you telling me that the mafia game you would like to play is one where there is no strategy and it is all based on chance? Where not participating or even playing means you have the best shot of winning? A game where you don't even know all the abilities of your role or info about your role is not told to you? A game where the rules change? (Two mafias to one, roles are switched or tweaked)? A game where the host doesn't communicate with the players and dissappears for days on end?

I realize you are busy and have your reasons for not always being here. But say something. Instead, we see you post in other threads and still attend the boards and if you can do that, why can't you post a new day's vote? Honestly, it's not like you have a story or anything that you are posting. You basically just mention who died. There can't be that many night actions since practically everyone is nearly dead. And it shouldn't be that hard to figure out who died in the day. If you don't know here's a tally of the day's vote:

Mashiro - 4
Shyguy - 3
Stevey - 3
Khushrenada - 1

Mahiro is voted out.

I hope this bring back the dead for the vote is a one time thing. Looking at the Jesus role, you said,

Quote

save somebody from dieing by taking their place and be killed and/or if he is killed he can come back to life after 1 day of being dead, but jesus can only use his power twice.....

So, if he is coming back after one day of being dead, I'm assuming the dead go back to being dead. If not, I suggest you do it that way anyways since people don't seem to want to play this game again. Look at the votes. The first few people vote Shyguy to blow themselves up and get out of this game. The next three vote for you because they aren't happy with this game and the rest vote for a player who has asked repeatedly to be killed so he didn't have to play this game. In fact, he voted for himself to end it all. The only person who seems to be playing is Spak who seems to be trying to get revenge on me since he thinks I gave away his role. I'll admit, I my be a bit at fault in that regard. So, since no one really wants to keep this game going, I say let's hurry up and end it.

Here let me help you. We'll play on the weekend to speed this thing up. End today's vote. Then post the next day's voting thread. If you are so busy that you can't post your death lines, just do what I did when I was busy. Mention who died and what their role was. Fast and simple. Then when you have the time later in the day, come back and edit your post to add whatever else you need to. Again, there shouldn't be that many night actions left. So, it should be pretty easy to figure out how to resolve them. I'll even post a tally at the end of the day so you know who was voted out. Your job will be that much easier. There is about 7 people left alive so in 3 days I'm sure we'll have a winner or everyone will be dead. Unless you reveal a new twist to prolong the game. Though why you would at this point, I don't know. Since no one knows about these twists, you can probably get away without doing them and no one will complain. Now let's go.

I'm sorry if I've come across as overly harsh or condescending. I just wanted to be stern and kick you into action. It seems unless someone complains, you won't post a reply or give out any information.  So let's get to it. Your the mafia host and the end is in sight. If you hurry up and post the next few days, you can get it over with also since you don't seem to be having much fun hosting this game either.

Great! It makes it easier for me. I don't always have to copy the list. Well, if that's the case, I'll just post who needs to be updated with points. And for the Sept. 20th prediction two people were awarded points.

PartyBear has 2 more points and Rachetman joins the board with his first two points. Both guessed generally that there would be an item update and they were correct.

For Sep. 21, 2007, I am predicting:

(General) Stages
(Specific) Big Blue from F-Zero
(SuperSpecific) It will again feature climbing on F-Zero vehicles.

However, I think we might be seeing a double update tommorrow also. Last chance this week. So my second prediction is:

(General) Character Profile
(Specific) Captain Falcon
(SuperSpecific) Bounty Hunter racer who punches fast and hard.

Oh UERD, why do you have to make life difficult? Gameplay Mechanics isn't really a header I go by though it could be construed towards Game modes. Plus, you did then specifiy it would be on the single player mode and these enemies did discuss some of their mechanics. So, I'm going to be generous and split the difference and give you 3 points. So, here is the board now.

Mashiro - 14
UERD - 11
Khushrenada - 6
Louieturkey - 6
Stevey - 6
Anubis6789 - 4
Golden Phoenix - 4
Sessha - 4
Spak-Spang - 4
TVMan - 4
Bill Aurion - 2
Luigi Dude - 2
PartyBear - 2
Smash_Brother - 2

Mashiro is starting to get some competition.

Prediction for Sep. 20, 2007
(General) Stages
(Specific) Big Blue from F-Zero
(SuperSpecific) It will again feature climbing on F-Zero vehicles.

Annnnnd, no one predicted this days update. Not surprising since I think it was something everyone though Nintendo would announce at a special time. However, there is an update to the leaderboard today. I failed to notice that Golden Phoenix correctly predicted a new item update. Golden Hammer it was. So, here is the adjusted leaderboard:

Mashiro - 14
UERD - 8
Khushrenada - 6
Louieturkey - 6
Stevey - 6
Anubis6789 - 4
Golden Phoenix - 4
Sessha - 4
Spak-Spang - 4
TVMan - 4
Bill Aurion - 2
Luigi Dude - 2
PartyBear - 2
Smash_Brother - 2

And now my quick prediction for Sep. 19, 2007.

Will Sakurai give further info on online? Or will he switch gears completely? And how will he follow up this announcement? I say:

(General) Character Profile
(Specific) Captain Falcon
(SuperSpecific) Bounty Hunter racer who punches fast and hard.

2nd Update

(General) Stages
(Specific) Smash Bros Original Creation
(SuperSpecific) Flat stage similar to Final Destination.
