yes, but luckly on the 360 they changed it to computer talk
Also, When Nintendo brags that it has 512 megs of flash memory, then goes and tells you it's "blocks", they lay person might think they have the whole 512 megs available for saving.  But even the "20 gig" hard drive on a Xbox 360 only has at the most about 13 gigs of space available for saving.

I took the time to do the math incase nobody knew or figured it out.  Oh, and incase your wondering.  I based these numbers on the fact that a 1 gig memory stick and how many blocks it tells me is available on my Wii.  So, I did double check to make sure calculations were correct

7619 blocks total on 1 gig stick of 952 megs total free space

Wii
2171 total available on Wii Flash
about 8 blocks = 1 meg
about 1 block  = 128 k

about 271 megs of memory available for storage
about 53% of Wii memory available to user for storage out of 512 megs

GameCube
about 128 blocks = 1 meg
about   1 block  = 8 Kbytes

* A Wii memory block holds 16 times that of a GameCube memory block

So, it infact turns out very simple to find out how much memory something takes up on your Wii
example, 4 blocks divided by 8 equals 1 half megabyte...and 16 blocks equals 2 megabytes
ONLY KEEP IN MIND THESE ARE ESTIMATES, the actual size of the file may be a few byes more or less
example, a 4 block file may only take up 0.49 megs, or 0.51 The way the file system works though the file system will see it as taking up the whole block of memory

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Mario Party 8
« on: January 23, 2007, 03:13:56 PM »
Ohh come on.  You and I both know that Mario Party 8 NEEDS to be online

Just like when we look at Smash bros. and say, "This would be great online".  The same is true for Mario Party 8.  When you look at reason's games are delayed, it's not to add some more mini games or something small.  We all know in order to blow the competition out of the water,
Wi-Fi on Wii must come out throwing some punches, and to do that you need the most Grade "A" games on day one that has online.  It would stir up support for the system and encourage 3rd party online games.

With a popular game like Mario Party, there is no reason why you would want to make the mistake of not making it an online game

A delayed Mario Party can only mean one thing......just like metroid prime hunters was delayed for Wi-Fi.   I think Mario Party is delayed for online play.

Which I think is awesome.  Smash Bros, and Mario Party, Metroid 3.  These games need to be online

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Extension wrist strap clips and classic controllers

i'm sorry, but that's the stupidest reason i've heard for the clips

not sure if you mean the clip on the Classic controller or the nunchuck attachment....eather way, that answer doesn't make any sense

I now want a way to clip my Classic controller to my Wiimote so the Wiimote doesn't just lay on your lap.  After all, lets put the clip on the back of the Classic controller to work

i got to say, I agree that the VC original content is like online gamecube.  It's never going to happen.  Could a future firmware update allow Classic controller play on GameCube?

the only downside I could see playing Gamecube with Classic controller is no rumble, however, the Wiimote could rumble....the question is where to stick it.

But back to this extension cable clip thing....what is the reason for it

I have a question that I haven't really gotten an answer to yet, and that is what is the need for those little clear wrist strap clip things that are on the end of the nunchuck and classic controller that in games that use the nunchuck, always tell you how to wrap the wrist strap around the clip properly.

As I see it, I don't see any added benifet of it at all.  Even if you droped one or the other, or even both if your wearing the wrist strap.  Could someone please clue me in here

While were at it, someone tell me why a Classic controller has the analog triggers with the extra "click" at the bottom just like GameCube controllers.  Why make an evolutionized GameCube controller that can't be used to play GameCube?

i'm just saying...a normal work week for somebody at nintendo if they only have one programmer working on VC games....40 hours.  In 40 hours they only port over 1 VC game.  But like I said, If it had to be only one game, it's a good thing it's an "A" list game

well, if it had to only be one, I guess Zelda, A Link to the Past was a good choice

Kinda like a Playstation 3 huh

I can understand that, but in defense, it was thought that there would be 1 million Wii systems on launch day.

I didn't pre-order and I was still able to get one, of course it took a 12 hour wait outside in the cold but hey, I gots me one. ( quote from Steven Colbert)

but for retail games you can get a lot more video, pics, previews and information on games.  As well as you can probley rent it somewhere first to try it out if your not sure.  Thats why I said it's fine if you played the game back in the day and remember what it was like.  Not so great if you never played it.  I can can assure you with all the VC games on there currently that i've never played before.  Chances are high that I wouldn't be pleased with many of them.  So when I think about it, I feel if i bought more games on VC I would be more disappointed than retail games.  The fact that I can't demo these games first, and can't sell them after I buy them is my arguement verses a retail game.

Ok, Well if i'm wrong then how are you going to buy an original game for VC when all you have to go by is 2 small pics and a small description.

If it were me I would want at least a demo to see if I like it, at least with games you buy in the store you can sell them and get some of your money back, NO DICE on VC......which I hate BTW.

Well first of all, all Xbox Live Arcade games are original to some extent since many games have the original version and a new enhanced version.  Plus, all the games are not straight ports from the original as they have to add hi-def support, 16*9, and stylish new menu's for comfortable easy navigation.

However, Wii games are not like that.  VC is ment to be a flashback to the 5 retro systems and enjoying classics in their original form.

I guess my point or rather my question is, Why do you people even think there will be any original content for Virtual Console?

I can't really say it will affect sales of Wii, however, it does look bad when you see the whole system turned off and not even running the intro video of a game or anything (in fareness though, I've seen times where the PS3 demo unit was turned off, my guess was heat issues)

I use the store where I live as an example, I called and asked if they had their Wii demo unit in yet and the guy told me, "Ya, but we have to wait for Nintendo to come in and calibrate the crappy tilt sensor thingys."  Needless to say I went off on him and told him he didn't know what the f*ck he was talking about.  The truth was, as I can guess from what he said, was they got one of the "brick" systems that ask for a disk when you turn it on, just a system update is all it needed.

I guess my point is the bigger threat to Wii is Sony fanboys who would rather spread mis-information instead of actual truth to prevent someone from buying a nintendo system

He said he didn't understand though because according to him all of the PS3's they get sit on the shelf for about 2-3 days while the Wii "sells out within 10 minutes".

I know this isn't a thread about PS3 sales vs Wii sales, but can anybody confirm the new Sony factory opening?

I don't know, i find that really hard that they opened a factory here in the states, cause that would mean a greater cost of production.  With a PS3 costing as much as it does i really doubt they opened up a new factory here in the states.  Lets face facts!!!!! The reason PS3 are still on shelves, is because all the people who wanted to buy one has, and nobody else wants to buy it, period.

microsoft bragged that their original xbox was the only game console made in north america, but it wasn't made in the states, it was made in mexico.....cause it's cheaper.
