TalkBack / Re: Nintendo 3DS XL Review
« on: August 19, 2012, 02:36:33 AM »
I just got mine.  I'm really happy with it. Wanted to make a few corrections that I didn't see it the reviews and such. If what I say was mentioned, my apologies ahead of time

First, the SD card slot is on the right side with the stylis slot, opposite side than taco 3DS, and I didn't think the slot door was all that stiff as long as you pulled it out the whole way

Second, the matte finish I thought was gonna be like the DSi, which I hated, but it's not. To me it seemed more like a semigloss finish.

Third the start, home, & select buttons kinda suck ornate time to get used to. They seem like hinge buttons that register better if you press on the bottom part near the edge rather than the middle of the button

I gotta update this thing right out of the box? Wtf?

I also use the cradle all the time. I hope they sell it in stores so I don't have to order one online

Ok, so it sounds like it only transfers information on the system memory like DSi games. Then you either use your old SD card in the new system after the transfer. Or copy all the files on a computer to the new SD card

So when you do the system transfer.  Do you leave your old SD card in your old system, then, take that SD card out and put it in your new system? Or, does it transfer all your infomation from your old SD card onto the new SD card in the new system?

Why no DSi XL vs. 3DS XL picture comparison?

Will XL come with a charging dock like 3DS did?

One important note is that manufacturers arn't allowed to sell items below MSRP to customers.

Is that a Japanese thing?  Because here in America, that's called price fixing and will get you in trouble.

As Nintendo found out years ago.  I have the coupon hanging on my wall to prove it. :D

I was talking about laws here in the US. I understand that when manufacturers make a product (Nintendo). They assign an MSRP or Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price to that item so when retailers like  GameStop or Walmart sell the item, they usually sell that item at that price. As I understand it a manufacturer, in this case Nintendo, could sell that item to the public too, but they are not allowed to sell it for less than the MSRP that they have set. Since, the ability to do so would allow them to undercut retailers and put them out of business. Retailers don't have to follow this rule of course.

This reason is why I was saying I don't think we will ever see retail eShop games be any cheaper than they are in stores

One important note is that manufacturers arn't allowed to sell items below MSRP to customers.  It might have something to do with why eShop games are the same price as a physical copy at the store

I should have rephrased my question. My concern wasn't really with resolution, cause I know they can't change that, but the grid effect and seeing a noticeable space between pixels, if it's not as bad as DSi XL was then I'll be sold. The resolution difference of playing DS games in a 3DS wasn't ever anything the bothered me.

Thanks for answering my question btw

You know what might work, being able to purchase digitally a couple days before being able to buy a physical copy. I don't see the reason to pay the same amount for something with less rights. Cartridge has no DRM and re-sell value

163
Pass, I'll take my physical copy thank you very much!!!

164
That's it?  For a game you can never sell, you get 100 coins? If they gave you the original arcade Donkey Kong. I think that would actually intice some people

I wanna know what the resolution is like.  With the DSi XL compared to the DSi, you got a bigger screen but the pixels were also bigger and had a noticable gap between them creating a grid effect across the screen.  I think after awhile you got used to this or just held it further away.  This is the one major concern I have about purchasing the new 3DS XL.  If they managed to keep the pixels the same size on both 3DS systems i'll be sold, but for engineering simplicity sake, i'm betting that won't be the case

167
Why can't we have one account for our 3DS and WiiU purchases. That's dumb having X amount of points or money on your 3DS that can't be used to buy WiiU stuff

Hmm, I don't know whether to get the calendar or The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. I really like the 2012 calendar I got, but I never played Majora's Mask. Ah, decisions.

Easy, Zelda. I'll take a bad game over the calendar

My question concerns WiiWare and VC games, which can't be run from an SD card. Just like 3DS still has internal memory for DSi games. Unless the WiiU will have so much RAM that any WiiWare or VC game can just be copied to the RAM every time you play a game

along with USB thumbdrives, i'm hoping they'll support actually USB hard drives.  I have a 40 gig one i'm not using that would work.  You can get a good size one at the store for around $50 - $60
