I agree with you Ian, I love rpg's but i too find myself getting sick of them.  My favorite rpg is chrono trigger yet ive never beaten it.  I was truely hooked by the game's characters but i took a break from playing it and when i came back to playing it i completely forgot what i was supposed to do, and never learned what or where i was supposed to do.

I've done the same to other rpgs too and thats mainly because i have a backlog of many games that i havent completely finished.  I try my best to fit all my games in and not let too big of a gap between each game.  I think Animal Crossing hurt my streak pretty badly, lol.

Well i have only a short time to complete some of my games before ToS comes along!

Wish me luck!

i know its your opinion and all but wow.  How can u say totally avoid Wind Waker at all cost.   Thats harsh at least give it a rental, lol.

Personally I loved the game, even though it was extremely easy in alot of areas and their was a small amount of repition (triforce shards collecting) and after awhile u get really annoyed by Links "heeya!!!!!!!!!" screams but truely the game's story, character, and gameplay is what makes this game one of the best on GCN if not the best.

I thought they said it would have wireless lan ability, and WiFi for ppl who can connect with WiFi.

At the Press Conference i believe they stated "dual wireless connections"  Wireless lan and WiFi.

Unless i heard wrong then i dunno, im pretty sure WiFi may come in handy to some but for some poor b@stard in the middle of nowhere would'nt have a WiFi connection so Wireless Lan would be his/her route.

I hope i have this right, oh well prove me wrong, lol.

Thats one hell of a way to compete against Madden 2005!  Although it leads me to think the game won't be that great though, I mean $19.99 is very cheap, heck i am surprised when games release at $39.99 like viewitiful joe did.

first of all the DS at E3 were just demos.  you can even say tech demos.

There is a video link to a french video of mario64x4 that shows single player.  It is the 1st level with the bomb king guy.

Secondly yes DS will have alot of multiplayer games, but i don't see nintendo ditching the single player aspect, that would just be a total jump in the opposite way of how nintendo does things, although they do make some high quality multiplayer games.

lastly but not least i truely hope SquareEnix releases something good besides the already confirmed Crystal Chronicles DS (i think they confirmed it anyways) and i do hope the Zelda DS won't just be Four Swords, especially since i just bought it on GCN after passing it up on GBA.  After playing it on GCN i should kick myself for passing it up on GBA.

General Gaming / RE:GameCritics Best of E3 awards
« on: June 08, 2004, 09:43:54 PM »
For starters I'm not at all surprised they think PSP was best hardware.  It does have the most power under the hood, but its just a popularity contest REALLY.

What I am surpised about though is that Resident Evil didn't win a single award, I thought RE4 was one of the best shown at E3 IMO.  Also i was surprised Gran Turismo 4 didn't win best racing game, but then again i don't like that game anyway.

yay!  I was planning on joining a terrorist organization but this sounds better!, lol.

Yeah seriously if i see somebody with a PSP saying how awesome it is, I swear am gonna just smack the back of his/her head.  Then ask them "How is it awesome if the battery dies every 3hrs?".

This really is truly retarded though, I mean cell phones last longer than that and you always hear ppl getting pissed off about there batteries dieing.

I just have to say about freaking time!

I hope Iwata goes on a "You're fired" spree, maybe reggie should go there part time, or better yet lets clone him and ship him to Austrailia!!!!!!!!!

I got to play this one at E3.  (I was really surprised seeing this one)

It is like:

1.  Starfox 2 (when on foot, because u can do the exact same dodging roll which in AWUF is a big advantage when outnumbered)

2.  Battlefield 1942, but in third person view.

3.  Warcraft, C&C, Starcraft, etc, due to the ability to select units and put them into vehicles for drop off purposes.

It is kinda weird at first but it seems it could work well.

I do like how units can sorta level up like in C&C: Red Alert 2.  There is also a bunch of different units, at the E3 demo there were a few different tanks, flamethrowers, infantry, Transport helicopters, helicoters.

During the demo i felt the game really had alot in common to AW.

I really hope this game adds more strategy into it though.

Thats funny I don't remember a officially liscensed Nintendo mp3 player.  either way though its nice but im not buying it, just like i didnt buy the GBA tv tuner.  If these such items don't interest me much then why does PSP focus on these concepts so much?

Well i think sony and micro$oft have made a backbone to get online games, xboxlive and SOE(Sony Online Entertainment).

Nintendo does not have a online backbone, the only online games we have are the Phantasy Star Online games, which Sega operates on its own.

Developers are not willing to waste money to make and operate thier own online mode on GCN, seeing how Sony and Micro$oft does the job pretty much for them.

P.S.  What was that other game Nintendo was getting that was online, it looked like animal crossing but it wasn't, and i do believe they said it was a rpg, what happend to that?

I'm really excited about the DS too, but even i have some gripes too.

1.  It needs to be redesigned, I like the design but compared to the PSP the DS really does look like clunky and a bit ugly.  that being said though i would still buy it because i know it has inner beauty, lol.

2.  The L + R buttons look very strange and they felt strange too, lets get some GCN like L + R triggers!

So far those are my only real gripes, and they really are minor gripes, now on PSP.........well do u have about 30min to spare?

.....................awwww #%@# it we both know u don't wanna waste 30min and i know i don't wanna type for the next 30min, lol.

1.  Aiming is kinda loose and strange the first couple minutes but after that aiming gets easy.

2.  I'm not sure about the new video but try www.gametrailers.com.  they have tons of videos.

I was just stating what the sony rep told me, plus ive heard the same at some other sites.

On the other hand now that u mention it, that doesn't seem right at all.  Even if u can listen to Mp3's for 10hrs that is kinda short for a Mp3 player and if that is short for an Mp3 player then the gameplay surely will suck alot more battery.

It really doesn't make any sense at all, I'm gonna laugh if the PSP only last 4-6hrs for gameplay, if the DS had anything near that i wouldn't buy it at all either.  I wouldn't care how bad ass the system was if i could only use it for 4-6hrs!  Even if the beautiful graphics could give me an mental orgasm of joy i wouldn't buy it if the batteries lasted 4-6hrs!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well thats funny.

When i went to the PSP area at E3, when i asked the sony rep about the battery he told me 10hrs gameplay, 8hours music, 2 hours movies and i told him that seems awfully low.  He then replied "youd think so but u can recharge the battery, and u can charge and play at the same time."  To me it seemed that was his only rebutal, and it seemed he thought it was a postive one that would magically make me think wow PSP is GREAT!

think about it if it costs $200(DS)-$400(PSP) for a 3-d portable in the near present time, then think what it would cost when the original Gameboy Advance came out.

1.  It would be too costy.
2.  Production time would be long.
3.  Less profit for Developers, due to console game competition, and Production time.
4.  Risky business model.

If GBA was 64 like when it released we could probably paid $300-$500, sure Nintendo could have lowered the sale price and take a big hit like Microsoft and its Xbox but then again why would they need to do that and plus that is plain out a dumb business decision.

Just look what happend to Game Gear, Ngage, etc.  They were all a bit before there time as goes to the PSP, its just not Sony's right time to get in the portable market.  What Sony should have done was to wait for LCD/TFT screens to go down in price, Bigger Battery, and get a head start or match release dates with Nintendo in all regions.

1195
I agree areefer.  GBA fans will most likely jump to DS without a second thought.

And to Blackknight131, yes the DS is more impressive once seen, touched, and played.  Nintendo said it best when they gave away Those DS shirts to all DS attendees, the shirts read "See it, Touch it, Play it"

IMO, if PSP initial sales go well but the system turns out a dud, then Sony might lose some market share NextGen.  Otherwise i feel Nintendo and Microsoft will still likely have a long ways to go to really even compete.

I predict though that with so many ppl now buying GCN for the $99 sale, alot of ppl have now seen what Nintendo is all about and NextGen we will see a vast improvement for Nintendo although probably not numero uno, more like Nintendo 40% share, Sony 50% share, and Microsoft 10% share IMO.  Thats if DS goes well and PSP doesn't.  And i base Microsoft at 10% only because i feel that if all systems released about the same start or at least without much advantage Microsoft would have trouble selling at all.

I mean think about all the great games coming to GCN late in the cycle.  New (mature) Zelda, Metroid, RE4, Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, Fire Emblem, Paper Mario 2, Geist, Killer7, etc.

As much as i like how the nominations went i feel the actual awards will be #@%@#$ up.

Why u ask, because it says the voters are:

TV Guide * TIME * Newsweek * Entertainment Weekly * Rolling Stone * Business 2.0 * USA Today * Los Angeles Times * The Washington Post *   Gannett News Service * San Jose Mercury News * Seattle Post * Computer Gaming World * Electronic Gaming Monthly * Game Informer * Gamepro *  GameSpot * GameSpy * GMR * Happy Puppy *
Hollywood Reporter * IGN * Official PlayStation Magazine *
Official Xbox Magazine * PC Gamer * PSM * UGO.com * XBN * Yahoo! Games Domain * Bell Canada GamesMania * Game-Revolution * CNN/Money * Electric Playground * G4TV * TechTV *

Why Tv Guide, Time, Newsweek, Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, USA Today, etc?

Oh and why does XBOX and PS2 official mags get a vote and Nintendo Power doesn't?

These awards are BS!

IMO i don't think that was that harsh of a punishment.  Hopefully there was a hefty fine.

1198
That makes alot of sense Bloodworth, i totally agree.

I wonder though, Nintendo can't always own the market, I wonder when, who , and how Nintendo will lose some real market share.

I seriously think PSP will gain some marketshare like maybe 10-20%, but in around a year or two later after the PSP launch Sony will be like the XBOX in Japan (XboX is actually competing with PSone and WonderSwan Crystal).

I wanted to say that exact same things as u joeamis.

I'd just like to add that the industry's consumers would most likely buy a portable over a console if he or she knew that the portable was just as good as the console.  So in order to have 2 seperate product lines there must be a reason to own both.

So in other words if the portable and the console were almost identical a consumer would likely not purchase both knowing that he or she is getting the same product only its a portable.  There simply needs to be a reason to own both or else it is a bad company decision.

In the case of The GBA consumers knew that the portable was like a SNES except portable, fast pick up and play, CHEAPER, and would have lots of old school classics.  All of which was not provided on a console.

So i guess in a way I think GBA users are more hardcore gamers then any other console owner, IMO.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:The Legend of Zelda 2005 Preorder Ideas

I agree with Ian, maybe they should have a free demo disc that u get for preordering with videos of Zelda, Baten Kaitos, Metroid Prime2, Resident Evil 4, Geist, etc.

They should have that for anyone who preorders Tales of Symphonia, TOS would certainly get a boost in sales!
