Nintendo Gaming / RE:Tales of Symphonia: Scores.
« on: July 12, 2004, 05:24:37 PM »
Yeah random battles can be ok sometimes but some rpgs random battle coding is set awfully bad.

If u played the original Tales of Phantasia game, i think u would know what i mean, u usually had a fight every 5 steps, and that includes the overworld, very annoying when u have very little health.

Now if only Nintendo would bring this to other countries, and expand the line a bit, hell they should include 3rd party games.  I know that wouldn't happen but Nintendo needs to help out its 3rd partys.

yeah soccor has to be one of the funnest sports, gaming wise.  Anybody remember International Superstar Soccor on N64?  That was a fun game!  By the way i hate EA soccor games, they are terrible, the gameplay is halfa$$ed and everything else $ucks.

News like this just makes me more pist off that we don't have a MMORPG Pokemon game, I also still wish for a Animal Crossing MMO game.

Untill that happens I'm continuing my boycott on Pokemon (established after Gold & Silver versions)

I dunno i thought the E3 demo was pretty good.  A rep was telling me all about how to strengthen your offense, use defense, and tactics with the card system.  That being said I think the game could have added more depth, to me it seemed kinda simplistic.

I thought it was strange at first but the demo proves it can stand on its own.  IMO it wasn't spectacular and was drowned out by a lot of other games i played but it was a postively good game i played at E3.

@$!@$%@!@$^%!@#, You think Someone would promote this more, I mean the game has already gained much critics acclaim and much attention with rpg fans.  All Namco or Nintendo had to do was at least attempt to inform the less knowing mainstream audience, and this game could really have a chance of selling big time.

I really hope the tales series doesn't get ignored here in the states.  I've played the first game in the series and I loved it and apparently namco ported it to GBA in Japan so if it ToS does well here we might get the original.

Yeah that's nice and all im just saying how the hell do they justify DOA Volleyball score.  My friend has it and he hates playing it, but well u know why he plays it, lol.

I guess if the only thing i could give them a good rating for is the fact that the graphics are very well done and there are a lot of unlockables and stuff, but the gameplay and mechanics and the fact the only real reason to play the game is to unlock skimpy clothing is a cheap aspect of the game.

Seriously as a gamer does anyone here believe DOA volleyball should get a near perfect score?

well they help out in combos, but before that came about most fighters didnt use them well and IMO everyone used strong attacks only.

That was a pathetic response to instill confidence into the quality of the PSP.  A better question would have been to ask how many PS2 consoles the person had to have replaced.

On a another note, has anyone read the new EGM that is out?  I was at Borders Bookstore a few days ago and I saw a big "PSP Vs. DS - We tell you which one is best!" or something like that on the cover.  I couldn't look in it because it was still in wrapped up.  I'm interested in knowing what the outcome is, though I'm pretty sure that it'll be like there "Xbox vs. GC" one.

And if u ask the same question except about a PS1 and PS2 they would say "yes they work, but i have to put it upside down, vertical or surgically fix it, lol"

Truly this generation has the worst controllers ever.

I think out of this generation I will have to say GBA is the best, lol.

Seriously Sony is the most uncomfortable especially because of the D-pad yet i still prefer it over its joystick.

The Xbox's white and black buttons are single handedly the worst positioned buttons ever in mankind.  But at least xbox controller is ergonomic (controller s, and 3rd party controllers ONLY!!!!!!!!)

Try playing Capcom vs SNK 2, you have to use A,B,X,Y and then choose between using L & R triggers for strong attacks or using the white and black buttons, that ruined the game for me.

GCN on the other hand has the most comfortable controller ever, but the c-stick is an embaressment, and the z button is laughable.  I like the face buttons its simple and logical but it is god awful for fighters.

Here's hoping next gen we get some really rad controllers, and every system should have at least 4 ports and be wireless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And to stay on topic I hate Sony, worst quality ever, PS1 only works in upside down state?  PS2 disc error, Vertical side only, blue disc, etc.  Personally I've had disc errors and then the final straw was when my PS2 scorched my Simpsons season 1 disc (the bonus disc).  Weirdest thing ever, it left bubble marks inside the disc.  It currently doesn't play anymore,  thats when i used my extended warranty and got a xbox instead.

You think that since almost all of the ppl u know own Sony systems have had issues with it they would learn not to buy into their systems unless they took care of the issue.  I seriously hope ppl will learn something about sony next gen.

I haven't played FFX2, is it really as bad as u say?  What makes it bad?  And why do u think it's a softcore pron game?

That fact that u said it though is hilarious!

Don't forget IGN gave Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball a 9.2 and yet they gave BG&E a 9.0 wtf?

So according to their review scores, they think DOA is better than BG&E, and DOA is only 0.4 points from being the equal of Wind Waker which got a 9.6.

I don't even want to compare DOA score to ToS score, lol, their xbox channel is so $@%!# up!

Their ratings jump up and down and are just way off.  Absolutely horrible review crew.

I got my hands on this at E3, the battles are like your traditional rpg's like Final Fantasy, but there are some Specials that u use like tech points or like mana and those specials operate like Gladius' combo meters and timing meters, except they take it a small notch up.  I personally loved Gladius so I thought the demo at E3 was very good, the attacks looked pretty nifty!

yeah killer7 is very odd indeed, even seeing all the footage it's still very strange.

Back on topic, I agree the Holiday season is stuffed with big name games.  Metroid Prime 2, Fire Emblem (possibly), StarFox2 (hopefully its polished by then), Paper Mario 2, Mega Man X: Command Mission, Geist, and Baten Kaitos all of which are coming out in the October to December area.

Again I would say WW is better.

But at the same time if u want to save some $$$$ Viewitiful Joe can be found at bargain prices now ($29.99 new, $24.99 used).  And also nobody in there right mind should pass up on Soul Calibur 2 which of course now is only $19.99 NEW!

Wind Waker is a great game but it is a bit on the very easy category, however there are some nice puzzles and stuff.  The gameplay and story alone makes this a game worth buying.  By far my favorite video game story, its so damn good i think im gonna cry..........

Mario Sunshine on the other hand is a bit more of a 50/50 situation.  In all regards it is not a terrible game though it is not a great one either.  The story sucks.  Gameplay is good, but it is a bit repetitive.  A bunch of ppl will argue it's no Mario64, but IMO that's only because Mario Sunshine didn't go 4-d.  Seriously Mario Sunshine is a improvement and decent sequel in the mario series it just didn't set a new standard in platform gaming that Mario 64 did.

In the end Wind Waker is an overall better game, and safer bet, however Mario Sunshine is a player's choice game so u can find it as $29.99 new or $24.99 used in most places.

If u have the money though I would suggest buying both of em.

GOD I SO WANT FIRE PRO WRESTLING GCN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best series hands down!  THQ has really F@cked things up with WWE games IMO.

Although i liked Wrestlemania xix, the actual game isnt worth anything unless u plan on playing exhibition matches to hell.

General Gaming / Tales Of Phantasia Question
« on: July 03, 2004, 01:16:24 AM »
First off, im gonna be straight about this the question is about a rom so i dunno if this is even allowed so if it is then a thousand pardons.

Ok so ive been eagerly waiting Tales of Symphonia for GCN i recently got a Tales of Phantasia Rom (I know thats bad but hey it's a japanese game, how else am i gonna get it).  Although i have heard about it being released on the GBA in japan, and no American date in sight.

So the rom i have is translated into English (though not done very well, it is very playable).  There seem to be parts that the translator didn't know how to translate so he or she added their own words.  I'm not sure but i think that's what happened.

I say this because there seems to be a few profanitys and a particular scene that Klarth asks You whether u would sleep with Mint or Arche, and the other scene where Arch persuades the captain of the ship to sail to Alesteria (i think that's what its called) and well that scene seems kinda like u r pimping Arche out to the captain.

Now for anyone who has played this game know if the actual game is like this or not.  Either way though i really enjoyed this game.

Again very sorry if this is not allowed.

True.

I still believe there's more to do but i seriously don't know how much you can get from the hardware side.  IMO it's the developers who should be the innovaters, but thanks to all the gta, MGS, half-life, and sports games i think the game industry is just turned into to much of a business like the movie industry.

As a experienced old school gamer i hope things turn around and IMO Nintendo is the one to turn it around.  The way i see it is they did it before and they will do it again.
