Nintendo Gaming / Re: Miyamoto reafirms Wii Music is still coming along

I really wish there was some way we could bend time to get the game designers that worked at Nintendo in the 1990's to come back.

Am I the only one that regards the Guitar Hero character models as "Nightmarish"? Maybe it's because I didn't play the series during the PS2 iterations, but all the 360 versions have characters that look like rubber zombies and that is what keeps me from getting into that franchise.

I've read Elite Beat Agents fanfiction sci-fi short stories on the DS using Moonshell, and it's fine in small doses. Oddly enough, though, I'd much rather hold the system DS-style than Book-style for this sort of application. I wonder if this pack has both options.

The main character also reminds me of the kid from Adventure Time for some reason

I'm assuming this company owns the rights to all first party Intellivision games.  So why don't they get on the VC?  They could then sell all these games individually and possibly make more money.  The compilation method is better for us but if you want the compilation it's been out for years so that option is available to you.  From a business perspective I think it's a golden opportunity.

No Intellivision game is worth buying individually.

My Top Ten list on DS is just "Elite Beat Agents" ten times over.

There's just one problem:  Reggie said this was a core game.  Well core gamers will likely already own the Cube or DS versions.

I feel like, in the grand scale, a lot of "core gamers" skipped the Gamecube.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: New Logo... Thoughts?
« on: November 28, 2008, 07:46:47 PM »
Mm. I've never associated the logo with a color, just the shape. When I saw all the "new logo" news, I was worried they dropped the oval and went with a boring Wii-style logo. I wouldn't even consider a color swap to be a "change."

I got one of the stars, but after spending a reasonable amount of time trying to get the second one, I just watched the whole walkthrough, and WOW that would be a pain to actually do. Still, it's pretty old-school in that sense, hearkening back to when video games didn't hold your hand through all the puzzles and stuff. Still, that's some crazy stuff.

Anyway, I assume people here are mildly familiar with Elite Beat Agents or Ouendan, so I needn't spend much time explaing why this video is cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YZMU7GWB_s&fmt=6

And if they ever made a Mortal Kombat with digitalized sprites again I'll bet the novelty factor alone would get people interested.

I'd play it. Double the resolution of the sprites (without making them HD or anything) and maybe get some recognizable B-list actors involved, and you could have a really entertaining presentation.

It was a fun mode. Shame they couldn't just implement all the levels from the main game.

I'd say it's a pretty good likeness

Maybe it's just a way to make sure only Wii Speak owners can download the channel -- otherwise, there might be a lot of confused people who try to download it even if they didn't buy the microphone.  That would be even worse if they had to pay for it.  Nintendo has never before offered a free download to a select group of Wii owners.

That's actually a good theory. Modern Nintendo, as far as I can tell, is much more prone to well-intentioned obnoxiousness rather than mean-spirited obnoxiousness.

Now how about something useful like SDHC support?  Homebrew does it, but not Nintendo.

Oh, so it's not a hardware issue? That's a good sign, I guess. SD cards keep getting cheaper, so I could buy a huge one if I thought I'd have a use for it.

« on: November 20, 2008, 08:19:11 PM »
Yeah these Sam & Max games picked up in the later episodes of the first season, but really came into stride in the second season. I like them, but they aren't for everyone. As far as frustrating puzzles go, I find it helps to think like a crazy person. None of the puzzles in the first few episodes struck me as especially difficult, but I'm used to point-and-click games now. Shame the Wii version is buggy, though.

Maybe I need a faster SD card. I didn't do a "before" test, but moving SBCG4AP episode 1 to the SD card took a while, albeit a shorter while than it probably would have.

You could still get the free midi-to-usb cable remember?

I'm just glad they didn't attempt to "emulate" the bongos using the motion controls. That would be a disaster.

Then there's the whole thing with the stars.  I don't know how people discovered this.  I have a list of the levels they appear on, and I've made it to one, but wasn't able to actually get it.  The unfortunate thing is that if you've already completed the puzzle for World 3, you have to start your game over to get one of the stars.  So I'm contemplating if I should start over before trying to get any stars.

Care to share that list? All I can find on google are links to the videos, and I'd hate to spoil them any more than I have to. A little nudge toward where they are would be useful, since I went through the whole game without a clue they existed.

He does, doesn't he. I remember noticing that when playing the game, he's like a little combination of MI1 Guybrush and MI2 Guybrush.

The karaoke revolution games that have two-player modes always have a small handful of songs labeled as "true duets," which for some songs was a simple male-lead and female-lead division, but for some more interesting songs, had you singing lead and backup parts, like in "Uptown Girl," "Dust in the Wind," and "Twist and Shout." But yeah, each player was scored based on their pitch, there was no kind of bonus for how your voice related to the other person's voice, I guess.

I do agree that this would be a good game to implement a second microphone, and/or a third guitar.

One other thing, that "45 songs" number was dismissed by Harmonix as speculation.

From http://www.cubeecraft.com/

As for the story, I thought it was fine as it was presented. Gave me something to think about, not so much to search for answers or the "true meaning" of the story, but just some interesting concepts to chew on.

Jackson no longer owns any stake in the Beatles music. He sold the rights back while he was going bankrupt I believe.

I don't think this was really intended as episodic, just... serial.
