I think maybe they made the main character a little blacker to compensate for the fact that all the enemies are ludicrous racial stereotypes...

For the record, I think a remake of Donkey Konga using the Wii remote and nunchuck would play great. The problem is that using bongo controls to control a different genre is only meaningful if you have an actual bongo controller. Without that, you'll just be controlling a platformer in the least intuitive way possible.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Samba De Amigo for the Wii?

A friend of mine bought this, and he also bought the silly, 3rd-party maraca shells for the Wii remote and nunchuk (the "samba samba" ones). Inexplicably, the game controls much, much better with the maraca shells on. Maybe it's just the extra weight and length making them feel more like maracas, and forcing the player to point the controllers properly, but the fact is... the game is a lot of fun with those shells on. Playing with two Wii remotes but without the shells, I found the controls to be less responsive, oddly.

Yeah, I'd really like to see Luigi's Mansion and Mario Sunshine released with Wii cursor controls. Shame not to see them on this list.

Also, I'm a bit hesitant to be excited about Jungle Beat. Using bongos as a control method is interesting. Using the Wii remote to simulate bongos is interesting. But using the Wii remote to simulate using bongos as a control method is a step too far, and just ends up being stupid.

This game is really great, even surpassing my favorite Wario Game, Wario Land for VB.

I really wish that game would be ported to something playable.

So the solution to the "clean out your fridge" paradigm is to "use a bar fridge as well"?

Good thing I don't care about this VC/Wiiware stuff right now, otherwise I'd be pissed.

A 2GB SD card is significantly larger than the Wii's usable onboard memory, so I'd say that, if anything, you're starting out with a bar fridge, and adding the SD card is like adding on a full-size fridge.

People always ask for multiplayer in Punch-Out and I don't see how that would work.  Punch-Out isn't really a boxing game.  It's a really a boss rush.  Every boss has a pattern and you have to dodge when needed and attack when there's an opening.  Is it really that different than a typical shmup boss?

So how do you do that with two players?  I can think of ways to have two player boxing but not resembling Punch-Out style gameplay.

I actually think it'd be interesting in that respect, something like a fighting game, where each character has basic moves and special moves, but the special moves have more predictable patterns and weaknesses, so you have to strategize accordingly.

Hahaha, CING heard you alright...WRONG SYSTEM, THOUGH! :tpg:

I think you mean "finally the right system!"

Looks like Wii is finally heading toward the revival of the Point and Click it was fated to be

... I LIKED the first Nancy Drew DS game... It's more of an Adventure Lite, so I guess if you want Cing style stuff it won't satisfy but still...

I'd say Trace Memory was also "Adventure Lite," but it could be because I played it right after playing through the entire Myst series.

It's the High School Musical game for DS. The first one. Total Ouendan knockoff, and pretty crappy to boot. Still, it mimicks the formula just well enough to be playable, if not fun.

I actually kind of wish they would have scrapped the original Dreamcast design, and instead of saying "how can we recreate the original controls on Wii," they should have said "how can we make a kickass maraca game on Wii" They could have pitched it as a Samba de Amigo sequel instead of a pseudo-remake, and it probably would have been a better game for it. The Wii remote can't do exactly what the Dreamcast Maracas did, but the Wii remote can do a lot of things that those maracas couldn't do, so it's a shame they didn't take advantage of that.

Plus, I doubt they'll delete custom songs off your own console, so presumably you can still make those for your own fun.

(and then distribute them online via pc using the SD card, like with brawl stages? we'll see)

I wouldn't be surprised if it comes out on VC eventually. If there's one thing Nintendo likes more than selling you a game you already own, it's selling you a game you already own AGAIN. They are likely to wait a while for the DS version to sell first.

I probably would have docked a few whole points off the Graphics score, simply because the in-game characters are all horrific and frightening abominations. This particular combination of photorealism and cartoon proportions is really unpleasant, particularly for people who are this scary-looking to begin with.

Wow, is that a first? Usually there's a token positive, such as "comes in a sturdy plastic case" or something.

I agree with DAaaMan64. There's a lot of missed opportunity when companies just plop incongruous Mii heads into games. I have a feeling, though, that it's Nintendo dictating that the Miis have to look like Miis.

I was going to make a thread about this. This is the first game in quite a while that had me genuinely thinking about it after I stopped playing.

Hey, if big corporations can ship incomplete games, so can this guy.

That said, it's a shame the gameplay is bad. Gonna take more than a few tweaks to fix that.

i don't know why i defended the idea of the game at first. I was lured into rhythm games by Donkey Konga and that is the only games I actually enjoy. I enjoy the tactical feel of it something that pushing buttons on guitar hero fails to excite me. I hate singing.

Looks like i'm in the small minority who "DOESN"T GET IT and NEVER WILL".

You might like Taiko Drum Master, either import the DS version or eBay the old PS2 version. It's made by the same team as Donkey Konga, and it shows.

What's wrong with toys? Toys are cool.

I'll be interested in how Wii Music turns out when it's released, but right now it does sound pretty disappointing.
