I started visiting this site when it was Planet Gamecube and I enjoyed reading the content by fans for fans. Happy tenth anniversary and here's to the twentieth!

I interpret their pushing as taking the direction RE4 set and going in excess of it. El gigante? Now we have SUPER GIGANTE! Lake monster? How about a sea monster! Vehicle sequence? Now its faster and there are more guns and explosions!

You're right, it is a different philosophy. Its the philosophy of excess, not innovation which is what you're thinking.

TalkBack / Re: Wii Exclusive Dead Space Extraction Goes On Rails
« on: February 19, 2009, 05:03:04 AM »
Heh, maybe there'll be a tier list and arguments about how certain games are lesser or higher.

I was wondering why the graphics in the teaser looked as good as they did. The short glimpses were too ugly to be prerendered yet a shade too pretty to what I thought a Wii game would look light. Eager to see more screens and footage.

As for the game being on-rails, I am a bit disappointed as the style is certainly simpler than in the first game. However, considering that some of the knocks on Dead Space were repetition and padding, maybe the on-rails gameplay would be a good fit for the Dead Space series.

Seeing how CryTek is moving in on console game development (citing PC piracy as the primary motivator), acquiring Free Radical is a good move for them. Other than CrySis Console, I also hope the TimeSplitters 4 is on the way.

General Gaming / Re: Burnout Paradise
« on: February 08, 2009, 01:31:24 AM »
The Ultimate Box is finally out on PC and it is a beaut of a port. Sadly, there isn't an option for custom soundtracks on the PC. Oh well, you can probably just run foobar, WinAmp, or iTunes in the background and achieve a similar effect.

>And would it have killed them to have made the different sections of town look different?

It probably might have. The system at least. The texture budget or whatever was probably only so big.
As for racing, it is definitely a weak point of the game (oh dear, racing sucks in a racing game). Even with only eight possible finish lines, it's a bit of chore to plan a route and navigate when you're chaining burnouts.

Along with Crash Mode, Aftertouch and CrashBreaker are gone as well. A shame as I would've loved to use both during a Road Rage. The addition of an E-Brake is a nice touch; really helps when facing a right-angle turn.

All in all, Paradise is a great installment. It may be more of a step to the side than a step forward, but I welcome it all the same. However, I wouldn't mind a more circuit-based title in the future.

TalkBack / Re: Need for Speed Nitro Announced for Wii and DS

ShyGuy: Same. Ugh, can't they do the sensible thing and make the franchise biannual? Apparently, there is demand for something new each year. Meh.

It's a nice gesture that the Wii and DS get their own NFS, but how about a Burnout Wii? Now that I will be really excited for! I'm thinking of a circuit-based game rather than open-world. Paradise it nice and all, but you can have more variety with circuits. Well, unless you have an open-world that dynamically changes cities by crossing a street, tunnel, or bridge.

Given the split between how Super Paper Mario and Donkey Kong Barrel Blast panned out, I'm on the fence if Kirby's Star should be finished.

Oh what the heck, bring a Kirby platformer on the Wii!

Maybe they're just stuffing more war chests for some far off future.

That, or dumping it in to R&D that never see the light of day.

I-Ninja 2! By the makers of Kane and Lynch and the Hitman series.

I'm curious as how this game will pan out.

Yes, we want it.  Why wouldn't we want it?

Maybe if it ends up sucking?
I've played a lot of MH Freedom 2 and some fun can be had. However, the game doesn't make it easy to get in to it. To be to the point, I hope there are changes to the camera and interface that will help make the game more accessible.

Hopefully, Capcom USA will localize the game for North America, Europe, Australia, and Oceania. The franchise has at least a dedicated niche following outside of Japan (if a translation patch for Portable 2nd G is any indication) and the Wii installment would be welcomed.

However, I'm more interested in how the numbers will play out between Portable 2nd G and tri. How many with the PSP version will go to the Wii?

Such close analysis is vital!

I have been wondering what US rights issues are there with the Tatsunoko properties. From the top of my head, I figured there was little imported and localized (I only know one for sure and that's Karas).

I really hope this game will be good...

I as well. Actually, I think it has to be. At this point, I think anything less than an all-around solid, good game would be a crippling disappointment. Or maybe if this game fails critically and in market, it would just be another game that didn't sell? Maybe Red Steel 2 would pick up where The Conduit left off? :p

Anyway, I hope this does well for Sega's sake. The publisher needs a good start for this year.

TalkBack / Re: REVIEWS: Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
« on: December 23, 2008, 03:22:36 AM »
I think the Tales is at a point where the only ones that will truly get it are the fans.

The series barely gets glowing reviews, yet it has legions of fans who swear by it and enjoy it the most.

Hmm, from a brief glance it looks like Vesperia was reviewed rather favorably. Some of the reviews for it seem quite estatic for it.

While I have yet to play Symphonia 2, am in a few number that doesn't mind the drop in cel-shading? Thinking back to Symphonia 1, the look for it was kinda spotty in places. Maybe I'm just thinking of the clunky animations during the cutscenes.

Releasing a poorly received PS3 exclusive and being in these dire economic times has taken quite a toll. I hope some body helps either the company or its employees out. While Haze was a blemish, Timesplitters 2 and Future Perfect were good shooters. Also, Second Sight was fine as well, from what I can recall.

A dating sim would be neat as long as it is far away from being a visual novel.

As for you thinking that the Monster Hunter series isn't that good, first off, have you PLAYED the games? You are one to talk about quality.

If he did, he would probably complain of the awkward controls, unintuitive camera, and MMO-ish gameplay (Ah, the PC Frontier version is still in beta :[ ). MH is pretty like an MMORPG except faster and frustratingly hard (both I see as a good thing). Also, killing monsters for more materials to make your avatar increasingly bad ass can be satisfying and addictive.

It's a steamroll!

And poor Sony for having the 360 do double over the the PS3. Oh well, price tag and such. I'm surprised that Wii Music cracked the top ten. Guess I shouldn't have doubted its evergreen-ness.

Gopher bash! Upgrade to a carbon fiber spade for maximum bashing!

Next, I really hope they will do Office Mama. Drive like a woman on a mission because you have to drop off your kids at school and daycare! Juggle the reports and phone calls as you manage the company through an inclement economy. Put the right people in the right positions to do the right job. Battle through rush hour traffic to get back home. Includes Cooking Mama with new take-out and microwave oven mechanics!

« on: November 24, 2008, 09:49:36 PM »
Midway has a publishing deal with Epic for Unreal Tournament III. I think they hinted or announced and expansion for that.

It's sad to see Midway in such bad shape, but it doesn't come as much as a surprise given how their games have been doing. Hopefully, MK vs. DC will help them through enough to bounce back.
