Damn wild Felynes. It was bad enough that they could steal your stuff.

Wait, there was a lock-on in other versions?!

EDIT: Ah, read that wrong. Thanks Flames of Chaos.

TalkBack / Re: Square Enix Allows Eidos to be Independent Company
« on: May 01, 2009, 02:37:00 AM »
So the old adage holds true today: The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I wonder if Square Enix and Eidos will collaborate in any way to some effect in the future. It would be wasteful if they just kept on doing things as if they were separate.

Yes, but back then we didn't have a superior control interface to bring out the true depth of bobsled racing.

TalkBack / Re: There Won't Be Blood
« on: April 29, 2009, 11:33:50 PM »
Blood being an obvious factor doesn't stop all of those gore-less World War II games from being popped out.

I intentionally avoided that hornet's nest (this time), but yes, neutered WW2 games are an evil pox upon gaming.

In that regard, the pox is dwindling as CoD:WaW is rated M and had some blood in it. Same goes for Modern Warfare (1). It's not the blood bath one would expect it would be, but it's far away from Medal of Honor: Allied Assault's "thick clothes" excuse.

Ubi managing competency, eh? Most of their big-ticket games these past few years seem to have critical issues that prevent the game from reaching greatness (or goodness).

With Assassin's Creed 2 and Red Steel 2, I hope that the respective teams takes criticisms to heart.

TalkBack / Re: WiiWare Games Required to Hit Sales Threshold
« on: April 26, 2009, 09:55:39 PM »
I thought it was a bit harsh at first, but given how many Wiis there are out there it shouldn't be crazy difficult to reach those thresholds. Given how internet savvy-ness is increasing by the year, there ought to be enough potential customers that know about the download store and make purchases from it.

Then again, I may be wrong. Who here knows people with Wii who browse and purchase from WiiWare?

Oi, I liked my time with GTA 2. However, that game could've used some WSAD and mouse aiming. Firefights were such a chore!

How does it look like the game will play itself? Seems that the player will be doing the heavy lifting for all the combat.

Anyway, it's a surprise to hear that the wasn't even being made when it was announced. Wonder who thought that was a bright idea.

i want a zelda game that alternates between styles, actually...i just want a zelda game!

That's exactly how I want a new Mario to work.

So... a Super Paper Mario that goes back and forth with Super Mario Galaxy at the press of a button?

TalkBack / Re: Conduit A.S.E. Trailer Looks Fantastic
« on: April 09, 2009, 12:01:58 AM »
Well, it's nice to get a trailer for the A.S.E., though after watching the trailer I'm still confused as to what exactly the thing does.  In the video you see it make marks appear on the wall and in the air, and it fires energy blasts at enemies.  That trailer could have stood having a bit more exposition and less standard FPS warfare, because I know barely more about it now than I did before watching the video.

Most likely it's a glorified key card, hacking module, cloak flashlight, and whatever interface dongle it needs to be.

Kidding aside, I can't wait to see how the SSLMB system works.

*This is not a knock against rail shooters, which I think are very fun games. However, SH would not work as a rail shooter.

Heh. Konami thought otherwise since I think they made a Silent Hill arcade game. A Castlevania arcade game is in the works as well.

TalkBack / Re: The Conduit's Looking Good
« on: April 05, 2009, 05:40:14 PM »

Let me put it this way: if this game were announced for any other console instead of just being Wii-exclusive, would anyone give a damn?  That's my point.

Amusingly enough, I think that's the developer's actual sentiments. High Voltage is said to have said that if The Conduit was for the PS3, 360, or PC, then nobody would care.

I guess its a bit disappointing that the developer is enthusiastic over something that is only "barely good enough" from an genre-wide perspective. Still, at least someone is making an effort for the genre to have more representation on the Wii.

Sweet. Now my poor performance in golf and tennis will translate accurately in to the video game. Awesome!

(Seriously, I think this is awesome.)

Whoa. A bunch of (alien?) garble at the end of that trailer.
The game is looking good; lets hope it delivers.

« on: March 28, 2009, 07:11:28 PM »
Upon viewing trailers and video for this game, I was assaulted by quick time events. Every scene change, every cutscene, every everything seems to be decided by a quick time event. Ugh. God damn God of War (and to a lesser extent RE4 and Shenmue, I guess).

From what I heard, this game is made by some ex-Team Ninja (Ninja Gaiden) guys who jumped to From Software. That certainly explains the feeling of deja vu. Well, PS3 owners needn't worry since they are getting Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.

TalkBack / Re: Eidos Shareholders Approve Square Enix Takeover
« on: March 28, 2009, 06:44:26 PM »
Aren't JRPGs shortening their hours in this generation? At least some console JRPGs clock in at 40 hours or so and the new DS Valkyrie Profile runs in at 20+ hours.

Anyway, I agree this is an odd purchase. I don't see what Eidos has to offer to Square Enix other than its name and western connections. On the IP side of things, is there anything besides Tomb Raider?

3494
Retribution become Retaliation. Neat.

Also, nice to see Yakuza 3 still pulling in numbers.

« on: March 23, 2009, 02:48:36 AM »
The team could use the engine for an action/stealth game that's not Metal Gear. MGS4 was so definitively an ending to Snake's story that it would be wise to have the series rest for a little bit and think twice about the next move.

Or Kojima Productions could go the alternate universe route and have another scientist with another Metal Gear. Personally, I'd rather see a crossover with Splinter Cell in some Fish and Snake international chaos.

Now this is quite neat. I wonder if there will ever be a time when a netbook is mandatory for high school.

While this news may be disheartening for some, it should be noted that Christian Svensson of Capcom USA ruled out any possibility of the title releasing in North America.

I was disappointed at first, but then I remembered that G was just the remake, and he didn't say anything at all about Tri.

Hah, same here. Oh man, it would be lovely if Tri gets officially announced and a Phantasy Star Online installment comes to the Wii. Monster Hunter can be frustrating and unforgiving at times so it would be nice to have PSO offer something a bit easier to chew.

TalkBack / Re: REVIEWS: Castlevania Judgment
« on: March 10, 2009, 01:51:51 AM »

I know the Death Note guy designed the characters. I put that in the review!

Hmm, from how I read the review, that particular connection wasn't explicitly mentioned. "Others, like Aeon, look straight out of Death Note," could be interpreted as "looks like that style" if one didn't know the character designer worked on both properties. Bah, I don't know; I'm probably missing something. This is a trivial thing anyway.

There was an alternative to getting the fusion suit in Metroid Prime? First I heard of that. Then again, I'm pretty there was some Action Replay code out there.

I think it bears mentioning that the character designs look like from Death Note because the character designer worked on the art of Death Note.
