Pre-orders not doing so well? Well, it is still early and there was hardly any advertising anywhere to pre-order the game.

The monster hunt is still on! The true test is how it will do over the next few months, but 471k is quite the debut for a game on a system's first year.

EDIT: Yay! SalesBot.
...

Of note, MH3G pulling a 3DS title up. Winter sales have some Wii games (Kirby, PokePark 2) moving up.

It's pretty much the successor to the Bad Company 2 UAV. There's no Hellfire Missile to call down, but spotting can help mortar persons. Sometimes I spend multiple rounds controlling the MAV high in the sky to spot targets with the thermal scope or detect enemies with the motion sensors.

I was expecting the Wii U Zelda to make good use of the tablet controller. While I'm enjoying the Wii Motion+ controls of Skyward Sword, it would be a shame to not see what the tablet controller would offer for a Zelda game. I can see a scenario where you would use the new tablet and the old remote, but that seems very cumbersome.

Battlefield might benefit from something like the recon plane, or better yet the Blackbird killstreak from COD. With something like that people won't be able to hide and therefore camping is less lucrative.

The Recon class in Battlefield 3 has a mid-tier unlock called the MAV (Micro Aerial Vehicle) that you can use to fly high and spot enemies. It's up to your teammates to pay attention to the mini-map and on-screen indicators to take out the dug-in people.

You can also use it to ram and kill people.

Given how Rayman: Origins only sold 50,000 and the rumor that BG&E2 won't happen if Origins doesn't sell well, I guess we shouldn't be expecting Beyond Good & Evil 2 any time soon or ever.

Thanks for the impressions.

It's a shame that it doesn't provide much of a better grip for the 3DS.

For me, it's the little things. Nearly all third-person action games with melee combat feature some sort of button to lock on a target. Context-sensitive buttons (not sure if OoT was the first game to use it or made it better known). Auto-jumping that frees up buttons for other actions in games like Batman: Arkham Asylum and Assassin's Creed.

Ocarina of Time's influences are a bit harder to spot since there haven't deluge of action-adventure games. It seems the industry fad went from platformers to shooters.

It would be hard to completely eliminate camping when you have teams in attacker and defender roles. On the player side, you would need a well-executed and well-coordinated team offensive to break a camper line. That's pretty hard, especially on the PC version where there is no easy and convenient VoIP solution. Good map design can help alleviate problems with campers. However, DICE isn't quite as good with map design as I would like.

Nintendo Ultra 64/Nintendo Reality
Nintendo Dolphin
Nintendo Revolution
Nintendo Cafe

Eh, other than Ultra 64 (from super to ultra!), the other names sound pretty goofy or haughty. Then again, that might be preferable to what we got in the end. Also, a lot of people like dolphins and cafes and revolutions.

The will of Yamauchi (or whoever at Nintendo thought that players will just play the demo instead of purchasing the full game) must still be strong in the company.

I don't think low-power and short-range mean what you think they do. I think it's more in line with what you'd expect in any sort of consumer device as opposed to, say, a radio tower.

Ah, that would make sense given the government source. A city-state's government would have a different view on the scale of electricity usage and communication range.

Well either way, you gotta wonder why so many revisions of the Dev kit?
Is that normal?

Also really want to know whats changed since V0 - V4W

Hmm, I'd imagine that the specifications are in a state of flux as Nintendo takes developer input and figures out what they want in the box. I don't know if having so many versions indicates anything good or bad. Perhaps Nintendo is figuring out what technical solution they want for video streaming to the tablet controller.

Low power and short range. Looks like Nintendo is making the Wii U run cool and the U-Tab to not have some sort of crazy range. Well, I guess this is to be expected given how the Gamecube and Wii turned out.

The amount of 3DS systems and Mario Kart 7 copies sold is just silly. I should have expected them to do well.

That's a big 83 percent dip for Skyward Sword. I guess that's to be expected.

Ah, Kirby's Return to Dreamland and PokePark 2 are climbing up in the charts.

It's a shame that there is a limit. But if you play through a demo 30 times, then you probably like what the game is showing you. My most played demo in recent memory is Just Cause 2's 30 minute demo and I don't think I played it more than 20 times.

I hope we'll be seeing such demos on other countries' eShops. Also, I hope there the demos will be available for the life time of the service.

Ah, 768 megabits of eDRAM sounds much more plausible than 768 megabytes.

While it would be cool if Nintendo made one of the first consumer products to use those new chip technologies, it just doesn't seem to fit their style.

It seems highly likely that it's just regular RAM rather embedded RAM.

Unless Nintendo and IBM has concocted some crazy embedded RAM solution.

Famitsu magazine publisher, Enterbrain, have an early report on one of last week’s major Japan releases: Mario Kart 7, released on December 1st. Enterbrain say that in its first week, Mario Kart 7 sold 451,932 copies in Japan.

It also gave Nintendo 3DS system sales a large boost. The 3DS sold 216,350 units during the same week. We’ll have more detailed numbers from Media-Create as per usual on Wednesday (note that they will likely differ slightly from Enterbrain’s).

"Nintendo Wii U Specs Leak to the Web"
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/nintendo_wii_u_specs_leak_web

Quote
On paper, the Wii U is not only on par with the Xbox 360 and PS3, but it's actually 50 percent more powerful, game industry analyst Arvind Bhatia from Sterne Agee told Wii U Daily. More recently, Wii U Daily claims to have spoken with another developer who was willing to go into specifics.

According to this unnamed developer, the Wii U will rock a quad-core 3GHz PowerPC-based processor built on a 45nm manufacturing process. It's similar to the one found in the Xbox 360, but updated and with an additional processing core. It will have 768MB of DRAM embedded with the CPU that will be shared between the CPU and GPU, and an unknown 40nm AMD-based graphics chip.

The source tells Wii U Daily that Nintendo's currently testing two versions of its next generation console, one with 768MB of RAM and one with 1GB. All of these specs could change, however, as the Wii U's release is still several months away.

For those who like looking at spec sheets.
EDIT: Er, rumors of spec sheets.

EDIT, EDIT: Ah, they have their own threads.

Ubi Soft preparing to rush the system at launch. That seems to be working out for them as some of their Kinect launch titles are getting sequels.

As for the game being an MMO, I wonder if that means the Wii U online structure is an open free-for-all. Ubi Soft probably plans to have a more substantial U-Play service if that is the case.

While it would be nice for Nintendo to have some sort of universal Wii U online identity and account service, I'm going to assume that is not going to happen. It can't be too hard for Nintendo make one, can it? I mean, Club Nintendo stuff must already have some of the work done.

Good news. I wonder what the delay was about. Maybe they couldn't print enough copies or had a snag in shipping.
