Ah, April 6th, 2012 it is!

The website is pretty neat. It has video and text describing the world, battle mechanics, and other systems. A treat for me is the character viewer that have voice samples for the English and Japanese voice acting. Both voice tracks sound really good; I'm torn as to which one I will play with first. It's probably going to be English since I enjoy the unexpected characterization taken with Riki. "Riki live to serve!"
It is a bit of a shame that the voice samples aren't normalized.

I have fond memories of playing Sonic: Triple Trouble. I wonder if it holds up today. Sounds like a good pick for 3DS Virtual Console.

Volition's not worth saving, but Nintendo (and Japan in general) has needed to expand out into Western Studios for some time now.  The age where the industry was dominated by Japanese tastes and sensibilities is over, and the major players will need more studios like Retro; Insomniac; Bungie; etc. to compete in this new market.  Nintendo may have even realized this if the rumors are true and Retro's looking at Zelda next.

Hey, a lot of people seem to really love Saint's Row The Third. It would be a shame for Volition to go away for some poor Red Faction games and whatever else.

As for Nintendo and western game studios, hasn't there been a generally fruitful history of Nintendo collaborating or contracting western developers (even outside of Rare and Retro)? I don't know if Nintendo needs to own studios in the Americas and Europe outright, but I hope they increase the amount of collaborations.

In one extreme you have Railworks which has a combine total of $1659.12 USD for all DLC and it's not going to stop at anytime soon.

To be fair, I don't think the developer intends every person person to buy all the trains and scenarios; only the ones they like. Then again, I don't know how a train enthusiast would approach Railworks.

Sounds like a move forward for the company. However, I have doubts that this is any indication that there will be US$1-3 games on the 3DS and Wii U.

Unless there are already some on the 3DS and Wii and I have just missed them. I haven't been keeping up with prices on the eShop.

I'm guessing however they look at their books, they would lose money if they went whole hog with online infrastructure. Beats me how that works out for them.

Just like they'll introduce HD when the "time is ripe"...which of course is also about 7 years too late.

Weren't HDTVs really expensive in 2005? I didn't get the Vizio I have in my house until 2008.

Funny how this got past QC for a portion of the units. Hope there is an Okami-Wii-esque way to fix it.

Actually, I don't think I ever got the replacement box art for Okami (Wii).

I do wonder what that effort could be. Maybe some sort of deal with the production of the carts? The obvious answer would be that Capcom felt they could no longer get away with the higher price.

Shame the studios didn't take advantage of the positive response to the animated movie a few years back with a sequel. Or maybe that's a blessing.

It would be interesting to see Rocksteady Studios make a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Has the studio been staffing up? This would be two projects in two years. Also, I assume the Wii U version of Batman: Arkham City is not a trivial task.

Having different names for different regions seems backwards in an ever-globalizing world. Then again, cars still do it and that's because some cars have weird names in different regions.

Whether you love or hate achievement/trophy systems, you can't deny their addictive power. It would be remiss of Nintendo to not at least have something basic similar to Steam achievements.

Nintendo has only mentioned SD cards for storage and that worries me a bit. I hope that is not a sign that USB hard drive support has been cut from the Wii U.

EDIT: Ah, I now notice the downloading may be only referencing the 3DS.

A change would be nice. As it has been said before, it is quite easy to confuse it for an accessory for the current Wii.

PC gamers are just killing themsleves.

In terms of dumb blockbuster games, yes. There is plenty of life in PC games of different scopes and scales. From small games like The Binding of Issac, to sprawling simulations like the X series and Railworks, and to smartly-produced big games like The Witcher 2, PC gaming is in a healthier state then some would think.

The Witcher 2 is a bad example to cite given recent news of that game in relation software piracy.

Have you see PC sales?  Very few titles sell well anymore (Starcraft/Diablo and some MMOs) and it's why you see more and more developers dropping PC support.

PC games sell well enough for some specialty developers to continue making games. If anything, support for PC versions of multiplatform games has grown in these past few years. It's just that there is much more money to be made on consoles due to the wider audience. However, if you have a crazy game where it's possible to have crazy fan base, it would be easiest to succeed on the PC.

The art style has been changed from the PSP release. The PSP game looks dark and crazy while the 3DS game looks so much brighter. I wonder if they kept or changed the voice acting and story.

Ah, the processing power rumors. It begins in earnest.

I don't quite know what a 20% gap will look, sound, feel, or play like for the next generation. If anything, I'm guessing this means that Microsoft and Nintendo are looking for a sub $300-350 price for the next boxes.

It sounds somewhat in line with extra batteries for laptops. Also, you have to factor that this is the price for the Japanese market.

A rival duel with a Spanish guitar playing in the background? I wonder if any one in Sakurai's team really likes Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War.

Nintendo Network is nice and simple. I got attached to my idea of Nintendo Online Service (NOS), but I don't think it would have worked all to well.
lets hope this heralds a move away from only supporting wifi on their home systems.
Ah, well there is always the USB Ethernet dongle that costs around 20 bucks. I used one until I got a new Wi-Fi router.

Ah, yes. The title is a silly thing. To be honest, I find the title of "Thirteen Two" refreshing in its honesty. "We made another one and it continues the story of a previous one," is what it says to me. Maybe it would've been better if Square Enix titled it differently but I think it's fine as it is. There's still Final Fantasy Versus 13 out there. The reasoning for that title is that it's supposed to run counter to how Final Fantasy 13 was designed and executed.

It's nice to see that Square Enix is still trying to fix/complete Final Fantasy 14. The sensible choice may be to cut the project, but I think it's good that Square Enix is still working on the game for those who have bought in to it.

As for Final Fantasy 13-2, why the sigh? Didn't Final Fantasy 10-2 provide interesting changes to the previous game's systems? From the previews, it looks like Final Fantasy 13-2 is trying different and interesting things from Final Fantasy 13. As long as Square Enix makes a fun game, there's no need to be sad, right?

I was wondering where Capcom would take Resident Evil 6 after Resident Evil 5. It looks like they decided to take it everywhere. It is inevitable that there will be a Wii U version of the game. It seems unlikely that said version will launch with the Wii U or on 11/20 for the Wii U, whichever is later. That is unless Capcom has had enough time with the Wii U and/or the Wii U easy to port to. Hmm, we shall see!

Oh, what?

As much deserved criticisms the Dynasty Warriors series has received over the years, I would've really liked to see a Pokemon version of it. The game would stick to the repetitive Warriors combat formula like Dynasty Warriors: Gundam and Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage, but it might have been fun to look at for while.

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Has No Plans to Fix Mario Kart 7 Glitch
« on: January 17, 2012, 04:41:27 AM »
So it seems that Nintendo didn't (currently) make it so you can force a patch on their 3DS games' multiplayer components. Oh dear.

Hopefully Nintendo gets up to speed on the possibilities and realities patching can offer. It would a shame for this spawning glitch to continue to ruin the track.

People are expecting the Vita's price to be cut so soon? I thought it was a shock at E3 2011 that Sony is offering the Vita at US$250 given the system's specifications and capabilities.

Look at Kirby Wii gain some holiday boost. Go, go!

The big drops for the PS Vita and Final Fantasy XIII-2 are good eye-openers for the morning.
