TOP 10 GAMES FOR FEBRUARY 2012
Title (Platforms) - Publisher
1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (X360, PS3, PC) - Activision
2. Final Fantasy XIII-2 (X360, PS3) - Square Enix
3. UFC Undisputed 3 (X360, PS3) - THQ
4. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (X360, PS3, PC) - Electronic Arts
5. Just Dance 3 (Wii, X360, PS3) - Ubisoft
6. NBA 2K12 (X360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii, PC) - Take-Two
7. Soulcalibur V (X360, PS3) - Namco Bandai
8. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (360, PS3, PC) - Bethesda Softworks
9. Twisted Metal (PS3) - Sony
10. Battlefield 3 (X360, PS3, PC) - EA

Looks like Final Fantasy 13-2 and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning fared well for their debut month. Also, Soul Calibur 5 and Twisted Metal (2012) managed to chart as well. UFC Undisputed 3 taking 3rd place is a bit of bright news for troubled THQ.

I have my doubts that the Aliens: Colonial Marines is from the Wii U version. It looks similar to the canned footage used in E3 2011.

I wouldn't worry too much over the art book. It will most likely be a forgettable little thing of a dozen or two pages. The art books I got with Demon's Souls and Fate/Extra amounted to that much (I still love them though). Speaking of Fate/Extra, pre-ordering it from GameStop netted me an exclusive booklet. The art book that is being packed in with Xenoblade Chronicles is most likely a GameStop exclusive as well. Though, it doesn't make sense since the whole game is practically a GameStop exclusive.

Ah, delicious middleware.

Correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't Super Smash Bros. Brawl use Havok stuff? I recall seeing the logo somewhere in Brawl's credits or titles.

Should we expect a Wii U eShop at launch? Or is that asking for too much?

This is great news. I wonder what Shin'en will release first for the platform. A shoot'em up? A racing game? A platforming game? Or maybe a puzzle game? You never know with these guys.

I always wanted an Assassin's Creed game set in feudal Japan during the Tokugawa Shougunate.

Tenchu games. Acquire and From Software has got you covered. That is unless you really want an open-world level structure.

As for the game, I won't be getting it on Wii U (yeah, I know. big surprise there).  There's no reason to.

There's no reason to period, unless you are a fan of repetitive, monotonous gameplay. I've only played the first game and I honestly don't understand what the appeal of it is. There's a few basic things you do in the game and then you repeat them dozens of times, and its all the same stuff. Doing that for the course of one game was enough for me.

The first game was half a tech demo and grand vision and half a "crap, we need to have a game".
Assassin's Creed 2 addresses all the issues you have with Assassin's Creed 1. The game hardly ever has you doing the same thing or mission twice or thrice. Assassin's Creed 2 takes all the wonder and promise the lead up to Assassin's Creed 1 had and makes a great game with it. Also, you stab dudes in the face!

That said, if you missed Assassin's Creed 1-Revelations I'm not sure 3 will be the best place to get onboard.  The Assassin's Creed story has gotten pretty needlessly stupid and convoluted by this point.  Hopefully since they're bringing in the Nintendo casuals and diehards with this game, Ubisoft will do a better job of making the story accessible than they've done so far.

It's only needlessly stupid and convoluted if you care about Desmond's story. If you just want to be a guy in a historical setting stabbing other people, then I think it wouldn't be too hard jumping in to Assassin's Creed 3 and ignore the future story line.

I sort of like the Desmond story from what I've played of AssCreed 1 and 2, but I can understand the people that do not care or abhor the particular story thread.

I just want to see one ultimate doom article for Sony. The industry just hates Nintendo with a passion.

They hate because they love and care so much! And Sony's financials aren't in good shape, at least from hearsay.
For better or for worse, people have a closer eye and heart on Nintendo, worrying or watching their every move. If Sony were to exit or become a third-party publisher, it would be the year's headline (at least in the video game world). If Nintendo were to do it, I can't imagine a world where it wouldn't be a historic inflection point.

The 3DS still selling well with the PS3 far behind it. Also, another week of the PSP selling more than the Vita.

TalkBack / Re: The Binding of Isaac 3DS Release Blocked
« on: February 29, 2012, 02:01:23 AM »
The REAL reason The Binding of Isaac isn't coming to the 3DS is because the game hasn't been reviewed by the ESRB because if it did, it would get an AO rating.  This is why Edmund McMillen is a lying asshat who's trying to pass the blame on Nintendo for why the game isn't coming when in reality it's completely his fault for creating an AO rated game which Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony all have policies against releasing on their consoles.

Plus it not exactly the religious themes that would get it an AO rating, it's the fact the game stars a young naked boy who fights enemies like aborted fetuses and giant vagina's, with some of his power up's involving killing himself.  I'm sorry but if you create a game that involves naked children killing themselves and fighting giant vagina's, it's going to get an instant AO rating no matter what religious themes it might have.

I had to check for myself on the game's Steam store page and was surprised to see that the game is unrated.

By the way, this comes in a year when Nintendo itself will publish games featuring both angels (Kid Icarus Uprising) and demons (Onii Training).

Oh, that's just Nintendo using familiar beings of various mythologies. The Binding of Issac's premise:
Quote
When Isaac’s mother starts hearing the voice of God demanding a sacrifice be made to prove her faith, Isaac escapes into the basement facing droves of deranged enemies, lost brothers and sisters, his fears, and eventually his mother.
is on a wholly different level.

Doesn't the Wii already have a channel that tells you the weather? I guess this would be a good thing for those who don't have their Wiis online enabled, though.

From my experience, the Wii's Weather Channel is pretty terrible, usually anywhere from a half hour to 2-3 hours out-of-date.

Hmm, I like using it get a 5-day forecast.

The Wii's questionable/poor third party support and droughts of interesting games probably made it hard for it to be a person's only video game console.

Not at all.  You just have to know what you want out of gaming.

Heh. In my case, I want high-fidelity racing, action, and role-playing games to play and those kinds of games didn't come to the Wii as often as I would like. Thankfully, I have a PC to play Burnout Paradise, Just Cause 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and other games.

That said, I wouldn't have all the hours of fun I had in The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces without the Wii.

yeah i'm one of those wii only gamers this generation (not counting ds) and use my PC to supplement my gaming, mostly to get my Valve fix.

Not counting the DS and PC is cheating! :p

I dunno.  Can you be a hard-core gamer and get by with only one system now?

If you get a 360, you miss out on PS3 titles like God of War, Uncharted, Metal Gear, Infamous, Gran Turismo... etc.

If you get a PS3, you miss out on Halo, Gears of War, Fable and the robust online multiplayer offered by XBox live.

Meanwhile, either way, you miss out on all the first party Nintendo games.

A truly hard-core gamer would *need* all three systems.

No mentions of the PC make me sad, but it's understandable. Also, I throw in XBLA and some weird PS3 games from Japan in to the mix.

With the PC, X360, and PS3, it is much easier to get away with having only one of them as you only set-down video gaming experience. The Wii's questionable/poor third party support and droughts of interesting games probably made it hard for it to be a person's only video game console.

2517
I don't know much about this game, but I found out that it has an online mode. That might raise my interest in this game depending on what it's like, but I can't find much information on it. Can someone point me in the direction of some kind of explanation?

This lovely website has impressions on the competitive and cooperative multiplayer.

Also Far Cry 3 looks like it's going to be my game of the year. People say Far Cry 2 was broken, which I can agree to, but that didn't stop me from playing damn near er'day for a month.

While there were questionable designs in Far Cry 2, I wouldn't say it was broken. The game is horrible to play if you follow the road and try to be a gung-ho gun man. The game is great if you treat it as a stealth and sniper game. For Far Cry 3, I hope the developers made it less of a pain to always play in a overly aggressive style while giving more tools and techniques for a sneaky style.

Aww, I was looking forward to Pokemon Gray.

Anyway, this version 2 seems like a baby step for the main line of series. I guess it's too early for the next generation Pokemon game to come out.

EDIT: Knee jerk reaction over.
It is too early to tell what to make of this game. The English subtitle of "Version 2" indicated to me that the game will be a great big content patch or expansion pack like the other third versions of Pokemon generations. However, the Japanese title is just a plain "2" which indicates a narrative or full sequel of Black & White or something in the ball park of Final Fantasy X-2 & XIII-2; that sounds quite exciting.

Well if that were true, then he should consistently project Nintendo to at least make money simply based on the trend they've carved for generations.

If anything, you are proving my point.

Mm. The thing is that Nintendo isn't one of the stocks that fall under his purview given that Nintendo isn't listed in the US stocks. That is probably why his guesses on Nintendo are often wrong. I guess what I really want to say is that you shouldn't take his negative guesses with Nintendo as a sign of malice against Nintendo.
