Super Mario Maker cares not for last weeks new releases (which weren't big-audience tickets to be fair). The Underwater Ray Ramano sequel debuted last week.

http://www.gameinformer.com/games/xenoblade_chronicles_x/b/wii_u/archive/2015/09/29/xenoblade-chronicles-x-feature-preview-game-informer.aspx

The Game Informer preview from issue #270.

Nothing much new that hasn't been covered by the Japanese PVs and news before hand. Still, a nice overview of the game.

1229
As I mentioned earlier in the thread, the Beta began on September 3rd.

Ah. If we're lucky, the game will fully release by March 2016!

Here's some hot beta action:

Featuring Unreal Engine Petey Piranha

Hmm, it looks as junky as I feared. Still, I want to try it. Might be fun enough to get a few loot drops. Hopefully Bandai Namco doesn't do something stupid with the microtransactions.

1230
The beta for Ace Combat: Infinity lasted for a week in February 2014. The game was later released on May 27th, 2014 for North America. Japan and Europe releases were also in May 2014. Typically, a beta is not far off from the full release of the game.

However, Ace Combat: Infinity had an early, Japan-only beta in December of 2013. For Lost Reavers, I don't recall a date announced for the Japan beta. We might be waiting until the late spring of 2016 to see Lost Reavers be released.

If the game doesn't get canceled by then, of course. Ah, I don't think the chances of that are all that high. It looks like Bandai Namco already has a bunch of game made already.

Zombie Panic in Wonderland of course. Though, I guess the 3DS version of that is better?

1234
Tharja amiibo imminent!

Actually, probably not if the development was started long before amiibo came in to being. Maybe there will be functionality for amiibo as single-battle boosters or session long perks?

Honestly, I didn't notice that beneath the broad strokes (shell carrying, wall jumps) that it was all the same underneath.

Hey, they are emulating the things! Just not all of it.

Where do I get the weird mushroom for to make Mario lanky?

Random from a Super Mushroom. I recall reading something about completing all stages in the 10 Mario Challenge lets you shake a Super Mushroom to transform it in to a Skinny Mushroom.

TalkBack / Re: Pokemon Shuffle Mobile Stacks the Deck
« on: September 26, 2015, 11:53:59 AM »
What Ishihara meant by the mobile game being tuned for adults is that it's paced to be played in short bursts multiple times a day for every day for many weeks or months. This is as opposed to the 3DS version where it is more likely to be played in one session per day at most.

Sad to read that the mobile version of Shuffle is so much more miserable.

I've never even heard of LINE. Must have sprung up overnight.

It's a Japanese instant messaging app that brings in money through selling stickers. If you see the Facebook Messenger having cute images in the chat log, LINE did it earlier.

The app is very popular in Japan and the rest of east Asia, I believe. It doesn't seem to have caught on elsewhere.

My other problem with Miku is that if it doesn’t live in the uncanny valley, it’s at least getting its mail there, as there’s something really unsettling about applying Mii styling to the vocaloid characters.

Unless something changed, the super-deformed style of the Project Mirai games are based on Good Smile's Nendoroid line of figurines. A line of figurines that popular for being cute and (relatively) affordable. ("Relatively" meaning $40 instead of $80+ for a bigger, more detailed statue.)

I was afraid of the Project Mirai games being lesser versions of the Project Diva games. Seems those fears have come true.

TalkBack / Re: Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer (3DS) Review
« on: September 22, 2015, 04:32:02 PM »
There's a 7.9 review on Paste Magazine that found the joy in the mundane work of being an interior decorator in the Animal Crossing world. From what I can infer, the reviewer wasn't bothered by the lack of direction, difficulty, or objectives.

Animal Crossing was always a series about what you put in to it rather than what the game gives you. Happy Home Designer seems to go further down that notion, except it's focus on decorating has led to a failure of covering the superficial and superfluous nature of Animal Crossing. The naked core of Animal Crossing has been laid bare by Happy Home Designer!

Ooo, I quite like the orchestrated version of the New Super Mario Bros. music.

It is a big misstep that Super Mario Maker isn't better integrated with even Nintendo's own social network. Nintendo not figuring out the internet well enough is an old hat, but it hurts more with this latest release.

Aside from my severe freezing issues, Super Mario Maker has been a pleasant time for me. I haven't tried any super hard stages, just the easier ones. It's really nice to play HD versions of these old sprites in user-created levels.

And, by a narrow margin, Splatoon has proved to be the artists' game. Oh well, got 5 snails from getting the third rank in Team Science.

Of curious interest, Splatoon got a mini-tournament Youtube stream out of TGS 2015.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sjHg4dqu50

The stream is over now. It is sponsored by Youtube and hosted on Nintendo Co. Ltd.'s channel. This further continues Nintendo's weird, sometimes messy relationship with Youtube.

Man, watching good players be savage with the Krak-On Roller is a scary sight.

« on: September 18, 2015, 04:04:58 AM »
Considering Nintendo's pretty much conceded the entire Holiday 2015 console season to Sony & Microsoft now, I wonder if management is feeling any differently about dropping the Wii U's price. Otherwise, I could see the November NPDs setting some new All Time Lows for them.

If they could drop the price, I think they would have done so already. Maybe the sad reality is that the current price is close to breaking even for Nintendo. Which... is an insane thought now that I think about it.

Also, I don't think Star Fox Zero was ever that big a draw. If the premise is that the game being delayed means that Nintendo conceded, then Nintendo conceded long before.
