I think Deadly Creatures has more polish overall but HOTD is better for a quick blast of fun.  Some of the 70s film style in the cutscenes is really making me grin (like the glaring continuity error in the scene before the first boss battle.)  And dammit - there's just nothing as fun as exploding zombie (I mean mutant) heads.  Except maybe slicing up hundreds of zombies -- time for more Onechanbara now.

I'm quite enjoying it as well.  My wife has been watching me play and she laughs at the dialog from the two human characters - some of it is quite amusing.  And the environments are quite astonishingly beautiful most of the time.  (Examples: crawling through a casket and around the bones of a desicated corpse - and coming upon a crashed motorcycle and lost cell phone... just some beautiful touches which re-inforce the scale and add color to the game at the same time.)

Some tips: If you get too much gore on your sword, it looses its effectiveness and gets stuck in the zombies. If you use the special move, it takes away part of your life. And there are no refills in the levels. You just have to make it to the end of each one.

I didn't notice any life drain on the special move.  Or are you talking about the slow drain resulting from going into rage mode?  But if you pause using the 2 button you can use any life orbs you've collected, so there IS a way to replentish life.

Oh, and my local Blockbuster has the X360 Onechanbara but not the Wii one.  Lame.

Sandra Bullock plays crab spider alien #4.

And you can hit her for MASSIVE DAMAGE!  (Or not)

It should come as no surprise that I've already pre-ordered it on Amazon.  Hope to see some of you online when it comes out!

I don't think this thread is stickied.  It is just a popular thread so it's always being bumped.  Like this. <bump>

Aw I can't make any of those dates, but I will be at Comicon playing conduit and Madworld!! :D
Oh, you poor, poor guy.

I have Thursday off and most games, so just decide amongst yourselves.  I'd really like to try some Rock Band 2 online though.

For any MST3K fans I submit that "Darth's not getting paid enough to run."

FWIF I enjoyed the Wii version of the game more than the PS3 version.  Something visceral about throwing people around with the nunchuck.  But those boss fights really pissed me off.  Strangely it's pretty much the same problem I had with the new Prince of Persia - repetitive but mostly fun bits staggering from one boss fight to another.

I'm most impressed with the legs that some titles have.  I mean, Mario Kart DS is on both the US and Japanese best seller charts more than a year after release!  I hope some of this rubs off on third party games too.

There's a one block file on the Wii called Rock Band DLC, but I think that's just a record of what I've purchased.  It's certainly not the data itself.  The data from the downloads is on the SD card, but cannot be accessed from the Wii memory management menu.  (Neither can pictures stored on the card for that matter.. gotta get myself a card reader for my Mac so I can see what all is on there.  Maybe put some songs on for Endless Ocean.)

You have to have 200 free blocks in your Wii - the tracks are automatically buffered into this space when loading from the SD card.  But no copying on your part is required - the game does it all for you.  (Indeed I had a look around using the Wii's memory management feature and the downloaded tracks don't appear either as Wii channels or as saved games.  As far as the Wii is concerned they don't seem to exist.

Nintendo Gaming / Rock Band 2 DLC is live!
« on: January 13, 2009, 10:31:16 PM »
Woohoo!  I've been checking every time I turn on Rock Band 2 to see if the DLC store was up yet.  And today, at long last, it was!  I only had 900 wii points in my account at the time so I could only grab four songs (They're 200 points each, so about $2.00 each) and I started downloading some of the 20 free tracks they offer.  I'm going to run out of room on my SD card in no time I can already tell.

The good news is that after downloading and archiving to the SD card I tried putting together a setlist of DLC only, and the load time was about 10 seconds between songs - about the same as when loading from the disk.  Quite impressive.

So now the only thing that sets RB2 on the Wii apart from the X360 and PS3 versions is the resolution of the graphics.. which frankly doesn't impact play in any way at all.  I am such a happy fellow right now!  I just have to master some of the tricky fingering in Buddy Holly.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: What have you pre-ordered for 2009?
« on: January 12, 2009, 08:47:24 PM »
That sounds insanely expensive.

You have no idea.  But at least I have more games at hand than any human could ever play.  (The dilemma is that I could probably play most of them if I were not employed, but then I couldn't afford to buy them!)

It was the same acre system on the DS.  My wife just layed out a grid on the floor with patterns and used that to plan things.  Worked a charm.

I pre-order most of my games with Amazon for the convenience.  I get so many games that I often forget what the release dates are, so it's simpler whenever I see a game I know I'm going to buy to just pre-order it and forget about it.  Then I get an e-mail from Amazon saying "the game you pre-ordered has been shipped" and it's like a little present to myself.  I almost never go out to the store to buy games any more.. it's just too far to go and I hate waiting in lines and such.  Sometimes I comb through the used games at Blockbuster when I'm there anyhow looking for older games that for some reason I never got the first time around.

So what games have you guys got on your wishlists for 2009?

I just put in a $250 Amazon pre-order:  Deadly Creatures, Mad World, Little King's Story, Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers, The House Of The Dead: Overkill, and Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop.

And come to think of it there are a few other games I want this year that I didn't order - such as the new Overlord game and Harvest Moon.  So many games!

2009: Year of the third party.  Confirmed.

by the way when you buy something doesn't that change your status ? so all those who bought Game and Watch collection mean your NO LONGER Platinum members since you need to have x amount of coins to Y status ? So if you got 900 points and you take away 800 for Mr. game and watch that means your no longer a platinum member ? or am i mistaken

You are mistaken.  I have 10 coins currently and am a platinum member.

Oh, and regarding earlier discussion of shipping: I ordered my Game & Watch collection the day that Club Nintendo NA went live - so about two weeks ago.  Of course I'm on the opposite coast, and the site DID crash completely shortly after I got e-mail confirmation of my order.  I got the confirmation e-mail on 12-19 and got the package on 1-3.  Oh, and there were two holidays in between that would slow mail delivery.

Sad, no one cares that my Wii broke on me and I can't play AC. :(

Some friends you guys are!

Aww.  I honestly don't know how I'd make it through a week without my Wii.. good luck to you.

Got my Game & Watch today.  Man, the hours I wasted back in the day playing the real original Donkey Kong Game & Watch are coming back to me now.  Nice to have it back on two screens the way it's supposed to be played (the GBA version was never able to really capture the full game.)  And it was FREE!  FREE!! Muhahaha!
