Dinosaur omelet hint:

Look up!  There's more than one dino in the level!

in other words:

The omelet comes from breaking the teradactyl egg.  Just go up and kill the teradactyl and break its egg.  Made me kick myself when I finally figured that out.[\spoiler]

For hatching the egg:

My wife just beat that one and was cursing up a storm until she figured it out.  If I could figure out spoiler tags here I'd give you a hint.

I LOVE this game.  Just playing around making fun things in sandbox mode mostly.. Have yout tried "Ceiling cat" yet?  This game is made of win..

I agree that 3:1 is dire news for Sony.  If the numbers are anything like we've seen from Japan in the past weeks then the PS3 has had essentially zero sales in the past two weeks (below PS2 even) so outselling the DS 3:1 this week would mean that if you average the last three weeks then the PS3 is only on par with the other consoles.  It doesn't help them make up all the lost ground they've got to cover.

Maybe the LCD shutter glasses they're demonstrating for HD 3D gaming will help?

Since we're making predictions for the next generation here's mine:

The next HD consoles will be aimed at 3D gaming using polarized glasses like the current 3D in the cinema.  Supposedly James Cameron's Avatar can already do this if you're running in 1080p using HDMI.  This will also be the selling point that finally gives Blu-Ray and advantage over standard DVD.

The next handhelds will also go 3D.  I've postulated that by putting two LED lights on the end of the stylus and detecting them with the built in camera on the DSi they could allow the player to "grip" and manipulate objects that appear to extend out of the screen at them.  Using a very finely lenticulated film they will be able to aim alternate columns of pixels to the left or right, providing a 3D view without the need for glasses.. as long as you look at the screen from straight on.  (So technically the DSi could do 3D with only small modifications right now!)

Sorry to keep derailing the thread.  I'm sure SalesBot will get us back on course quickly.

I have my pre-order in.  This, Rock Band Beatles and Scribblenaughts are my most anticipated games of next month.  Hurry up and arrive already, September!

I've not noticed any drift in the 1:1 of the sword play - just out of curiosity, have those who are experiencing drift gone into the options and turned off the Wii pointer calibration?  It's my understanding that when you point at the screen and hit A at the start of each round it re-calibrates then.

For M+ Zelda it wouldn't have to have you lay the remote down to zero out - the M+ golf just re-calibrates when you point the remote down and hit B.  Just have the game prompt Link to 'salute' his opponents or draw his sword by pointing the remote at the ceiling and then the screen.. that should provide enough data to fix the remote's position for the duration of a sword fight.

I think the only argument I've seen so far that makes me want a HD setup is that it can be made compatible with polarized 3-D glasses.  I recently bought the DVD special edition for Coraline, which I saw in the theater in polarized 3-D, and was disappointed with how awful the red/green 3-D effects and picture were.  I would seem that the game of the new James Cameon Avatar movie is in 3-D but only to those who are using HDMI cables for their setup.  If this becomes a trend in gaming then I can EASILY see myself investing in a HD television, and even making the leap to blu-ray (which I've seen as largely superfluous until now.)

Until then 1080i and 720p are fine for me.  (My Wii in the livingroom isn't even set to widescreen, it's hooked to an old CRT I bought off a friend about 12 years ago via composite cables!)

Okay: I buy almost everything.  Well, not the shevelware Wii party games and very rarely the movie tie-ins, but I do spend probably $500 a month on games at a minimum.  And I have been generally disappointed in the Wii lineup in terms of epic lengthy and engrossing games.  My favorite games I played in the last couple years were:

Fallout 3 (I'm still playing it about every day now.. just beat the Pitt DLC and am about to buy more.. it's a gift that keeps on giving and I haven't even completed the main game!)

Burnout Paradise (My favorite racing game of all time!  So easy to just jump in and play any time and so much to explore and discover.  I haven't bought the paid DLC yet, but I will probably do so soon.)

Mass Effect (A fairly short game, but with a grand and epic feel and some very good world building and writing behind it.)

Overlord (Hilarious and fun, some cool puzzles and again some great writing)

Assassin's Creed (A little repetitive as a game, but I simply LOVED exploring the vast cities and climbing all around.)

Bio Shock (Another quick game with stellar writing and world building.  It's System Shock with a new coat of paint, and I LOVED IT!)

All of those are on the 360

On the Wii I've mostly been playing:

Animal Crossing City Folk (A port of a DS game.  I play it about daily.)

Rock Band 2 (I'm not too good at it.. I've only just begun to use the orange button, but it's so much FUN!)

Tiger Woods '10.  (It's still too new to say if it has lasting power, but I do love playing a round of golf with the M+)

And Harvest Moon Rune Factory.. which clearly has the longevity.  Man does it have longevity.  If I could only afford one game per year I would want either Fallout 3 or Rune Factory Wii.

But over all it feels like my Wii games are for shorter bursts and lack a kind of epic grandness that the 360 games on my top list offer.  Not sure why that is.  Hopefully when we start getting some bigger JRPGs on the Wii that will help.  I'm very much looking forward to Chrystal Bearers, Dragon Quest 10 (I know, it's at least two or three years out) and Monster Hunter.

To use the copper axe on stupms charge up your special attack.  It will take six hits per stump to remove them.  Uses up a LOT of energy.

I still can't get rid of big stones yet.. and I'm almost up to winter now.

Hooray!  Finally got my copy of Wii Kendo in the mail from Amazon yesterday.  I understand there may be some other mini-games packed in on the disk as well if I ever get bored of sword play.  I'm having a lot of fun.

Ramen's a nutcase (worships Soup) but the only way to get children (which you need to get stuff from atop trees) is to marry folks at the church.  So it's well worth it.

I've beaten the first three bosses so far and have expanded my domain twice.  And I'm only beginning to feel like I'm getting the hang of the game.  For one thing I think my Pikmin instincts are holding me back sometimes.  I'm used to holding a button to call my minions back, but with LKS you have to just TAP the 'b' button to summon your guys back from battle.  (I lost a LOT of minions in the second battle because of this!)  The all public-domain classical music soundtrack is rather distracting to me.  The way the tracks loop on pieces I expect to continue into the next movement and the jarring leaps from, say, Beethoven's 9th to the Nutcracker Suite.. it's very strange.

I also am finding it striking how attached I get to the people in my village.  I HATE having them die in battle... I just need to be a better commander I guess.

Very polished game though.  Love the art style and the humor.  (maybe a little too much bloom in places.. but I guess that's the next-gen way of sprucing up a game.  Ever since Prince of Persia.)  It feels like a combination of Pikmin and Cannon Fodder.  I like.

Oh, and has anybody noticed the full color art on the disk?  When did Nintendo switch from only two-tone disk art production?

Whelp, it's a new year for Club Nintendo coins.  I gotta go through my collection and figure out what I haven't registered yet.  I'm up to 370 coins so far for 2010 platinum membership.. 230 to go.  I can probably do it on post play surveys alone.. but that's so time consuming.

Quick impressions after only completing the first two quests:

Graphics are simply astounding for the Wii.  They've got some really impressive shader tech going on here with all the grass in the outdoor environments.  I'm not seeing the silky-smooth 60 FPS I had been led to expect, but slight slowdown is hardly noticeable.  (I only have 10 minions in my horde so far.. I'm looking forward to seeing how many their engine can handle simultaneously.)

I'm having a lot of trouble "sweeping" my minions over things.  They have difficulty figuring out where it is I want them to go (even though the green "sweep" icon and blue target are pretty easy to manipulate using the Wii pointer) and often just clump up at the base of a ramp instead of streaming up it like I want them to.  And strangely when you "sweep" your horde across treasure, potions or lifeforce they don't seem to want to pick it up.  It's not until you release the B button and allow them some autonomy that they will gather anything up.  It's better technique to simply order them to attack something with B then to try and sweep them over it.

The new "throttling" move that makes use of the Wii's waggle seems tacked on.. but I'll bet I need it in some boss battles later on.  I'm reserving judgment to see how hard it is to execute in the heat of battle.

I'm enjoying the origin plotline and seeing where some of the characters from the first Overlord game came from.  The humor and sickness of the first game are intact, and I'm enjoying the ability to furnish my castle by accomplishing side-quests.  If you enjoyed Overlord then I think you'll enjoy Dark Legends.  And I'm looking forward to seeing what other new features they've added in here.  A worthy addition to the series.

I finally nailed my swing today.  In the end I had to turn up the sensitivity of the remote to improve my game.. strange that.  And my Tiger '10 swing is NOT a good golf swing.  For a perfect hit every time I have to separate my swing from my follow-through, so now I swing down hard, sort of jerk the remote where contact with the ball would be expected, then follow through as a separate movement.  Sort of like I'm throwing down, then after hitting the ball jerking back up.

I still have crappy stats because I haven't completed all the challenges, but now that I'm birdying every hole (and eagling the par fives) everything should come together pretty quickly.

I missed an 8 foot putt for eagle on a par five earlier though.. man was I kicking myself for that.
