I can understand what you are saying there. The characters and the story do kind of create a sense of pressure that you have to get to the next dungeon as soon as possible. You just have to realize though that even if you spent an entire real year just exploring the sea that the dungeons will still be there waiting for you just the same as if you went there immediately. Therefore there isn't really any pressure. It's really just an attempt to give a better story and part of that is trying to give a sense of urgency and impending doom if you don't do this now. That would be the case if you were really there. Also for most people it's kind of motivation for them to continue playing the game.

Nintendo Gaming / Question about how the second quest works.
« on: March 31, 2003, 08:29:51 PM »
This has been bugging me more and more the closer I get to finishing the game. When I beat the game will I automatically start the second quest or will it be more like Metroid Prime's hard mode in which I have to actually start a new save file in order to play the second quest? I would really hate to beat the game and find out that it starts me all over at the second quest automatically therefore losing all my hard work.

Again you have completely missed the point of Zelda. How can you say you don't like the exploration when exploration has been a crucial part of each and every game? Hell, exploration is what the series is about. You say that you have at least played the older games but I have to think it was a really short period of time that you played them in and that you didn't get very far. Since you hate the exploration in Wind Waker so much it completely makes sense that you couldn't beat The Legend of Zelda, Adventures of Link, and A Link to the Past. With Ocarina that damn fairy Navi tells you everywhere you are supposed to go so I can believe that you beat that. You probably used a some kind of guide for Majora's Mask and Link's Awakening though right?

Well I don't know if this is true or not but I've heard that when Miyamoto starts working on a new Zelda game he basically takes the last one that was released and slowly makes changes and modifications till you have a new game. If that's true it would explain why each game since A Link to the Past has had the same basic two part setup.

I have a feeling that PvtDaryl's first Zelda game was Ocarina and that he has never bothered to play any of the games released before that. If he had he wouldn't be complaining at all about Wind Waker. I think it's funny how just about all the supposed fans that came in when Ocarina was released bitch the most. They have this warped idea that Ocarina is the end all be all of the series when that is far from the truth. They just don't understand what the series is about and for some reason Ocarina always gives newbies to the series a very warped idea of what the series is about. The exception to that is when they actually bother to go back and play the older games.

Originally Nintendo was hoping the GC would have a 7 to 8 year life span but with the way this generation console war has gone their plans have apparently changed. Both Sony and Microsoft are dead set on releasing their next consoles around 2005 and Nintendo knows that if they let them get a head start this time then they are screwed. On the other hand I don't see why this would be the last year Nintendo focuses on the GameCube. 2005 is another good 2 years away and while Nintendo may have pretty much sent the N64 to an early grave to focus on the GC I don't think that will be the case this time. I feel that way mainly because even though the GC is struggling it's not nearly in as bad a place as the N64 was. I have to say it does suck that they are planning on releasing their next console so soon especially since early reports were that the GC would have a long life span. Hopefully it's true that they will continue to support the GC after they release their next console and hopefully they will make the next one backwards compatible with the GC.

Nintendo Gaming / New Zelda Gamecube game after Windwaker?
« on: March 31, 2003, 07:30:38 PM »
Yeah, doing Wind Waker with realistic style graphics would have been next to impossible. Probably the biggest thing is they wouldn't have been able to do the sea right. With the size of the sea in mind I just don't think they could have pulled it off with realistic graphics. Not to mention it would have really limited the game in a lot of other areas as well where the cartoony graphics free things up. Miyamoto even said that one of the reasons why he doesn't like doing super realistic games is because if you are trying to make everything realistic it really limits what you are able to do with the game. After playing Wind Waker I totally understand what he meant.

One thing I hope is that in the next game we return to a more land orientated setting. Don't get me wrong the sailing and sea is great in Wind Waker and is a nice break from what we usually get from a Zelda game but I can't even stand the idea that it could possibly be that way in the next game. I actually don't want the whole sailing thing totally thrown out because it's been on my Zelda wish list for a long time. Instead I would rather see like 4 or 5 large islands and maybe just a couple of small ones that would still equal the size of Wind Waker's overworld. That way while there would still be sailing the game wouldn't revolve around it like Wind Waker and instead you would spend most of your time on nice dry land. Oh, and for god sakes can we please have an actual forest in the next one. I took it from the very first video of Wind Waker that there would be actual forests with individual trees but that isn't the case. That's one of the few things I've been disappointed with Wind Waker.

Nintendo Gaming / Proper Chronology for Metroid / Samus?
« on: March 31, 2003, 06:29:10 PM »
Why do people have such a hard time with the Metroid storyline. We aren't talking about Zelda here. Hell, the entire damn storyline at the time was all laid out nice and neatly in Super Metroid.

This is the order they go in:

Metroid
Metroid Prime
Metroid II: The Return of Samus
Super Metroid (Metroid 3)
Metroid Fusion (Metroid 4)

If anyone would have bothered to scan the computers in Metroid Prime it would have been made clear to them that the game takes place directly after Metroid. Just reading the manual alone should have told you that much. It talks about what happened on Zebes during Metroid and how that follows directly into the events of Metroid Prime.

Also for those of you wondering if you watch the in game intro for Super Metroid it says, "1994-Nintendo-Presents-Metroid 3". That's why in the in game intro for Metroid Fusion it is called Metroid 4 since it is a direct sequel to Super Metroid (Metroid 3). They couldn't have called Metroid Fusion Metroid 5 since the games would have went from Metroid 3 to Metroid 5.

And BlkPaladin I hope that was a joke because you apparently don't know what you are talking about. There is no way Metroid Prime could have taken place between Metroid II and Super Metroid since those to games are direct sequels to each other and putting a game inbetween them would screw up the storyline majorly.

You know I think this is the first Zelda game in which the overworld stuff is just as fun as the dungeons. In most Zelda games the most exciting part for me is the dungeons and it's the thing I always want to get to. That hasn't been the case with Wind Waker. It's not that I don't like the dungeons it's just that the overworld and dungeons are equally great.

If we were allowed to make Wind Waker help topics then this section would become full of them. This would mean that any real non-help Zelda discussion would be impossible therefore defeating the purpose of the Zelda section.

Nintendo Gaming / New Zelda Gamecube game after Windwaker?
« on: March 30, 2003, 05:09:45 PM »
Well, a while back Miyamoto had commented that he wanted to start working on another GC Zelda this year. Unfortunately I can't remember where I read that but it was an actual quote. On the other hand though I don't think they have started on the next one just yet. A lot of smaller unreliable sites were saying that Miyamoto had confirmed that a new GC would be shown at this years E3 but that was simply a fan boyish distortion of what was said in the Feb. DICE interview. What the interview lead me to believe is that they have in fact not started on the game. It certainly didn't confirm that they had already started on the next one and that it would be shown at E3 anyway. Since they are now done with Wind Waker they will probably help Capcom finish up the new GBA Zelda and make sure it's ready for E3 and then start on the next GC Zelda.

My own prediction is that anyone who hopes the next Zelda will be realistic will more than likely be disappointed. I have a feeling they will do another Majora's Mask in that they will use the same graphics and engine from Wind Waker for the next game. If they do it like that I hope though that unlike Majora's Mask it's a full on Zelda game and not just a side quest deal thrown out there so there won't be as long of a wait between Zelda games.

One more thing, I think all the The Legend Forgotten stuff was actually referring to the GBA Zelda. The reason why I feel this way is that the site that reported it never actually said it was a GC game. Also just a week or two after that report Miyamoto confirmed that Capcom had been working on a new GBA Zelda since 2001 and that it would be shown at this years E3. Even if they were referring to a new GC game then that means they were just making it up. If they are right and the Legend Forgotten is the working title then I hope the game is supposed to fill in some of the gaps for the timeline. That title makes it seem like that will be the case anyway. I hope Capcom makes this new game more serious and much much better than the Ages games though. Something more a long the lines of A Link to the Past with improvements would be excellent.

If you are so worried about spoilers then why are you reading a thread where people are discussing the game. Maybe you should use your head and not read topics that discuss Wind Waker since they may contain spoilers. Oh, and cussing people out is against the rules so maybe you should be banned.

General Chat / New Metallica Album: St. Anger *UPDATE*
« on: March 27, 2003, 07:47:41 PM »
I just found out some really cool news. Metallica will be including a DVD with St. Anger showing the band playing all the songs on St. Anger live in the studio. But that's not even the best part. The best part is that the DVD will be FREE. It will come FREE with the regular priced CD. Freaking cool. Click here to read the official article about it from www.metallica.com. Now just try and say that Metallica are a bunch of greedy ass holes.

Nintendo Gaming / Zelda - Game Boy Player
« on: March 27, 2003, 05:32:00 PM »
It would probably only work if you hooked the GC with the GB Player up to another GC. Oh, and you would also have to have two TVs as well. The GB Player isn't supposed to replace the GBA. It just allows you to play the games on the TV.

Nintendo Gaming / Green... or Red? Both it seems.
« on: March 27, 2003, 05:28:56 PM »
The early carts have the red blood. This includes both gold and gray carts since a lot of people mistakenly think the red blood is limited to the gold carts. At some point Nintendo decided to censor it. The game was rated E so it wasn't like censoring it was inappropriate. I mean as far as I know games that are rated E aren't supposed to have any blood.

Nintendo Gaming / Zelda Lives Up to Hype and More...

Best damn Zelda game in my opinion. Yes, I have played and beaten every game except Four Swords so that is a valid opinion. I finished playing the first dungeon and was like "holy sh!t. that was just the first dungeon!!!!!". It completely blew any of Ocarina of Time's dungeons out of the water. Very similar to A Link to the Past's dungeons in style only far far better. I loved the fact that you really had to think about what you were doing in each room. You don't have a god damn fairy screaming at you and telling you step by step how to do everything. It was really nice to walk into a room and actually be able to say to myself, "how the hell do I get out of here". It was really nice and big too. Not to mention it took me a quite a while to get through it. I didn't really have any serious problem with it but there were a few times I was scratching my head. Something I don't really understand is why so many people are saying this game is too easy. To me the first dungeon was pretty damn challenging and that was just the first dungeon.

The whole game is just freaking great though. This game was really under hyped in my opinion. I can't believe all the wonderful little details with the characters, the world, and the enemies. The dialog is so much better compared to the card board cutout crap that was in Ocarina. The animation is wonderful too. People don't just stand there like brain dead vegetables. They actually move around like a real person would. And people were bitching about how this game wouldn't be realistic? I really feel sorry for people that are so hung up about the wonderful graphics that they refuse to play it. Hell, I take that back. If you refuse to play this game because you are to immature to appreciate the toon shading then you don't deserve to play it.

668
Now if you already know about this don't act like I'm stupid because I've known about it myself for years now. I just figured it would make an interesting topic. Hopefully.

To get to the point in AoL there is an area known as Death Mountain Area. If you go to the most southern part of this area you'll find something interesting. You should notice that there are three bodies of water, a graveyard, two rocks near the bottom of Death Mountain, and of course Death Mountain is to the north of this little area. Well this area bears a striking resemblance to LoZ's over world when you take into account the smaller size and the 8 bit graphics. Basically all of those land marks that I mentioned above are in the exact same position that they are in LoZ's over world. Something else that is interesting is that of those two rocks when you hit the one on the right with the hammer it will be destroyed allowing you to enter into a complicated maze. The interesting part is that in LoZ Spectacle Rock, specifically the right most rock, is the entrance to Ganon's dungeon. This leads me to believe that the small area south of Death Mountain in AoL is the same over world that is in LoZ.

If you want to look at maps for comparison click here and then click on the 5th pic towards the bottom. Then click here and go to the bottom of the page. You should see a link to the right that says Overworld Map. Click on it to see LoZ's over world map.

Nintendo Gaming / EB gettin Nintendo friendly
« on: March 25, 2003, 06:33:26 PM »
Nintendo is more than likely paying them to do that since I've heard other stores are doing the exact same thing. It's nice to see that someone other than Micro$oft is throwing money around. It also shows that Nintendo is maybe realizing that "advertising isn't necessary" doesn't work.

670
I guess it wasn't really nintendojo's fault then. Well, actually it is since they should have gotten off their ass and checked it out for them selfs before posting it on their front page and scaring the hell out of everyone. Any way after looking at MrShag's pic I had a feeling the problem was with third party stuff.

Nintendo Gaming / GBA SP recharger/ Power supply
« on: March 25, 2003, 09:13:44 AM »
Well according to this thread the charger shuts off after it has recharged the battery and therefore can be plugged in continously without problem. On the same note though I doubt very much the charger can be used as an alternative power source.

Well I was just curious if this were true or not. Nintendojo.com has a story up about it. Click here to read it. Basically the problem is is that the link cable supposedly sets on top of the shoulder buttons on the SP. So what's the deal?
